Chapter 1420: Earthquake |
The battle between Old You and Galahad was exceptionally brutal. This kind of close-quarters combat was the easiest to get injured in.
Old You’s superhuman ability index was far lower than Galahad’s, but with his advanced exoskeleton mech and weaponry, he could still put up a fight against Galahad.
Weapons clashed violently, and two grown men, relying on brute force and an unyielding will, charged at each other again and again!
The sound of metal colliding, the thud of bodies being sent flying and smashing into walls, echoed through the room and spilled out into the outside world.
Zhang Yi had been searching for the locations of his other companions. Because of the Barrier Stones, he couldn’t quickly teleport through the Holy Spirit Hall, but his speed was still far from slow.
Before long, his Smart System picked up the commotion.
“Someone’s fighting. Let’s check it out!”
Without a second thought, Zhang Yi teleported straight toward the dining hall.
By the time he arrived at the battlefield, he saw that the entire room had been torn apart into an utter mess.
Even when Zhang Yi appeared, Galahad’s face showed no hint of fear.
He simply muttered under his breath, “Damn it, what rotten luck!”
His luck was terrible. The one who got here first was the enemy’s captain, and Galahad had already accepted in his heart that he was done for.
Old You pointed upward. Stuck in the wall was a dinner knife, the Divine Source on it radiating a gentle glow that only superhumans could see.
“Zhang Yi, the Divine Source is right there!”
Zhang Yi glanced at Galahad, then raised his right hand.
A Dimensional Gate opened, and the dinner knife was instantly absorbed into Zhang Yi’s Dimensional Space.
Another fragment of the Divine Source was secured. Combined with the one obtained from the Nine-Story Demon Tower in the Demon Kingdom, Zhang Yi now had roughly enough Divine Source in hand to elevate one superhuman to Epsilon rank.
Facing Galahad, the thought of killing him flashed through Zhang Yi’s mind. But after a moment of consideration, he decided to spare the man’s life.
If he killed Galahad here, wouldn’t the Knights of the Round Table do the same to his captured companions?
So, it was best to keep him as a bargaining chip. If something went wrong, there could be a trade.
“Be a good prisoner and you can keep your life.”
The proud Golden Lion glared wide-eyed, but he wasn’t foolish enough to ignore his current situation. He had no choice but to say, “I should have checked my horoscope with a fortune-telling app today! Damn it, if you had come just a little later, I would have won!”
Old You spat out a mouthful of blood-flecked saliva. “Stop bragging! If our boss had been a moment later, the one dying would have been you!”
Zhang Yi fastened an Explosive Collar onto Galahad, then led them out of the dining hall.
“We need to find the others as quickly as possible. Being scattered like this is too dangerous.”
Just as Zhang Yi was leading them out of the dining hall doors—
From somewhere high above in the Holy Spirit Hall, a deep, muffled roar suddenly erupted.
“Boom!!!”
Zhang Yi and the other two felt the ground shake violently beneath them, as if an earthquake had struck. Decorations on the corridor walls clattered to the floor in a heap.
For some reason, Zhang Yi’s instincts gave him a chill, a sense of dread.
It felt as if some kind of monster was slowly awakening.
Zhang Yi’s heart sank, and his gaze sharpened instantly.
“Is the thing I’ve been wary of finally about to show itself?”
After experiencing several trips to underground secret realms, Zhang Yi had long since developed a deep reverence for these mysterious places. He wouldn’t take risks, let alone gamble with his own life or his companions’.
The reason he dared to come here was because he had prepared himself mentally.
But now, facing the real thing, it was impossible to say he felt no tension.
He tightened his grip on the weapon in his palm, feeling a little more grounded. Nothing was more reassuring than the power you controlled yourself.
“Let’s go. Pick up the pace!”
Zhang Yi tossed Galahad directly into the Shadow Space, then led Old You as they swiftly raced away into the distance.
…
The entire Holy Spirit Hall was shaking. Everyone felt the change at the same time.
Including Fatty Xu, Agravain, and the Grand Scholar, who were in the royal library exchanging knowledge about their cultures.
“Is this an earthquake?”
Fatty Xu asked, a hint of worry in his voice.
“Looks like we need to get out of here fast?”
The Grand Scholar furrowed his brow at this. “Impossible! According to my calculations, the next earthquake in Nasha shouldn’t come until seven years and eighty-two days from now. This is not an earthquake. It’s some other kind of change.”
Even as he spoke, the bookshelves around them began to topple from the violent tremors.
The Grand Scholar’s body was enormous, and coupled with his age, he was nearly crushed under a falling bookshelf.
Having chatted with the Grand Scholar for a while, Fatty Xu had already developed a fondness for this old Tri-Eyed man so devoted to learning. He quickly maneuvered his mech over to support the scholar’s body.
“Old sir, this place seems very unsafe. We should leave immediately!”
But the Grand Scholar suddenly said, “Wait! There’s something I need to take with me!”
He struggled to steady himself, then turned and rushed toward a desk, pulling a huge notebook from under a pile of books and clutching it tightly to his chest.
Then, with Fatty Xu’s help, he and Agravain left the enormous library together.
As they were leaving, Agravain glanced back at the library behind her, feeling a pang of regret.
But these books were far too heavy and large for her to carry away.
The moment the three of them stepped out of the library, a whole row of bookshelves crashed down behind them with a thunderous noise.
The Grand Scholar smiled at Fatty Xu and Agravain. “Don’t worry. I can get you out of here safely. You’ll be fine.”
“If I get the chance, I’d like to go with you and see the world up above.”
Fatty Xu sighed.
“You might want to think again. There’s nothing worth seeing up there.”
A world completely buried in snow and ice, with all life cut off. What was there to see?
Comparatively, this place was very peaceful.
But thinking about it, Fatty Xu’s heart grew complicated.
Their arrival had completely shattered the peace here, and it might even end up destroying this underground kingdom that had lasted for endless ages.
The Grand Scholar chuckled, jogging forward as he spoke. “But from what you’ve told me, it sounds like a world that respects knowledge and culture. That alone is enough to make me yearn for it!”
“Our race is far too obsessed with violence! Our civilization has suffered multiple breaks in continuity, and so much of our ancient culture has been lost. Even I can only find fragments and scattered words in the damaged ancient texts.”
