Book 7: Chapter 31: Provoking Trouble

Lauren’s subordinates worked with impressive efficiency. In less than half an hour, Lilith and Liana’s meals had already been delivered.

“Here, your pork chop rice.” The bailiff, who clearly knew how to read the situation, respectfully handed over the two boxed meals. Especially when facing Liana, the word humble might as well have been written all over his face.

The influence of the Ye family truly could not be underestimated.

“Mm, not bad. You’ve got potential.” Lilith nodded in satisfaction and patted the bailiff on the shoulder.

“Thank you for the praise, thank you very much.” The bailiff bowed repeatedly, acting nothing like he was dealing with two *criminals*. “Then please enjoy your meal, you two. If you need anything, just call for me. I’ll be waiting in the outer room.”

“Mhm, got it.”

The bailiff withdrew.

Lilith opened the lunch box. An enticing aroma instantly rushed into her nose. “I can’t believe this actually worked and we really got food.”

Holding her lunch box, Liana’s eyes sparkled brightly as she looked at Lilith with pure admiration.

“Hmph hmph, what in this world could possibly stop me?” Lilith grandly waved a hand, carrying the lofty air of someone commanding the world itself. “Look at this free meal, then look at this free lodging. Sure, it’s a little shabby, but aside from me, who else could come up with such a genius idea?”

“Wow, Mountain Ghost, you’re amazing!”

“Alright, alright, stop praising me already. I’m going to get arrogant at this rate.” Lilith waved her hand dismissively. “Let’s eat first.”

Lilith also prepared to start eating, because she truly was getting hungry. Though pork chop rice was only an extremely ordinary meal, in this situation, it somehow carried a unique flavor of its own. Especially when she saw the other prisoners eating swill that looked impossible to stomach, the food in her hands immediately tasted even better.

“Hey, little girl.” Suddenly, someone called out to Lilith.

Lilith turned her head and discovered that the speaker was none other than David, the ruthless murderer Lauren had introduced earlier, the man who had slaughtered an entire family and even drowned an infant with his own hands.

His cell happened to be right next to Lilith’s.

“Hmm? Need something?” Lilith asked.

“Who exactly are you people?”

“Us? Prisoners, obviously.” Lilith lifted the shackles on her wrists for him to see. “We’re sitting in jail cells already. What else could we possibly be?”

“Then why do you get to eat something that good while I’m stuck eating this crap?!” David slammed down the foul slop in his hands. The sour-smelling mush splattered through the bars and onto Lilith’s side.

“Why, huh?” Lilith seriously thought about it for a moment before replying: “Probably because we’re adorable young beauties, while you’re just human trash.”

“Quit spewing that nonsense at me!” David violently shook the iron bars, vicious green light bursting from his eyes. “Hand over the food you’re holding. It’s been ages since I’ve eaten meat.”

“Give it to you?” Lilith raised a brow. “And why should I?”

“Heh… why?” David sneered as he looked around the prison. “Little girl, you still haven’t realized the situation you’re in.”

“Hmm?” Lilith followed his gaze and discovered that from the shadows of nearly every prison cell, fierce-looking prisoners had begun stepping out.

Most of them were skin and bones, covered in wounds, swaying unsteadily as they walked. But when their eyes landed on the food in Lilith’s hands, their gazes became those of starving wolves.

“Mountain Ghost…” Under the weight of those terrifying stares, Liana nervously shrank her neck back.

“It’s fine.” Lilith pulled her behind herself protectively. Then she lifted her head to look at David, the closest one to her, and sneered. “Quite the lineup you’ve got there. You their boss?”

“Heh, boss is too much. My fists are just a little harder than theirs, that’s all.”

“But we’re all locked inside prison cells here. What exactly can you do to us?” Lilith pointed at the iron bars. “If you were capable of breaking free from your cell, you wouldn’t still be stuck in here, would you?”

“Indeed. I’m scheduled for execution after autumn next year. I probably won’t ever escape this prison in my entire life. But not everyone here is going to stay locked up forever.”

David pointed at one of the prisoners. “Take him, for example. Got thrown in here for r̲a̲p̲e̲, but his family’s got some connections. They already paid people off, so he’ll be released in a few days. He hasn’t had an easy time in prison lately, and at the very least, he owes me a bit of respect. So tell me, if you refuse me now, do you really think life outside is going to go well for you?”

Lilith glanced toward the man David indicated. He was tall and skinny, and when he looked at the two girls, especially at Liana’s curvy figure, he licked his lips, greedy lust clearly flickering in his eyes.

But all Lilith wanted to do was laugh. “How boring.” Too lazy to bother with him, Lilith simply sat back down and resumed eating her pork chop rice in small bites. As if afraid they couldn’t see clearly enough, she deliberately slowed her movements even further.

**Gulp.**

Lilith heard the sound of people swallowing their saliva.

“B̲a̲s̲t̲a̲r̲d̲! Hand the food over already!” David continued shaking the bars like a madman. The vicious fiend who once frightened children into silence could now only threaten a little girl for a meal.

And the most important thing was that the threats were completely useless. At that thought, Lilith somehow found the food even more delicious. ‘I just love the look on your faces when you want to hit me but can’t do a damn thing about it.’

“B̲a̲s̲t̲a̲r̲d̲! If I can’t eat it, then don’t think you’ll enjoy it either! “Ptooey!” Apparently pushed beyond his limit, David suddenly tilted his head back and spat. The glob of saliva traced a perfect arc through the air, landing with a bullseye straight into Lilith’s bowl.

Lilith stared at the disgusting spit that had landed in her bowl. The faint smile at the corner of her lips instantly vanished. An icy chill flooded her eyes.

“Hahaha! Now you know how awesome I am, huh? Go on, eat it! If you don’t mind it, keep eating! I’d love to see whether a little brat like you dares eat food covered in my spit!” David threw his head back and roared with triumphant laughter. “If you think it’s disgusting, then hand it over to me. I don’t mind it at all, hahaha…”

“…I see. So you really want to eat that badly…” Lilith stood up and walked toward David’s cell.

“Oh? Finally come to your senses?” David’s eyes lit up as he stretched his arm out with all his might. There was a gap of roughly over a meter between the two prison cells. If he wanted to take the food, both of them would have to reach out at the same time.

“Hurry, hurry and pass it over.” David extended his arm as far as possible, but one person alone still wasn’t enough, so he impatiently urged Lilith on.

“Why make things so troublesome?” Lilith stopped in front of the bars. “Wouldn’t it be easier if I just brought it to you myself?”

“Come over? You don’t even have a key. How are you supposed to get over here?” David thought the little girl had gone stupid from anger. But in the next instant, he froze in place, his jaw nearly dropping from shock at what he saw.

That petite, seemingly delicate little girl walked up to the iron bars. Then she reached out and grabbed two of the bars gently. Yes, only gently. The iron bars that David himself had exhausted every method trying to move instantly bent outward to both sides.

The girl stepped through the opening in a single stride. Then she arrived in front of David’s cell and repeated the exact same action, bending apart the bars before slipping inside. Casual and effortless, like she was visiting a neighbor’s house.

But at some point, David had already retreated all the way to the wall. The arrogance from earlier had completely vanished. Even the legs that had never trembled when he drowned an infant were now shaking uncontrollably.

Lilith walked up to him, flipped her hand over, and dumped the meal David had been obsessing over onto the filthy floor. “Lick it clean with your tongue, and I’ll give you a quicker death.”
