Chapter 446: Honor

The competition had ended.

Dorothy left the competition venue alone. She looked at the setting sun in the distance, and her mood was like the dim sunlight that turned into darkness with time.

This feeling was really uncomfortable. Victory and dreams were close at hand, but because of a small gap, she completely missed it.

The things that were within her reach were smashed into pieces in front of her.

Unwillingness and disappointment surged into Dorothy’s heart.

But now, she was more confused.

Dorothy walked on the street of this high-level magic academy, recalling the feeling when she first came to Nolan.

She was not familiar with this city, nor did she know anyone in this city.

Dorothy put all her chips into this game.

With the failure of the last game, everything Dorothy did after she came to Nolan became meaningless.

What should she do next?

Dorothy began to think of ways to remedy the situation.

She did not win the championship of Nolan, but she knew the whereabouts of the leaves of the world tree, which was the reward for the championship.

The Dwarves lived in Nolan, so logically speaking, they should not need the leaves of the world tree.

Perhaps Dorothy could buy the twigs of the world tree from the Frost Axe.

But Dorothy found that the most valuable thing on her body was probably the Hearthstone’s legendary card box.

The Frost Axe, who had all the golden cards, would definitely not want Dorothy’s card box.

Was there really nothing she could do?

At this moment, she suddenly heard an extremely familiar voice.

“Dorothy!”

Someone was calling her name.

The moment Dorothy heard this voice, she felt as if her body was frozen and she could not move.

“Father… dear.”

Dorothy turned around and looked at the middle-aged man who was running from afar. She was trying to organize her words to explain to her father.

“Miss Dorothy, it’s really difficult to see you.”

“Mr. Edke.”

When Dorothy saw the son of the count who was following behind her father, the self-reproach in her heart was enveloped by a kind of wordless fear and uneasiness.

She had completely messed up everything!

The gloomy expression on the son of the Count’s face was enough to explain many things.

“Dorothy! You came to this magic academy to study, right? Look at you, you’re still wearing Nolan’s spell caster robe.”

His father held Dorothy’s hand and forcefully pulled her to the face of the Count’s son, then asked Dorothy.

Study? Dorothy was slightly silent for a moment, and soon he understood what his father meant.

It was to find a reason for her to run away from the marriage!

If it was for the ‘Noble Pursuit’of coming to Nolan to study, perhaps the son of the count could still reluctantly accept it. If Dorothy begged in a low voice again, the rift in the relationship caused by her running away from the marriage could still be mended.

If the son of the count was unhappy, he could easily remove the name of the silver-patterned trade association from Orson Castle!

Dorothy’s lips were tightly shut. She could feel her father’s eager gaze beside her.

All she had to do was to lie. If the count’s son found out that she had come to Nolan to participate in the Hearthstone legend competition, everything would be over.

But Wait… what was wrong with her participating in the Hearthstone competition?

Suddenly, a strange anger overflowed from Dorothy’s heart. The source of her anger was the contemptuous gaze of the count’s son, as well as a strange sense of honor.

That was the sense of honor of being a hearthstone legend player.

“No! Father, I came here to participate in the Hearthstone legend competition.”

Dorothy said to the person in front of her under her father’s despairing gaze.

“You ignored my invitation to you and came to Nolan just to hang out with a group of Dirty Dwarves to play some low-level card game?”

He stared at Dorothy’s wine-red eyes and could feel the arrogance in her eyes.

“Hearthstone legend is not a cheap game!”Dorothy retorted loudly to the earl’s eldest son’s slander.

“Dorothy! Shut Up!”

Her father could not stand it anymore and raised his arm to swing at Dorothy’s cheek.

At this moment, Dorothy closed her eyes and prepared to accept the ‘punishment’that was coming. However, the pain that she had expected did not appear on her cheek.

Time passed slowly. Dorothy opened her eyes and found that her father’s arm was surrounded by a silver-white ring of runes. The ring of runes stopped her father’s action.

This was a magic attack!

The eldest son of the count instantly realized that the spell casters around him had attacked. The five knights who had been following him all this time also rushed out abruptly, trying to find the spell caster who had attacked rashly.

However, these knights had not even taken a few steps when they were directly knocked down to the ground.

“Little human outsider! What did you say just now? Say It Again!”

A voice that could be heard by the entire street sounded behind Dorothy. Dorothy recognized this voice… it was the voice of the great dwarf elder, Frost Axe!

As expected, Frost Axe dragged a knight who had been knocked unconscious by him and threw him in front of the count’s eldest son. Then, Frost axe directly stood beside Dorothy.

There were six dwarves who came with Frost Axe. These dwarves hugged their arms and directly surrounded the count’s eldest son.

“Do you dwarves know what you’re doing? !”The knights who had fallen to the ground finally shouted angrily at the dwarves.

The relationship between the humans and dwarves in the country of steel was not as good as Nolan’s.

The dwarves who lived in the territory of the country of steel had always been fighting with them for the mineral veins, so no one in the country of steel would like these short and fat subhumans, let alone respect them!

