Chapter 2890: You’ve Placed Your Trust in Me, So I Must Soothe Your Worries

A battle raged beneath the dome of heaven.

The two River Ancestor Lu Shus fought together, attacking with such ferocity that River Ancestor Shen Xiao struggled to hold his own.

He was shocked and furious. What kind of heart devil is this? This is all that remains of a man who died countless years ago, yet it’s pushed me into such a state. How strong must River Ancestor Lu Shu have been in life?

No, something isn’t right here. We’re both River Ancestors. There’s no way the disparity should be this enormous! River Ancestor Shen Xiao realized that something was fishy here, and his brow furrowed. There’s obviously something wrong with my opponent.

Su Yi and the others watched solemnly. They could say with certainty that the two red-robed figures were manifestations of River Ancestor Lu Shu’s heart devil, but none of them had anticipated that a mere heart devil would be so strong.

Before the others could give the matter any further thought, yet another River Ancestor Lu Shu appeared in blood-red robes!

Moreover, the third River Ancestor Lu Shu was hurtling toward Su Yi.

Everyone looked startled, but Innocence was the first to react. She gripped her blood-red spear and charged into battle.

Earlier, Innocence had cut down heart devils as easily as if she were chopping up vegetables, but this time, much to her companions’ shock, she was quickly suppressed!

Her opponent was just too terrifying. This was a heart devil capable of fighting a River Ancestor. How could it possibly be ordinary?

“Attack together! Hurry!” Wang Zhiwu bellowed, his eyes glinting with cold light. “If any of you dare to hold us back, I’ll drag you down to the grave with me, even if it costs me my life!”

Lu Shi, River Emperor Winged Dragon, and the others exchanged glances. All of them realized the severity of the problem.

All of them fought alongside Wang Zhiwu, but within moments, they were sent flying back, their hearts practically collapsing.

Their expressions shifted dramatically. What exactly is going on with River Ancestor Lu Shu’s heart devils? Why are they so terrifying!?

As the battle raged, even Innocence was forced back, her blood-red spear flying from her grip.

“What are you hesitating for? Use your hidden cards!” roared Wang Zhiwu. As he spoke, he flung a sovereign-level talisman with a resounding boom!

A golden seal bursting with searing radiance slammed into one of the heart devils.

Horrifyingly, although this seal was the work of a Heavenly Sovereign, it barely even budged the heart devil. It didn’t injure it, either.

Ultimately, the red-robed figures were heart devils. No matter how powerful the treasure or divine ability, they couldn’t really injure heart devils.

“Go!” Lu Shi suddenly bellowed and took out a black flying sword dripping with blood. It flashed through the air, running through the nearest heart devil’s chest.

But the wound knit back together within moments.

Meanwhile, a heart devil seized Lu Shi’s black flying sword, twisting it like dough until it shattered into fragments.

Splurt! Lu Shi coughed up blood, his expression shifting dramatically.

Practically simultaneously, the three River Emperors unleashed the methods they’d been keeping in reserve. All of them attacked explosively.

But it was to no avail. The figure in blood-red robes was just too terrifying. Nothing seemed to work. He shattered their attacks in an instant and attacked explosively.

Kaboom!

A heaven-shaking impact rang out as the group’s attacks shattered once more. All of them were sent flying.

Some coughed up blood, badly injured, while others collapsed on the ground.

At a critical juncture, it was Innocence who rushed in to block the red-robed figure’s attacks.

But that was her limit. Even when she went all out, she couldn’t defeat the heart devil. Instead, she was repeatedly forced back and injured. Soon, she was riddled with wounds.

Su Yi was the only one not participating in the battle. He just watched from afar.

But no one said anything. None of them expected a Divine Wandering Realm cultivator like him to turn the tides.

“Lu Shi, what fucking time do you think it is? Don’t you think you should reveal your hidden cards already?” Wang Zhiwu shouted.

Lu Shi said coldly, “Why haven’t you used the Book of Legends? Are you planning to just watch that little girl go to her death?”

River Ancestor Shen Xiao wasn’t doing well, either. Two powerful foes were attacking him, one from each side, and he was struggling to hold on.

When he heard Wang Zhiwu and Lu Shi’s argument, he couldn’t help but lose his temper. He shouted, “We’re in grave peril, but you’re still being so selfish. Keep holding back, and I’ll be the first to kill you!”

Lu Shi’s expression shifted, but he remained unmoved. He just sneered provocatively at Wang Zhiwu as if saying, “Let’s see who outlasts who.”

Wang Zhiwu glared coldly at him, but in the end, he was concerned for Innocence’s safety, so he was the first to reveal his hidden killer weapon.

Weng!

The Book of Legends floated into the air, and one of its pages flew up.

But just as he was about to activate it, Innocence pulled out of the battle and charged at Lu Shi. The red-robed figure she was fighting stuck to her like a shadow, so it too charged at Lu Shi.

Wang Zhiwu was stunned. Huh. That works, too.

Lu Shi looked stricken. He cursed inwardly, then turned to flee.

But the little girl had no intention of letting him go. She followed, hot on his heels.

Boom!

The red-robed figure stirred up a swath of black sin power. It blanketed heaven and earth, enveloping both Lu Shi and Innocence. There was nowhere left for them to run.

A deafening impact rang out as Innocence flew backward, badly injured.

Lu Shi was even more wretched. His long hair was disheveled, and he repeatedly coughed up blood.

