Chapter 115: Corrective Force

"Such complex Script rules," Misty Rain frowned. "Even though the danger level of this Script is only F-grade, once hidden content gets involved, it becomes exceptionally difficult to deal with."

"Many things still leave traces," Bai Mu replied. "Whether it's making the police dogs disappear or turning us into traitors of the organization, the core objective remains the same—to eliminate any factors that might interfere with the Murder Case."

"Let's just call this power the Corrective Force for now. Judging from what has happened so far, the people, events, and objects in Beika Town are all under the influence of this Corrective Force. Take the police, for example; because of the Corrective Force, they would even automatically ignore the police dogs in their squad."

"During the Murder Case on the second day, that originally weak woman was also able to easily kill an adult man under the influence of the Corrective Force. Any seemingly impractical modus operandi can be successfully executed with the help of the Corrective Force."

"However, this Corrective Force does not seem to affect the minds of us two Players, nor can it directly influence us. Therefore, it can only borrow the hands of the Black Organization to eliminate us."

"If that's truly the case, then if we just obediently act as Forensic Doctors, the Corrective Force might pause its influence on us," Misty Rain said. "But now that things have reached this point, I actually don't want to stop."

Misty Rain looked coldly at the corpse, her expression unfriendly. "To think you dared to point a gun at me. Now you know how the word death is written, don't you?"

.

"Let's keep going," Bai Mu said. "I am very curious about how the Corrective Force will ultimately deal with us."

"If the difficulty goes up, we might even be able to get some pretty good rewards."

When Bai Mu first entered the Script, he did not hold high expectations, thinking it was just a casual, walk-in-the-park scenario. But now his thoughts had changed. If the Script continued to alter, the difficulty would very likely rise.

The greater the difficulty, the greater the rewards. Moreover, this was a Script where they did not need to worry about their lives being in danger; after all, dying merely meant returning to the community.

Rather than being dismissed with a couple of measly consumable items, he would naturally choose to gamble for something bigger.

The two hit it off instantly, deciding to continue disrupting the process.

As for that corpse, Bai Mu discovered that this thing could also be thrown into his inventory.

An item called "Corpse of the Black Organization Assassin" was added to his inventory. Now it was truly a perfect crime. The hardest part of a murder to handle was the corpse, but he had just made it vanish into thin air. Even if anyone wanted to investigate him, they would have no starting point.

The next day, the two of them went to work at the Police Headquarters as if nothing had happened.

Their colleagues had no unusual reactions toward them. After all, the Black Organization was an extremely deeply hidden transnational criminal syndicate.

In truth, if the Black Organization had directly sent their so-called traitor dossiers to the police tip line, it might have been a bit troublesome for Bai Mu and Misty Rain. However, this criminal syndicate did not look like it had any connections with the police, nor did it have a tradition of tipping them off.

After staying at the Police Headquarters for half the day, another Murder Case occurred soon after.

Bai Mu was already used to this. He and Misty Rain got into Endo's patrol car and headed to the Crime Scene.

However, when they stepped out of the car and arrived at a certain villa where someone had died this time, a sudden notification tone chimed in their ears.

["???"'s attention on you has increased. Current attention level: 70%.]

Bai Mu's attention level had increased to 70%, while Misty Rain's had risen to 50%.

"It didn't increase when we took out the man in black last night, but instead went up when we arrived at the Crime Scene?" Bai Mu faintly grasped a clue.

This did not stop Bai Mu from continuing to stir up trouble. Compared to the last one, this case was much simpler. It was another classic pick-one-out-of-three scenario, and Mouri Kogoro had even eliminated one of the options.

Bai Mu did not use the same trick as last time, mainly because the suspects were all detained at the scene today, leaving him with no good excuse to take anyone to another room alone.

Moreover, there was no need to use his previous methods. The details of this case were surprisingly terrible, fraught with glaring loopholes.

The victim's cause of death was incredibly complex, occurring inside a completely sealed locked room, and all three suspects had alibis.

Yet, with so many police officers present, not a single one suggested checking for fingerprints. When Bai Mu brought up, "Why not try checking the fingerprints? Perhaps the Murderer didn't wear plastic gloves?", the entire scene fell dead silent.

The case had focused entirely on the complexity and shock value of the murder method, yet left a massive gap in the most fundamental details. Ultimately, the Murderer's fingerprints were easily detected, and their hair and skin flakes were also found at the scene.

Today, the case concluded without Sleeping Kogoro even having to make an appearance.

["???"'s attention on you has increased. Current attention level: 85%.]

Even though it was the exact same notification tone, for some reason, Bai Mu felt as if he could sense a wave of resentment radiating from it.

With the experience from the previous day, the two of them did not return to their apartment that night, opting instead to rest directly in the morgue at the Police Headquarters.

As a result, they passed the night peacefully. Just as Bai Mu had thought, the Police Headquarters was a suitable safehouse. It was a crucial piece of infrastructure in Beika Town; the local police had to be present for every single case. If the Black Organization were allowed to waltz right in here, it would not be as simple as just tweaking the edges of the story.

"We can confirm it now. The Corrective Force has no way of modifying the core settings," Bai Mu and Misty Rain discussed in low voices inside the morgue. "For example, the Murder Cases that are guaranteed to happen every day, or Conan, Mouri Kogoro, and Mouri Ran, who appear in every case."

"The Police Headquarters is also part of the core settings. As long as we stay here, there won't be any overt threats.

""

"Even the Corrective Force has to be bound by the rules," Misty Rain said.

Aside from having to respond to dispatches, both of them stayed inside the police station. Thus, they smoothly ushered in the fifth case.

They set out alongside the police. To their surprise, they actually faced no additional restrictions this time.

It was only when they arrived at the scene that Bai Mu understood why.

A new character had entered the stage: Hattori Heiji, a high school Detective from the Kansai region. This person could also be seen on the Beika Town news.

Having stayed in Beika Town for five days, Bai Mu had not just been spacing out during his free time. He had borrowed the computers at the Police Headquarters and read through a lot of news.

He instantly realized that this time, the Corrective Force had completely given up on Sleeping Kogoro, opting instead to let Hattori Heiji solve the case.

This case was much more meticulously planned than the last one; at the very least, Bai Mu could not find any loopholes to speak of.

However, in his skill bar, Best Friend's Help had quietly finished cooling down. This was a classic case of having multiple paths when you have multiple friends.

Bai Mu silently activated Best Friend's Help. Lucy made her entrance carrying a plushie backpack, bringing snacks.

Bai Mu stored the three consumable snacks into his inventory. Lucy floated beside him, yet no one present reacted to her. She was in an invisible state, and only Bai Mu could see her.
