Chapter 121: The Grudge Between Mike and Robert

"Audrey Jenny."

At this moment, Mike, inside the elevator, kept repeating this name over and over.

It was a woman's name—his fiancée's name.

They were supposed to have married five years ago.

But in the end, it never happened.

Why?

Because his fiancée died.

She died in a case that occurred five years ago.

That case was related to Robert.

Robert had two nicknames.

The first was "The Night Sniper," because he committed crimes only at night.

The second was "Disciple of the Devil," because after each crime, he would leave behind a skull drawn in blood.

During the long period when Robert was active,

the entire Maple Country was gripped by terror, especially the residents of the cities Robert frequented—where multiple murders had already taken place. They were terrified beyond belief, too scared to go outside at night, hiding at home and guarding themselves fiercely, fearing encountering this horrific, psychopathic serial killer in the dark.

This shows just how terrifying Robert’s presence was during that time.

Even worse, no one could confirm the killer’s identity back then; the clues were too few.

Out of helplessness, the Maple Country police announced a huge bounty.

Detectives from all over the world rushed to Maple Country for the reward.

Among those detectives who arrived were Mike, his girlfriend Audrey Jenny, and several of their friends.

Their professional skills were unquestionable.

Together with other detectives and local police,

after countless hardships, they finally confirmed the true identity of the killer—it was Robert!

So, the current problem was to catch Robert!

After Robert’s identity was exposed, he shockingly remained bold, continuing his crimes without any restraint.

In his last crime, he fell into one of the traps set by Mike and other detectives.

The trap Mike’s girlfriend and two other male detectives were assigned to stake out.

They had set many traps, but the one Mike’s girlfriend was responsible for was calculated as the least likely for Robert to fall into.

But fate was cruel—Robert fell into the trap with the least chance.

After falling into the trap, Robert’s brutality was beyond imagination.

The end result was that Mike’s girlfriend Audrey Jenny was seriously injured and died three days after being hospitalized.

One of the two male detectives died, and the other was seriously injured.

By a stroke of luck, Robert was not in good shape either.

He was badly wounded and tried to escape, but nearby residents who heard the commotion surrounded him and nearly beat him to death.

If the Maple Country police hadn’t arrived quickly, the enraged crowd would have surely beaten him to death.

But it was only nearly—he still didn’t die.

Instead, because of him, so many people died.

"I miss you so much, Audrey..."

In China, there were many intelligence brokers.

Many of them were more professional than Lu Fei and Huo Xiaoyu, but why did Mike choose them?

Because Mike’s girlfriend was also a detective, and they eventually fell in love.

How similar was this to Lu Fei and Huo Xiaoyu’s experience?

It was also because of his girlfriend’s death five years ago.

Since then, Mike never took on murder cases involving homicide again.

What he never expected was that Robert, who should have been waiting for the death penalty in a Maple Country prison, was somehow released?

And even more shocking, he appeared in distant China?!

Right inside the apartment where Mike was investigating a disappearance?!

"What on earth is going on?!"

Even Mike was thrown off balance by the current situation, especially since Robert was the murderer who killed his girlfriend. The saying goes, “a confused insider, a clear outsider,” but he had already fallen into the confusion of an insider!!!

But soon, he composed himself again.

A fierce fire ignited in his eyes.

"I don’t care how you got out! But since fate has brought you to me, I will kill you with my own hands!"

Mike stepped out of the elevator. In the darkness, his emerald green eyes emitted a faint eerie glow.

His memories began to resurface.

He recalled Robert’s capture and subsequent court trial.

Although Robert had committed countless unforgivable crimes, and the evidence was solid,

due to the obstruction from the defense lawyer and some surviving witnesses unwilling to testify, it took a long time to confirm his guilt.

Still, in the end, all 59 charges—including murder, manslaughter, theft, and robbery—were proven!

His death sentence was ironclad!

But Maple Country had one terrible flaw regarding the death penalty—it took an incredibly long time to carry out.

So long that many death row inmates died before execution.

Of course, this did not anger Mike.

What angered him was that after Robert’s capture and exposure,

he somehow gained many female fans outside, who worshipped him. There was even a supposedly highly educated elite woman who wrote dozens of love letters to Robert in prison, wanting to marry him!!!!

Because of these fanatical female fans’ influence, Robert’s execution date was continuously delayed. This effectively prolonged the life of this scumbag.

Because of this, Mike felt that some humans deserved to have a serial killer like Robert come kill their families.

...

At 10 p.m.

Fitness trainer Sun Yijie lay on the big bed in room 901, waiting for what was about to happen.

The sound of flowing water continuously reached his ears—Xia Xiaomei was taking a shower in the bathroom.

Honestly, if Xia Xiaomei weren’t rich, he wouldn’t have looked at her, let alone have this happen the first time they met today.

It was all for the money.

Plus, he hadn’t been with a woman for a long time...

So, for now, he was just going along with it.

Just having some fun, no big deal. After all, he had served older, unattractive rich women before.

Just as he was thinking this, the sound of running water stopped.

Immediately after, a figure wrapped in a white towel appeared in front of Sun Yijie.

The person wrapped in the white towel was Xia Xiaomei.

Seeing Xia Xiaomei fresh out of the shower, Sun Yijie was stunned.

Of course, not stunned by beauty.

But stunned by ugliness.

Damn, how could her looks be even worse after washing off her makeup?

Could she possibly get uglier?

He thought Xia Xiaomei’s face at the matchmaking event was already her lowest point.

But he didn’t expect it could get even worse!

Her face was covered with dense, extremely obvious freckles... so disgusting...

Sun Yijie started cursing in his heart: You woman, so rich, can’t you spend money on skincare or get some cosmetic work done?

Damn!

This is poisoning my eyes!

Sun Yijie forced a “happy” smile on his face, suppressing his disgust.

Their eyes met, and what was about to happen next was obvious.