“Of course I know, and in the next second, your face is going to hit my fist!”

Frost axe gestured with his fist, which was full of scars. This fist was about three times the size of a human’s. A dent in the helmet of the Knight was enough to prove the power of this punch.

The eldest son of the Count felt fear and took a step back. Soon, a pure white barrier formed on the ground appeared in front of him.

“Dwarves, please show some respect to Count Cruz’s eldest son.”

The spell caster who had been following the eldest son of the count finally could not stand it anymore. This was also the reason why he was so fearless. This spell caster was one of the strongest mages in Olsen Castle.

His usual task was to be his father’s guard. On this trip to Nolan, Count Cruz appointed this spell caster to protect him.

“Master Lars, please make those dwarves disappear from my sight,”the eldest son of the count, alterk, said to the spell caster beside him in a respectful voice.

However, before the old wizard could cast his next spell, the magic barrier that he had constructed instantly shattered into pieces, and the magic staff in his hand flew into the sky.

“Master Lars!”

Alterke looked in shock at the magic staff that the spell caster beside him had dropped. The spell caster seemed to have seen something terrifying, and at that moment, he did not even have the intention to resist.

“Little Lars, have you forgotten the Academy’s Rules? It seems that after you graduated for so many years, I’ll have to teach you the rules again.”

An old man dressed in shabby clothes slowly walked out from the darkness.

“I’m sorry, I was too impulsive, Sage Luersk.”

Without waiting for the eldest son of the count to say anything, the spell caster whom he called master Lars immediately bowed respectfully to the front.

Luersk, the gray-clothed person who was one of the Seven Sages of Nolan?

The count’s eldest son stared blankly at the somewhat slovenly old man. If his image could not be equated with the ‘sage’, the spell he just cast was enough to prove the power of this spell caster!

Why would one of the Seven Sages of Nolan appear here? But Edko had no time to think.

“Great gray-clothed man, I came to this academy just to bring back my fiancée. I have no intention of provoking you.”He respectfully saluted the gray-clothed man as if he was an aristocrat.

“Leave this place immediately.”

The grey-clothed man did not explain too much, only saying six words very calmly.

The Count’s eldest son was stunned for a moment. Just as he was about to continue arguing, the elderly spell caster beside him immediately pulled him and prepared to leave.

“Lord edke, let’s Go!”

Although the count’s eldest son had been thoroughly enraged by the dwarves, his reason still told him that it was definitely not a wise choice to anger a sage. He glanced at Dorothy, who was protected by a group of dwarves, and then chose to leave.

“Dorothy… This…”

Dorothy’s father stayed behind. He looked at the gray-clothed man standing behind Dorothy in disbelief.

Nolan’s seven sages were almost on the same level as the legendary gods to the commoners of various countries.

Dorothy did not understand what exactly happened. She turned around and looked at the old man behind her.

“You have defeated many of Nolan’s powerful Hearthstone players. Dorothy, even though you did not win the championship, you still relied on your own hands to win the glory that belongs to you, as well as… My Respect,”the gray-clothed man said. “There is also the respect of other players. You can choose to leave just like this, or you can welcome your honor and listen to the cheers that belong to you.”

The gray-clothed person turned her body sideways.

The Sky had completely turned dark, but the magic arena behind the gray-clothed person was still brightly lit. Dorothy could hear the voices of the audience in the arena from where she stood.

There was still a group of people waiting for her in the Magic Arena. There was also a group of people who wanted to see her walk up to the podium and shout a special slogan.

It was just like how every victory of Dorothy’s would have people cheering for her.

It was too irresponsible to choose to run away at this time.

“Let’s go. Everyone is still waiting for us.”

Dorothy felt something swirling in her eyes. She rubbed her eyes and did not wait any longer. She directly followed the gray-clothed man and the dwarves led by Frost Axe to the magic arena that was emitting light.

    Chapter 446: Honor

    The competition had concluded.

Dorothy left the competition venue alone. She watched the setting sun paint the horizon in hues of fading light, her mood mirroring the dimness that gradually succumbed to darkness.

A profound sense of unease settled within her. Victory and dreams had been within reach, yet a minuscule gap had transformed them into an unattainable mirage.

The things she had grasped were shattered before her eyes.

Unwillingness and disappointment surged through Dorothy.

    But now, confusion took root.

Dorothy walked along the academy streets, recalling the feelings that had accompanied her arrival in Norland.

She was unfamiliar with the city and knew no one there.

Dorothy had placed all her chips on this game.

With her defeat in the final match, everything she had done since arriving in Norland seemed to have lost its meaning.

"What should I do next?" Dorothy began to search for a solution.

She had not won the championship, but she knew the whereabouts of the World Tree’s leaves, the championship reward.

Dwarves resided in Norland, so logically, they shouldn't require the leaves of the World Tree.

Perhaps Dorothy could purchase the twigs from Frost Axe.

But Dorothy realized that her most valuable possession was likely her Hearthstone legendary card box.

