Chapter 689: Ithaqua in Action

In this past week, Liu Xing and the others had been basically idle, lounging around the office like "retired old men."

That afternoon, when they went to work, Wesker returned to the office and said, "I've helped Leon with his resignation procedures, and his medical expenses will be covered by the police department. By the way, Chief Aaron is really a good guy; he even helped Leon apply for a medal, so Leon won't be at a loss."

Liu Xing raised an eyebrow and smiled, saying, "What about us? Shouldn't we at least get a prize or something?"

Wesker shrugged and said, "Chris, you're thinking too much. We're just a bunch of people who didn't do anything remarkable, so getting a bonus would be good enough. Besides, we're about to bid farewell to our police officer careers... By the way, Chris, have you and Jill discussed what you'll do after leaving the police department? Do you want to join my detective agency?"

Three days ago, Wesker had told Liu Xing and Jill that he had already bought an office in London through his connections, and it would be ready to open as a detective agency after their one-month agreement with Chief Aaron ended.

So Wesker invited Liu Xing, Jill, and Leon, who was still recovering in bed, to join his detective agency. After all, they had worked together happily for a while, and a detective agency like this needed high-level professionals to thrive.

Most importantly, Wesker had a good network in the England police force, and Chief House had agreed to support Wesker's detective agency, so even before it opened, many clients had already come knocking.

Therefore, Wesker offered Liu Xing and the others very favorable conditions.

Liu Xing was nonchalant, thinking that he would have to return this body to "Chris" in a few days anyway, so he followed Jill's advice and joined Wesker's detective agency, as Jill didn't want to go back to Scotland.

As for Leon, who still needed to rest for a few months, he also accepted Wesker's invitation, not wanting to work as a white-collar worker in his parents' company... because if he did, he would have to study every day for the next few months.

"Captain, Jill and I have discussed it, and we're willing to join your detective agency, so when will you treat us new employees to dinner?" Jill asked with a smile.

Wesker also smiled, glancing at his watch, and said, "How about tonight? We'll go find Leon after work and then find a place to eat. By the way, Chris, go notify Sergei about it, and if he's free, ask him to join us for dinner."

Liu Xing nodded and went to find Sergei.

In Sergei's office, Liu Xing saw Sergei writing a report.

Seeing this, Liu Xing couldn't help but chuckle and said, "Sergei, you still haven't finished this report? I remember Chief Aaron is urgent about getting it."

Sergei sighed, put down his pen, and said, "Then you tell me, Chris, how should I write this report? You know I can't write some things, and even if I do, it won't pass, so I'm stuck."

Liu Xing looked at Sergei's gloomy face and couldn't help but burst out laughing.

After laughing, Liu Xing told Sergei the reason he came to find him.

"No problem, I'm free tonight, and I'll come to your office before dinner. By the way, Chris, have you heard about something? That guy Veit Revo has escaped or gone missing?"

Veit Revo had escaped?!

Liu Xing was shocked and quickly asked, "What's going on? I remember that guy wasn't directly imprisoned, but Allen had arranged for someone to take care of his daily needs, or rather, to keep an eye on him so he couldn't leave the police department. And I don't remember contacting his family, do I? And Sergei, do you know when he escaped?"

Sergei nodded seriously and said, "From what I know, he should have left the police department a week ago, on the second day after the subway siege operation ended. Because the police officer assigned to watch him died in action, and we were short-staffed at the police department, many tasks weren't completed, and the whole police department was in chaos. So, no one noticed Veit Revo's disappearance until yesterday."

Liu Xing sighed, feeling that if Sergei hadn't mentioned this, he would have already forgotten about Veit Revo in this module.

"What does Chief Aaron think about this? Has he sent someone to catch Veit Revo? You know Veit Revo isn't a normal person, and now he can't even be considered human."

Sergei shook his head and said, "Chief Aaron wasn't too concerned about this after finding out. First, our police department is short-staffed, and it would take a lot of manpower to find someone in London. Second, Veit Revo had a full-body checkup recently, and according to the report, he's no different from a normal person, so Chief Aaron thinks Veit Revo won't cause any trouble outside."

Liu Xing couldn't help but sigh; now Veit Revo was like a fish in the sea, and it would be hard to see him again... unless he still had a role to play in this module.

Soon it was time to get off work, and Sergei and Liu Xing went to the hospital where Leon was.

Although Leon was still in the hospital, his injuries had almost recovered, so after saying goodbye to his doctor, Leon left the hospital with Liu Xing and the others.

At the dinner table, Leon suddenly said, "By the way, I heard something strange yesterday in the hospital. There's a storage room on the fourth floor of the outpatient building where they keep office supplies like paper and ink cartridges. Recently, things in that room have been disappearing, and then reappearing after a while. The hospital thinks someone is playing pranks, so they've assigned someone to monitor the room, but even with someone watching, things still disappear."