“Madman!” Lu Shi couldn’t help but shout.

He’d been certain that Wang Zhiwu would be the first to lose control and reveal his killer weapons.

He would never, ever have guessed that the little girl would be so ruthless. She’d actually used herself as bait, diverting disaster onto him.

But Lu Shi had no time to give the matter any further thought. That red-robed figure was already attacking, his aura so terrifying as to make Lu Shi’s hair stand on end.

He cast aside his reservations, bellowed, and shattered a strange golden talisman.

Bang!

His figure vanished into thin air.

Su Yi, Wang Zhiwu, and the others looked around, but they saw no sign of Lu Shi or how he’d fled. There was no trace of him whatsoever.

The three River Emperors were stunned. Lu Shi’s talisman was undoubtedly extraordinary, a life-saving treasure he kept in reserve.

But the way Lu Shi fled battle without fighting disgusted them. River Emperor Winged Dragon, in particular, was full of anger and resentment. After all, he and Lu Shi were originally allies, yet now, Lu Shi was the first to flee and leave him behind. What was he supposed to do now?

Meanwhile, the figure in blood-red robes charged at Innocence once more.

Wang Zhiwu gnashed his teeth and was just about to activate that page from the Book of Legends again when Su Yi pulled him back.

“She ate too much earlier. A few injuries will help her digest her food,” Su Yi said casually.

Wang Zhiwu didn’t know what to say to that. What kind of dogshit logic is that!?

Off in the distance, Innocence called out, “Master is right. Fighting him will help me digest my most recent meal!”

Wang Zhiwu was speechless. Fine! It seems I was worried for nothing!

“Fellow Daoist Su, the situation is dire. Do you perhaps have means of resolving it?” River Ancestor Shen Xiao’s voice rang out. He didn’t threaten Su Yi, but it was obvious that he was displeased that Su Yi wasn’t helping out; that was why he’d called him out by name.

Wang Zhiwu was so angry that he almost laughed. You want a Divine Wandering Realm cultivator to find a way out of this? How could a River Ancestor like you say something so ridiculous?

But against his expectations, Su Yi said directly, “I thought you wanted to test yourself on those two wicked creatures, which is why I chose not to disturb you. Since you asked for my help, I’ll naturally figure out a way to lend a hand.”

River Ancestor Shen Xiao was inwardly vexed. When did I ask you for help?

Outwardly, he smiled. “I can rest assured now that you’ve said that, Fellow Daoist.”

Su Yi laughed inwardly, too. He most certainly didn’t believe that River Ancestor Shen Xiao had no means of destroying those two red-robed figures.

Lu Shi had been holding back earlier, but River Ancestor Shen Xiao was definitely holding back, too.

It stood to reason that the River Emperors had kept cards in reserve, too. All of them were shrewd and experienced. None would reveal their killer weapons until it was absolutely necessary.

They were a pack of old schemers. It was no use pinning his hopes on any of them.

As Su Yi pondered, he sipped from a jug of wine.

He’d noticed that practically all of the heart devils had already been devoured by the three figures in blood-red robes. Even the dark clouds had vanished.

The three figures in blood-red robes were like the source of the lesser heart devils. All three were unbelievably terrifying, to the point that Su Yi couldn’t help but suspect that something had happened to them after River Ancestor Lu Shu’s passing. It seemed his heart devil had split in three.

Wang Zhiwu was frantic, too. Innocence just looked too wretched. Her gaunt frame was severely injured, an indistinct pulp of flesh and blood that seemed like it might collapse at any moment.

She was no match for the red-robed heart figure.

On several occasions, Wang Zhiwu barely resisted the urge to rush to her aid, only for SU Yi to stop him.

River Ancestor Shen Xiao was inwardly frantic, too. He couldn’t take much more of this. “Fellow Daoist Su, have you thought of a way out of this yet?”

He was at a disadvantage against the two red-robed figures, and he looked downright wretched. His whole body was covered in wounds.

Wang Zhiwu inwardly cursed him out. You’re a lofty River Ancestor. How could you be so shameless as to pin your hopes on a Divine Wandering cultivator?

Su Yi hesitated. “I have a way, but it’ll come at a bit of a price. It’s sure to influence the rest of our journey…”

Before he could finish, River Ancestor Shen Xiao said firmly, “Rest assured, Fellow Daoist! Resolve this crisis, and I’ll protect you on the road ahead. I promise not to let anything hurt you!”

His voice echoed throughout heaven and earth.

Su Yi looked as if a massive weight had just lifted from his shoulders. “I can relax now that you’ve said that.”

Wang Zhiwu was stunned. He couldn’t tell whether Su Yi was serious or just putting on an act.

The River Emperors were flabbergasted, too. They looked at Su Yi skeptically.

River Ancestor Shen Xiao said, “We cannot afford any delays. Please lend a hand, Fellow Daoist Su!”

Su Yi put away his jug of wine and said, “You’ve placed your trust in me, so I must soothe your worries.”

Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, Su Yi blurred like a beam of lightning and shot toward the nearest red-robed figure.

Everyone felt a prickling pain in their eyes. Everything went white. It was as if a brilliant sun had risen, illuminating all of heaven and earth with its endless radiance. Everything was enveloped in searing light.

River Ancestor Shen Xiao’s eyes widened, and his heart shook. He could clearly see that after Su Yi flashed past, the nearest red-robed heart devil exploded into pieces, offering no more resistance than paper window paneling!
