Chapter 920: 916

Ved had muscle memory, so when he was attacked, he could roll to the side to reduce the damage. Didn't Bi Fang have that too?

Of course, he did!

Not only did Bi Fang have it, but his neural responses were faster and stronger. He could even avoid the injury before it arrived by relying on his "Beastly Instinct"!

Ved's right shoulder had sustained a heavy blow, and he could not lift it to exert force, but he was still able to shoot with his left hand.

As an excellent special forces soldier, being able to shoot with both hands, maintaining the same high accuracy, was a very basic skill requirement.

However, just as he drew his gun and his index finger had not yet pressed the trigger, Ved suddenly realized that the target in front of him had disappeared.

How could that be?!

Ved's pupils shrank to the size of pinpoints, and his heart was beating violently.

No, not gone. It was too fast!

Ved's eyes rolled, and he managed to capture the target again, only to find that the other party had already jumped to the periphery of his vision, avoiding his focused discernment area.

The human field of vision exceeds 120 degrees, but only about 15 degrees in the center of the image projected on the retina can be clearly discerned.

Beyond this discernible field up to 30 degrees remains an effective field where one can immediately perceive the presence and movements of objects, but the discernment decreases.

Beyond both the discernible and effective fields, what remains is called the sidelong glance field, commonly known as peripheral vision. Within this range, one can only sense the presence of objects or movements but can no longer clearly discern what they are.

Also, the shape of the human field of vision is elliptical at the outermost part, but the sharply imaged part is more like a rectangle. Hence, the aspect ratio of televisions is never one-to-one, but either four-to-three or sixteen-to-nine.

The trees on the grassland weren't dense, and occasionally a forest would appear that could not block the sunlight as densely as a rainforest does.

The midday sunlight penetrated through the tree branches, forming numerous central light pillars, where varying brightness sensitively intertwined, making the motion and shadows infinitely ambiguous.

In an open space, it's fundamentally impossible to jump completely out of someone's field of vision, but it's not hard to avoid the effective area.

Using a camouflage highly similar to the environment and the misalignment of light and shadows, Bi Fang made a powerful burst and quickly leapt out of Ved's rectangular field of vision, avoiding being targeted.

Focus.

The uncompromising pursuit of hunting targets.

It is the most basic conduct of a hunter.

When a hunter loses his target and focus, the outcome is predictable.

Seizing the brief moment when the enemy lost sight of the target, Bi Fang launched a second attack, greeting the opponent with another powerful throw of his short spear.

Ved, coming back to his senses, turned his head to try to relock onto the target, but by the time he recognized the movement, it was too late. He wanted to dodge, but he simply couldn't.

An intense pain surged from his lower limb. Ved dared not look down, fearing to lose sight of the target again.

He guessed his thigh had been completely nailed to the tree. Maybe even the artery was severed? Otherwise, why would he feel so cold?

It felt like all the warm blood had drained from his body.

Ved was tall, but he wasn't clumsy. Yet in front of this guy, who seemed to come out of nowhere, he felt like a dumb ox spinning around by a leopard.

Everyone was stunned—Bi Fang's fans, Old Barry from the protection center, Andria, and even Grace and others on the same grassland.

Silence filled the vehicle, everyone looked at each other, not knowing what to do or what to say.

The distance was too far; there was no way to get there in time to help.

Ved's strength, in a head-on collision among them, still made him the best, hardly anyone was a match for him, and he only occasionally lost one or two times against certain individuals, but mostly he still came out on top. Now, he had not lasted even two rounds in his opponent's hands and had even sustained serious injuries.

Would he have reacted differently?

Bi Fang had become stronger.

Grace, who was in the same vehicle, felt it even more profoundly and could acutely sense the shift in Bi Fang's strength.

His brother had fallen at the hands of this man, and though not his blood brother, he was family all the same.

Grace had no interest in revenge, yet he had repeatedly watched the combat footage from before and had carefully analyzed Bi Fang's capabilities.

At that time, Grace had thought the opponent was just an exceptionally skilled elite soldier, not unlike himself. That was all, really—who would ever face off alone if encountered?

If they were of the same level, why not just call in an additional person?

But now, the speed, reaction, explosive power, and the ferocious and violent attacking methods that Bi Fang displayed left him with tingling scalp, thankful that it had been Ved who followed the dentist on the "Lion King" hunt, and not himself.

Grace did not have a physique as robust as Ved's; he might have been downed by the first spear.

"Ved needs backup!"

"Zhuomuke! You drive; I need Ved's location, now!"

"Yes!"

"Grace, Guvas, Chaman, you three grab your gear and follow me to Car Two, keep up!"

"Yes!"

While everyone else was still dazed, only Sisko maintained calm and gave out orders and objectives. He moved through the crowded cabin toward Car Two.

No one would disobey Sisko's orders at this time.

Grace, Guvas, and Chaman, carrying their backpacks, followed Sisko as they jumped off the vehicle and quickly moved to the second off-road vehicle, catching up with Car One which kicked up dust ahead.

In this same vehicle, in the broad trunk, two large black bags seemed to contain something alive wriggling around.

Gunshots rang through the woods.

From the emergence to getting injured, everything happened so fast and fierce.

This tall brother, standing at two meters thirteen, was like a small fishing boat on the high seas; one second it was sunny and victory was imminent, the next, a storm with raging winds and towering waves arrived, and capsizing happened in the blink of an eye.

It was absurd that he, who carried firearms and wore a protective suit, could be turned into such a state by a man who seemed to appear out of nowhere, wielding several short spears.

A primitive man?

Intense pain stimulated Ved's adrenaline to surge wildly; he fired at the unidentified person who, with a leaping dive, hid behind a tree, all bullets blocked by the thick trunk.

Bi Fang leaned behind the tree, counting the bullets fired by his opponent, timing the moment for reloading.

Living trees offered formidable resistance, particularly those in the growth phase, with dense structures and ample moisture. Even a rifle of significant power could not penetrate if the tree was just the diameter of a bowl.

If the tree were even larger, say over fifty centimeters in diameter, even a heavy machine gun firing hundreds of bullets might just break it.

Ved was aware of this too; after tentatively firing a few shots, he no longer continued shooting. With a peripheral glance at his thigh, he found his entire leg pinned to the tree by a sleek short spear, rendering him immovable.

He reached out trying to break the short spear, but a severe injury to his right shoulder meant his right hand lacked the strength. Just as he thought of using his left hand, Bi Fang seized the moment to leap behind another tree using the bushes as cover.

This tree was even closer to him!
