Chapter 1431: General Baburu

Zhang Yi and Lancelot decided to split up and continue searching for the real exit.

If they weren’t mistaken, only the giant door behind Baburu led to the topmost level of the Holy Spirit Hall.

Although Lancelot was annoyed that Zhang Yi had taken Bors, there was nothing he could do about it for now.

So the two parted ways, each choosing a direction, and resumed exploring the path out.

……

Ten minutes earlier.

Gao Changkong, accompanied by Gu Man and Chen Xiaozheng, stood once more at the entrance to the Holy Spirit Hall’s main doorway.

General Baburu’s huge frame sat upon the chair, and when he saw the three of them, he gave a startled, questioning sound.

“Huh? You found the exit so quickly?”

This was odd.

Ordinary people might not sense the Hall’s shifting orientation, but in truth it was controlled by General Baburu and changed periodically.

Any Tri-Eyed Clan member who wandered inside would get lost, let alone humans who were much smaller in build; being trapped made finding the way out even harder.

Yet these people had returned to Baburu’s presence in only a matter of minutes.

It was almost as if they hadn’t been limited by his Void Exile at all.

“Looks like one of you possesses a special ability that helped you find the right path.”

General Baburu said faintly.

Gao Changkong did not understand the general’s words, but looking at Baburu still seated on the throne now, he sighed helplessly.

“Looks like they won’t be getting past this place in the short term.”

He raised his head, and his gaze suddenly sharpened to a deadly edge.

“But I must get through as fast as possible!”

Reincarnation Deduction had shown him a sliver of the future.

If he couldn’t deal with Baburu quickly and reach the upper levels of the Holy Spirit Hall, they would soon face tremendous danger.

They could all die here!

But if he succeeded, he might obtain a huge opportunity!

“Prepare to fight!”

Gao Changkong swept his robe, and behind him the Heavenly Dance Treasure Wheel slowly materialized.

The enormous wheel formed from broken rune-stone fragments, each rune like a star, shining with golden light.

“Solar Wheel Seal!”

A Golden Holy Sword appeared in Gao Changkong’s right hand.

“Immovable Wisdom King Seal!”

Golden armor covered his body, making him look like a god or a Buddha.

Gu Man and Chen Xiaozheng silently took a few steps back, positioning themselves to his left and right rear.

Seeing this, General Baburu finally rose slowly from the throne.

He gripped the giant battle-axe beside the throne; heavy armor concealed his features completely.

Through the gaps of his Horned Helmet, only a pair of domineering eyes could be seen.

They did not share a common language, so no extra words were necessary.

Gao Changkong, sword in hand, crouched low and launched himself like lightning at Baburu!

Without a word, Baburu tightened his grip on the axe and charged like a bolt of thunder, the battle-axe swinging down!

Clang!

The Golden Holy Sword slammed into the axe, and the palace trembled as monstrous waves of energy rippled outward!

The two collided and recoiled at once, their strengths evenly matched!

In Gao Changkong’s mind: just as I deduced, his power is within my range to counter, which is strange. As the Hall’s gatekeeper he should be one of the most powerful generals. Why does his pressure feel inadequate—less than the Centaur I fought earlier?

Reincarnation Deduction could reveal a sliver of the future, but it was only inferred from current conditions, not an absolute prediction.

It also provided partial insight into an opponent’s abilities.

In Gao Changkong’s prevision, he had seen his fierce clash with General Baburu.

That was why he left Gu Man and Chen Xiaozheng to screen the rear.

Baburu attacked swiftly, cold and relentless like a war machine, swinging his axe without mercy to assault Gao Changkong.

Gao Changkong narrowed his eyes. “Keep probing! As long as we get enough intel about him, the future deductions become more accurate and closer to reality!”

The two fought fiercely.

Gao Changkong’s swordsmanship was outstanding; as a former super sports star he possessed an inherently powerful physique, and applying that gift to combat felt completely natural.

The axe and the Golden Holy Sword battered each other mercilessly.

Gao Changkong stayed constantly wary of Baburu’s power.

He knew Baburu was a spatial-type superhuman.

But how exactly would he attack?

He couldn’t possibly rely only on brute strength to clash head-on with me, could he?

Gao Changkong thought inwardly.

At the same time, Gu Man and Chen Xiaozheng, who seemed to be screening the rear, were not idle at all.

Normally, an Epsilon-level battle should exclude any Delta-or-below superhumans.

Only possession-type support like Bors or Agravain could take part, or a host like Zhang Yi who could use space power to shield fellow superhumans.

Outside those two cases, any other superhuman on the battlefield, no matter how capable, risked being eliminated first.

But Gao Changkong could simulate parts of the future, so he judged that the two staying behind would help.

His frontal collision with Baburu looked dangerous, but in the short term neither side could truly overpower the other.

That provided an opening for the two to deploy their abilities.

Gu Man took a half step back, casting a glance toward the corridor outside.

If Tri-Eyed reinforcements burst in now, she could seal the entire entrance corridor, preventing anyone from disturbing the fight here.

Chen Xiaozheng kept his eyes fixed unblinking on General Baburu, a strange light flickering in his pupils.

Chen Xiaozheng, currently codenamed Mutable Heaven by the military, ability codename Chameleon.

Superhuman ability index: 9,500 points.

His power allowed him to mimic any object he’d seen.

When the mimic target was a superhuman, he could perfectly replicate the target’s abilities and manifest seventy percent of their characteristics.

As for the power scale, that depended on Chen Xiaozheng’s own ability strength.

In other words, as soon as Baburu exposed his power, Chen Xiaozheng could analyze it immediately.

Gao Changkong and Baburu were locked in fierce combat.

To force Baburu to use his ability, Gao Changkong had thrown caution to the wind.

Yet this Grand General of Nasha fought like a robot, using the combat style of a reinforcement-type superhuman, meeting Gao Changkong’s attacks with his axe.

Still, Gao Changkong gained no advantage.

Baburu fought with effortless mastery: enormous body and heavy axe, yet moving with the nimbleness of a dancing dragon.

“This guy... could he be stalling for time?”

A chill sank into Gao Changkong’s heart as he began to suspect the truth.

From the start, Baburu’s objective was not to kill them, but to hold them back.
