Chapter 238: The Fog |
"This place is Mighty Dave's Auto Repair Shop." Dave pulled out a rough map from his pocket. "It's only two streets away from my house. My car is right there."
"If you need to restock your ammunition, you can head to my Secret Arsenal anytime. It's best to be fully prepared before you set out. God knows how many Zombies are hiding in this damn fog."
"I'll leave this to you, my friend. Before you return, I will protect my house and backyard. Not a single Zombie will break in! You just need to bring the Sunflower to the backyard or the front yard. The plants will alert me to your position, and I'll come to your aid immediately." With that said, Dave hurriedly ran toward his house. As an NPC, his task ended here. The rest of the work was entirely up to Bai Mu.
He had obtained a map, along with access to the Secret Arsenal, which he had secured during the previous Script.
Under the gloomy sky, it was impossible to tell what time it was. However, when he entered the house, he noticed the clock on the wall. It was ten-thirty in the morning. He had about five to six hours left before dark.
He had to go to a location two streets away, find an item, and bring it back. One could easily imagine that the fog was teeming with Zombies. With such low visibility, charging in blindly was undoubtedly a high-risk option.
He had already witnessed the oversized monsters known as Giant Zombies during the last run. In his restricted state, without the help of the Cob Cannon, it was nearly impossible for him to defeat such a creature. Furthermore, judging by the Giant Zombie's description, the monstrosity was an unnatural product. It was manufactured, acting like a tank within the Zombie ranks.
Ensuring his safety while retrieving the Sunflower within five or six hours might not be enough time.
Based on his experience, if the mission wasn't completed by nightfall, a massive Zombie Horde would likely erupt.
The scene here matched Bai Mu's memory perfectly. The common Zombies he had killed with burst fire were piled up like a small hill on the street, and the corpse of the Giant Zombie still lay on the grass.
He stepped over the Zombies and equipped the Conehead Zombie's Cone Hat, which, fortunately, had not been disabled. Finding a familiar sense of scavenging for supplies in an abandoned town, he retrieved a rusty meat cleaver from his inventory. Treading lightly, he stepped onto the concrete road.
Visibility within the dense fog was limited to merely four to five meters. It was eerily quiet, yet a lingering stench of rotting corpses and blood permeated the air.
In his skill window, Quick Draw and Secret Sword Art were still available. Aside from those, he only had Best Friend's Help and Berserk. His Title slot was still equipped with Witch's Friend, primarily because he felt his new God Slayer Title would be completely useless against these mindless Zombies. 'Unless it's an absolute emergency, I shouldn't use the gun. Once a shot is fired, the Zombies hidden in the fog will definitely be drawn over,' Bai Mu silently assessed the current situation.
With soundless footsteps, he moved along the edge of the street, sticking closely to the walls of the houses.
He tightly gripped the rusty cleaver, listening intently for any movement in his surroundings.
Not a single living soul could be seen in this small town. However, bloody corpses littered the side of the streets. Their skulls had been dug open, with red and white brain matter splattered across the concrete.
After walking down the street for about five minutes, Bai Mu spotted the first dark silhouette in the fog. Gripping his cleaver tightly and holding his breath, he cautiously crept toward the shadowy figure.
The main issue was that this creature was blocking his only path forward, making it impossible to bypass. Having heard no other Zombie footsteps nearby, he took his cleaver and circled behind it, taking a moment to observe if the Zombies in the fog were any different from the common Zombies he had encountered before. As he drew closer, a silver iron bucket came into Bai Mu's view.
[Name: Buckethead Zombie]
[Type: Zombie]
[Note: The Buckethead Zombie feels that its greatest misfortune was when, on a bright and sunny afternoon, the broken wooden bucket it had worn on its head for years finally fell apart. Fortunately, it soon discovered a brand-new, shiny, and incredibly sturdy iron bucket by the roadside. Without a moment's hesitation, it slammed the iron bucket onto its head.]
This guy wore the same suit as the Conehead Zombies and common Zombies. The only difference was the iron bucket resting on its head.
It appeared to have much higher defense than the other two types of Zombies. While Bai Mu was observing it, the creature turned around without warning. Those dull, foolish eyes stared straight at him with an utterly vacant expression.
Bai Mu kept his stance ready for a Quick Draw, but he didn't attack immediately. He realized that the Buckethead Zombie was merely looking at him; it didn't let out that familiar ravenous groan or stretch its arms out to shamble toward him.
'Is it because I'm wearing the Conehead Zombie's Cone Hat on my head?'
This situation didn't surprise Bai Mu. In fact, it was obvious from the cone hat's item description. For these low-intelligence—no, it would be more accurate to say zero-intelligence—Zombies, simply wearing a hat belonging to their kind was enough to bluff his way through.
In the eyes of the Buckethead Zombie, Bai Mu was probably just a slightly weird-looking Conehead Zombie. It likely couldn't even tell what was so weird about him. At the very least, it didn't sense a fresh brain standing right in front of it. Therefore, after locking eyes with Bai Mu for a few seconds, it completely ignored him and shambled away to wander somewhere else.
Bai Mu silently watched as it turned its back to him. However, he had no intention of sparing this lone Zombie. In the exact moment it faced away, he unleashed his Secret Sword Art, slashing directly at its neck.
A blade aura flashed, carving a visible rift through the dense fog. Then, accompanied by a sickening crack, a severed head plummeted onto the concrete road, followed by the loud clang of the iron bucket striking the ground.
[Secret Sword Art Experience +1]
'Killing a Zombie with the Secret Sword Art actually grants one point of experience...'
Bai Mu mused to himself that killing monsters was indeed the fastest way to level up. If he relied solely on personal training, he would only earn five experience points per hour. Yet, upgrading the Secret Sword Art from level one to level two required a hundred points, and going from level two to level three demanded two hundred points. Every subsequent level increased the requirement by another hundred points. Relying purely on practice would take a monumental amount of time to max out the skill.
But now, executing just five Buckethead Zombies was equivalent to an entire hour of hard training. This progress was simply astonishing.
Perhaps he could figure out a way to farm a decent wave of experience points while inside this Script.
