Chapter 167: Satan, Localized Version |
Jiang Linyuan followed Shen Wanyu all the way until they stopped at a courtyard gate.
The red lacquered doors had couplets posted on both sides, and the vermillion eaves were carved with auspicious dragon and phoenix patterns.
Standing in front of the house was a girl holding a gift box, her face full of hesitation, unsure whether to enter or not.
“Department Head has a guest?”
Jiang Linyuan glanced at the girl.
[Target: Zhao Qiulu, Bad Woman Level: B]
When Shen Wanyu saw that girl, her brow furrowed.
Su Muzhi stared at her for a long time before saying, “Haven’t I seen this person somewhere before?”
“She was your high school classmate. You probably don’t remember many of them.”
Zhao Qiulu heard the voice, turned around, looked at Shen Wanyu, and a faint smile appeared on her face. “Uncle asked me to come see you. He thought it was a bit lonely, just you and Guoguo in this courtyard during the New Year.”
“Busybody. You can leave now.”
“Mm. Then I’ll just leave the things at your door.”
Zhao Qiulu seemed used to this kind of treatment from her. She put down the gift box and prepared to leave.
But as soon as she lifted her head, she saw Su Muzhi and Jiang Linyuan standing to the side.
“Ah, so you do have guests.”
Her voice was very soft. Her gaze first landed on Su Muzhi, lingering for a long time, before slowly shifting to Jiang Linyuan.
“What are you looking at?”
Su Muzhi smiled and stepped in front of Jiang Linyuan, blocking him.
“Is this Miss Su’s boyfriend? What a perfect match. Congratulations.”
Zhao Qiulu smiled very politely.
“What’s your name?”
Su Muzhi asked.
“Haha, it’s been too long since we last talked. It’s only natural Miss Su doesn’t remember me.”
Zhao Qiulu first lowered her head, then lifted it again, letting out a light laugh as she met Su Muzhi’s gaze. “Zhao Qiulu. In high school, I was even the class monitor.”
Su Muzhi thought about it. She did seem to remember someone like that from high school.
“Then I won’t disturb you any longer. I’ll be going now. See you next time.”
Zhao Qiulu waved at them and left.
Shen Wanyu didn’t even glance at the gift box left at the door. She went straight inside, and Jiang Linyuan and Su Muzhi followed.
“Wanyu-jie? You’re back?”
As soon as they crossed the courtyard, Shen Guoguo’s noisy voice rang out.
“Is Brother Jiang here too?”
She happily ran out of the house and spotted Jiang Linyuan.
But the smile on her face didn’t last long before it faded, because she saw Su Muzhi holding Jiang Linyuan’s hand.
Why is there another person here! What the hell is Wanyu-jie doing!?
You’ve completely messed up my plan!
“Guoguo, weren’t you going to give me a red envelope? Where is it?”
Jiang Linyuan greeted her with a smile.
Shen Guoguo stared at Su Muzhi, who was casually looking around, then yanked Jiang Linyuan to the side and whispered, “Lick Dog Jiang! Are you stupid? Why did you bring that bad woman to see Wanyu-jie?”
I’m not stupid at all.
Jiang Linyuan said, “Friends coming together to pay New Year’s visits—the more people, the more lively it is.”
“Are you brain-dead or what!”
Shen Guoguo furrowed her little brows.
Rude! Deserving of punishment!
Jiang Linyuan smacked the back of her head. “What do you know!”
“You kissed her at the dance last time, and now you bring her here today. Wanyu-jie is definitely going to be unhappy!”
Shen Guoguo said angrily.
“So we need to make the Department Head happy. Guoguo, you have to help me. You don’t want to see the Department Head with a long face either, do you?”
Jiang Linyuan said.
Ugh, this guy is infuriating!
Shen Guoguo glared at him, attacking with both hands and feet—a Little Potato assault.
“What are you two doing?”
Shen Wanyu watched Shen Guoguo and Jiang Linyuan fooling around and covered her forehead with a sigh.
“I’m punishing Lick Dog Jiang for you, Wanyu-jie!”
Shen Guoguo said.
