Chapter 1085: Hidden Quest

[Hidden Quest Completed]

Sylas had seen the notification a long while ago, but what he didn't know was what it meant. He had cleared many Quests since he entered this world, but he had never come across a Hidden Quest.

The concept itself was easy enough to understand, but as far as Sylas recalled, Hidden Quests weren't really mentioned in the UniForm either.

It was a bit unfortunate, honestly. He had only stepped out into the world for a few moments and yet he had already come across two things his new knowledge couldn't cover for him.

But then again, this new knowledge was also the reason why he could kill a D-Grade as an F-Grade, so to say there were no changes to his situation would likewise be ridiculous.

In the end, he could only click through and see what was going on.

[Hidden Quest Received]

[Rise of the Vipermancer (???)]

[An unprecedented Profession has been formed, one the likes of which is rare in the universe and deserves to be treated as such. The synergy of three Legendary Paths has come together to forge something new and exciting, but difficult to manage nonetheless. To take even a single step forward carries with it the weight of a nation on your shoulders, but to notice this weight would require the insight of an elite you just might not have.

Find a Path forward for the Rise of Vipermancy, relieve it of its restrictions, and curate a Profession all on your own.]

Sylas looked at this description calmly, reading it again and again.

Honestly speaking, he had felt something very peculiar after he gained his Runeweaver Profession. Logically, his Vipermancy Profession was a fusion of not just one Legendary Profession, but three of them.

When speaking about Professions across the universe, this should be practically unheard of, if not entirely unheard of. People often scrambled just to get their hands on one Silver Profession, let alone a Gold one. The concept of just one Legendary Profession was enough to shatter minds…

To have three Legendary Professions that not only fused into a single body, but also had a strong synergy between them because of how diligent Sylas had been in his choice…

It almost felt ridiculous to still call it a mere Legendary Profession, honestly speaking.

And yet, Sylas felt that Runeweaver was even better than Vipermancy. It was a subtle tick, a slight difference, and not enough for it to be wildly out of proportion, but it also had to be remembered that… Sylas wasn't capable of using the full potential of Runeweaver either, because he had chosen to not tie himself to whatever organization had rewarded him with it.

Now, Sylas was finally getting an inkling as to why.

What was interesting about this Hidden Quest, though, was that rather than showing off strict requirements, it instead showed percentages of progress. Now that it was suddenly completed, Sylas could see what had led up to this.

[Contract a Shackled Beast - 5%]

[Read Gene Sequence using unconventional means - 7%]

[Forge a new Serpentes Race from another - 22%]

[Observe Gene Runes - 33%]

[Resurrect Extinct Serpentes Race - 52%]

[Comprehend Gene Runes - 58%]

[Awaken the Pride of a Shackled Beast - 70%]

[Become a Progenitor Grandmaster - 77%]

[Experience the Pride of a Shackled Beast - 82%]

[Forge a Progenitor - 100%]

Sylas looked at this list calmly, remembering each one. Contracting a Shackled Beast probably referred to when he first took in Gogo. Reading a Gene Sequence by unconventional means was probably when he went to see Professor Fembroise for the first time and used the university's supercomputer.

"Forge a new Serpentes Race" could mean many things, but none of what Sylas thought of felt completely accurate on its own. He couldn't remember having ever forged a new Race, though he had resurrected a few.

For example, there was Nosphaleen and the Bone-Tailed Serpent. Even though it said "a new Race from another," it could still be referring to either, because Nosphaleen was originally a Clypsian, while the Bone-Tailed Serpent was originally a dinosaur.

The extinct Serpentes, though, was likely the Bone-Tailed Serpent. They had been wiped out for quite a while according to his encyclopedia of knowledge on Serpentes.

But what was more interesting were the references to Gene Runes. Here, it seemed to be giving him credit for reforging the Grimblade Unique Gene all on his own.

Near the end, although the feats became more impressive, it looked like the percentages slowed down a bit, until the last one suddenly leapt up a considerable margin. It was obvious that this one weighed far heavier than all of the other ones combined, and by a decent margin at that.

The real question at this point was, though…

What did it mean to clear a Hidden Quest?

[Profession Upgrade Quest Detected]

Sylas felt his heart constrict. There was a sudden whipping wind in the air, and the outline of an eye began to slowly form in the air…

But then there came another one.

'… Not good.'

It was just his luck. Even good things somehow became disasters.

The Hidden Quest was probably triggered by the current system, but the Profession Upgrade Quest came from the Legendary System.

Sylas clearly didn't know much about Hidden Quests, but what he had learned was about the system's "Priority Programming," as he had seen it called.

The system was basically a machine that worked on a set of laws. Like every set of code, it had priority measures it had to get to first, and things that it could ignore for the time being.

Combat Mounts and regular Mounts were the perfect example of this priority at play. It was precisely for this reason that you could fight on Combat Mounts, but couldn't hope to do the same on regular Mounts.

If Sylas was correct, a Hidden Quest like this one fed into the new system's main purpose: to continue to evolve. This was why it rewarded Sylas every time he did something great it hadn't considered before.

Of its protocols, Hidden Quests were probably near the very top of its priority list, which meant that… it wouldn't back off so easily against the All-Seeing Eye.