Frost Axe, who possessed all the golden cards, would certainly have no interest in her card box.

'Was there truly nothing I could do?'

At that moment, she heard an extremely familiar voice.

“Dorothy!” Someone was calling her name. The sound froze her in place.

    “Father…”

Dorothy turned to see her middle-aged father running towards her. She tried to organize her thoughts, to explain.

“Miss Dorothy, it’s been difficult to find you.”

    “Mr. Akite.”

When Dorothy saw the count's son following her father, her self-reproach was replaced by a wordless fear and unease.

'I’ve completely messed everything up!' Akite’s gloomy expression spoke volumes.

“Dorothy! You came to this magic academy to study, right? Look, you’re still wearing Norland’s mage robe.”

Her father grasped Dorothy’s hand and pulled her towards the count's son, then questioned her.

'Study?' She paused, then understood her father’s intent.

It was to create a reason for her elopement!

If it was for the ‘noble pursuit’ of studying in Norland, perhaps the count’s son would reluctantly accept it. If Dorothy pleaded, the rift caused by her elopement could still be mended.

Akite could easily ruin the Silver Flower firm in Osenberg.

Dorothy’s lips were sealed. She felt her father’s eager gaze.

All she had to do was lie. If the count’s son discovered she had come to Norland for the Hearthstone competition, everything would be over.

But wait… what was wrong with participating in the Hearthstone competition?

Suddenly, a strange anger surged through Dorothy. It was fueled by the count’s son’s contemptuous gaze and a strange sense of honor.

The honor of a Hearthstone player.

“No! Father, I came here to participate in the Hearthstone competition.” Dorothy spoke, ignoring her father’s despairing look.

“You ignored my invitation and came to Norland to play a low-level card game with dirty dwarves?” He stared into Dorothy’s wine-red eyes, sensing her defiance.

“Hearthstone is not a cheap game!” she retorted.

    “Dorothy! Shut up!”

Her father, unable to bear it, raised his arm to strike her cheek.

Dorothy closed her eyes, bracing for the blow. But the pain never came.

Time passed. Dorothy opened her eyes to see her father’s arm encased in a silver-white ring of runes. The runes had halted his action.

    'This was magic!'

Akite realized mages had intervened. His five knights rushed forward, seeking the caster.

However, the knights were instantly knocked to the ground.

“Little human outsider! What did you say? Say it again!”

A voice, loud enough to be heard down the street, echoed behind Dorothy. It was the voice of the great dwarf elder, Frost Axe!

He dragged an unconscious knight and threw him before Akite, standing beside Dorothy.

    Six dwarves surrounded the group.

“Do you dwarves know what you’re doing?!” The fallen knights shouted.

The relationship between humans and dwarves in Ogounis was strained.

The dwarves, vying for mineral veins, were disliked and disrespected.

“Of course I know. And next, your face will meet my fist!”

Frost Axe gestured with his scarred fist, three times the size of a human’s. A dent in a knight’s helmet testified to its power.

The count’s son recoiled. A white barrier appeared before him.

“Dwarves, show respect to Count Cruz’s eldest son.”

The mage accompanying Akite finally intervened. He was a powerful mage from Osenberg, assigned to protect Akite.

“Master Lars, make those dwarves disappear,” Akite told the mage respectfully.

But before the mage could cast a spell, his barrier shattered, and his staff flew into the air.

    “Master Lars!”

Akite stared at the fallen staff. The mage looked terrified, offering no resistance.

“Little Lars, have you forgotten the Academy’s rules? After all these years, I’ll have to reteach them.”

An old man, dressed in shabby clothes, emerged from the shadows.

“I’m sorry, I was impulsive, Sage Lursk.”

    The mage, Lars, bowed respectfully.

'Lursk, the Gray Sage of Norland?' The count’s son stared at the slovenly old man. His spell proved his power.

'Why would a Sage appear here?' Akite had no time to think.

“Great Gray Sage, I came to retrieve my fiancée. I mean no provocation.” He greeted him respectfully.

    “Leave immediately.”

    The Gray Sage spoke calmly.

The count’s son hesitated. But the mage pulled him away.

    “Lord Akite, let’s go!”

Though enraged, Akite knew it was unwise to anger a Sage. He glanced at Dorothy, protected by dwarves, and left.

    “Dorothy… this…”

Dorothy’s father remained. He looked at the Gray Sage in disbelief.

Norland’s Seven Sages were akin to gods to commoners.

Dorothy didn’t understand. She turned to the old man.

“You defeated Norland’s powerful Hearthstone players. Dorothy, even without the championship, you earned glory and… my respect,” the Gray Sage said. “And the respect of other players. You can leave, or embrace your honor and the cheers.”

The Gray Sage turned. The sky was dark, but the arena was lit. Dorothy heard the crowd.

People were waiting for her, eager to see her speech.

Like every victory, they would cheer.

    It was irresponsible to flee.

    “Let’s go. They’re waiting.”

Dorothy felt tears welling up. She followed the Gray Sage and the dwarves to the illuminated arena.