Su Muzhi looked over and walked up to Shen Guoguo. “Lick Dog Jiang? Is that something you can say? Your sister has no manners? And you don’t either?”
She bent down, placed her hand on Shen Guoguo’s head, gently patted it, and squinted with a smile.
Shen Guoguo didn’t dare move.
This bad woman is kinda scary, but how dare she talk bad about Wanyu-jie!
“Wanyu-jie isn’t rude! She’s way more polite than you! You’re an uninvited bad guest!”
She mustered up her courage and said.
Su Muzhi smacked Shen Guoguo’s head.
Ow!
“Since when do you bully children too?”
Shen Wanyu knocked Su Muzhi’s hand away and looked at her coldly.
“The weak are meant to be humiliated by the strong. Not just your little sister, Shen Wanyu—you too.”
Su Muzhi straightened up and looked at Shen Wanyu with a smile.
“Then when you’re humiliated, don’t complain either.”
Shen Wanyu said coldly.
Su Muzhi chuckled softly and was about to speak again when Jiang Linyuan quickly interrupted them.
He had figured it out by now—these two would start fighting over any topic.
“Let’s go inside. Let’s go inside. I’m freezing to death.”
As he spoke, he pulled Shen Guoguo into the house.
Shen Wanyu and Su Muzhi exchanged a glance, then looked away from each other and went inside.
“Department Head, Department Head, that Zhao Qiulu seems pretty close to you. She even came to give you a gift.”
As soon as they entered, Jiang Linyuan quickly changed the subject.
He wanted to avoid them bickering again.
“We’re not close, but her father works under Shen Pingyan.”
Shen Wanyu said as she poured tea for Jiang Linyuan.
Ohhh, so she’s a subordinate’s daughter.
“Then, Department Head, this courtyard of yours is so big, but it’s just you and Guoguo? No one else?”
Jiang Linyuan asked again.
“This place is usually where Mom and I stay during the New Year. Normally, no one’s here.”
“Heh, yeah. It gets quieter every year.”
Su Muzhi laughed coldly.
Shen Wanyu put the teapot back, glanced at her, and didn’t pour her any tea.
“Xiao Su has been here before?”
Jiang Linyuan took a sip of tea. His palate was rough—he couldn’t really appreciate it; he just thought it was a bit bitter.
“That was a long time ago.”
Su Muzhi said lightly.
“Ah, doesn’t matter. Today, we’re picking up where we left off, aren’t we?”
Jiang Linyuan grinned, picked up the teapot, and poured a cup for Su Muzhi. “Xiao Su, have some tea. Have some tea.”
“Heh, so the guest has to pour tea for me? Some people really don’t understand basic etiquette.”
Su Muzhi glanced at Shen Wanyu, who remained unmoved, picked up the teacup, and took a sip. “Bitter as hell. Not good.”
Shen Wanyu lifted her eyes and said flatly, “If it’s not good, you don’t have to drink it.”
Exactly!
Shen Guoguo nodded emphatically, pulled Jiang Linyuan aside, and whispered, “Brother Jiang, let me tell you—tomorrow there’s a lantern festival at the Forbidden City. You and Wanyu-jie need to seize this opportunity!”
You too, Xiao Su? Why does everyone love lantern festivals?
“Let me tell you, this lantern festival is super fun! Everyone can wear ancient costumes and cosplay!”
“Oh, so can I cosplay as Satan?”
“What Satan? This is a traditional festival! People wear ancient-style costumes!”
Shen Guoguo bumped Jiang Linyuan in dissatisfaction, then whispered again, “I’ve already booked a makeup artist and a costume boutique for you and Wanyu-jie!”
“Then can I cosplay as a localized version of Satan?”
“Ugh, why are you always thinking about Satan! Why do you want to play such an evil thing?”
Shen Guoguo said irritably, then muttered quietly, “And what the heck is a localized Satan? The King of Hell?”
“The Great Yin Emperor of the Underworld.”
Jiang Linyuan said.
Yin Emperor for short!
Satan is actually pretty lewd, because he is the Yin Emperor!