"Is there a secret passage in this storage room, or is someone hiding in the storage room?" Jill said with great interest.

Leon shook his head, laughing, "That storage room is only about 20-30 square feet, there's no hidden passage or place to hide, so the hospital's explanation is that someone is playing a prank because the doctors and nurses have been asking for a raise lately."

Liu Xing and the others couldn't help but laugh, because this was a classic English tradition.

In Chris's memory, something similar had happened when he was in school. The teachers had demanded a raise but were rejected, so they created a "paranormal event" in the school and actively promoted it. When the "paranormal event" had fermented for a while, the teachers announced that they would go on strike because of it. As a result, the school gave in to their demands and the "paranormal event" disappeared. No, it should be said that every time the teachers' demands were rejected, the "paranormal event" would reappear.

This was a relatively gentle way of forcing someone's hand.

"By the way, I heard from my friend that the assault case is about to be closed, and Chief Aaron is going to pin all the blame on the leaders of the Chinese mafia," Sergei said.

Although the assault case had been overshadowed by the subway serial killings, many people were still paying attention to it, and Chief Aaron knew that catching the mastermind behind the assault case was as difficult as reaching the sky, so he gave up the idea of continuing to investigate and decided to rush to a conclusion.

This might lead to some controversy, but it was better than not closing the case and causing a bad influence.

As for the subway serial killings, Chief Aaron's official statement was that a group of armed robbers had committed the crime, and they had built a drug trafficking route in the subway. The victims were killed because they had seen the robbers.

The terrifying deaths of the victims were also intentional, as the robbers wanted to kill one to warn a hundred, and make the case look like a terrorist attack related to monsters, so no one would dare to linger in the subway station at night.

Although Western countries always boasted about their freedom of speech, and the media dared to tell the "truth", everyone knew that the media's mouthpiece was controlled by someone, so under the English government's guidance, the major media outlets in England cooperated and broadcast the related news.

The subway serial killings case was thus closed.

After dinner, Liu Xing and the others went their separate ways.

After returning home, Liu Xing watched TV with Jill for a while before going to bed.

In the past week, Liu Xing had been constantly receiving updates from Miss Wang, but the news was nothing special, just the usual conflicts between the Cult of the Cadaver and Gralki's followers, Ithaqua appearing and disappearing on certain streets, and Cthulhu's followers entering London, etc.

However, tonight Miss Wang brought Liu Xing a piece of unusual news - Manchester's EinsCastle had been attacked by an unknown person/mythical creature, and Gary was seriously injured and sent to the hospital.

Although Gary had been staying in EinsCastle, Miss Wang always felt that Gary was up to something, so she deliberately sent someone to keep an eye on EinsCastle's movements.

As a result, just tonight, Miss Wang's subordinates saw a humanoid creature in black clothes rushing into EinsCastle, and then a thunderball flew out of EinsCastle, followed by the creature leaving EinsCastle, and Gary was taken away by an ambulance an hour later.

Based on the thunderball that flew out of EinsCastle, Liu Xing guessed that the one who attacked Gary was Ithaqua, because Yis People's signature weapon, the tazer, could create an electric ball to attack enemies, and from a distance, it looked like a thunderball.

As for why Ithaqua attacked Gary, it was probably because Ithaqua wanted something from Gary, so it came to "ask" for it.

But looking back, Liu Xing finally understood why EinsCastle would put up Elder Sign wallpaper in the future - because Gary had guessed that Ithaqua was from Yis People after being attacked by Ithaqua's tazer, so Gary, who had learned from his mistakes, decided to put up Elder Sign wallpaper on the walls of EinsCastle to annoy these mythical creatures and avoid having Ghouls come to find him.

In addition, Miss Wang mentioned another thing, that the Cult of the Cadaver had brought in a batch of reinforcements from France, and these reinforcements seemed to be carrying something very important to the Cult of the Cadaver, related to the "Cult of the Cadaver Ritual".

Because Miss Wang had learned from her acquaintances at the English customs that these Cult of the Cadaver reinforcements were very concerned about a small box, which was found to contain a book when it went through security checks.

It seemed that this book was the Cult of the Cadaver's last trump card.

As a result, just two days later, Liu Xing, who had just finished washing up and was about to sleep, received another message from Miss Wang - Ithaqua had stolen the small box!

Because of some historical grudges between France and England, the Cult of the Cadaver followers from France seemed to be at odds with the local followers, so the French people chose to stay elsewhere with the small box, and Ithaqua, disguised as an English Cult of the Cadaver follower, snuck in and stole the small box.

Ithaqua had already escaped from London, and the Cult of the Cadaver followers were hot on its heels.

However, this was not good news for Liu Xing, because Ithaqua's power had been further enhanced.

The day finally arrived.
