Chapter 230: Breaking Through Level 70

By the time the Rolls-Royce carrying Jiang Jingshi arrived at the hospital, it was already evening. Since she was still unconscious, the hospital staff sprang into action without a moment’s delay.

Even the regular doctors weren’t allowed to handle the case — only department heads personally stepped in.

After a flurry of activity and thorough examinations using every available instrument, more than an hour passed.

Inside the private ward, Jiang Qian stared at her sister lying peacefully on the hospital bed with a deeply worried expression.

Jiang Jingshi had already changed into a white hospital gown. Her slightly wavy long hair spread out across the pillow.

Pan Lin and the driver stood silently at the side, both looking increasingly tense. At this point, there was no way to hide the truth any longer.

Jiang Qian asked coldly, “What is Jixin Syndrome? And when did this happen?”

The driver didn’t dare speak. It was Pan Lin who, glancing at the still-unconscious Jiang Jingshi, softly said:

“President Jiang was just diagnosed a few days ago. It’s a hereditary cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease. According to the doctors, it’s been present for a while already.”

Jiang Qian fixed her gaze on her sister. “Hereditary? Then why wasn’t it discovered earlier?”

“The doctors said it skips generations. Not everyone carrying the gene will develop it. Also, symptoms only show up after adulthood, so it wouldn’t have been detected in childhood physicals.

In fact, the Eldest Miss asked the doctors about your condition too. They said you’re healthy and haven’t shown any signs of it.”

Jiang Qian clenched her slender fingers tightly.

“When they examined her just now, the doctors said this could eventually lead to full-body paralysis, right?”

Pan Lin remained silent.

Jiang Qian turned on both of them angrily. “Such a serious matter — my sister told you not to tell me, so you really didn’t say a single word?!”

“Qianqian...” Suddenly, the unconscious Jiang Jingshi opened her eyes.

Her gaze was a little dazed.

The three of them quickly rushed over.

“President Jiang! You’re awake!”

“President Jiang!”

Jiang Qian anxiously leaned closer to the bedside. “Sister! How are you feeling?”

Jiang Jingshi’s mind was still a bit foggy, but when she saw the hospital environment and the people around her, she immediately understood the situation.

Looking at her sister’s worried face, she realized that although they usually only quietly cared about each other, it was rare for Jiang Qian to openly show such concern.

Jiang Jingshi smiled, “I feel fine. Where did I faint?”

Jiang Qian choked up, “In the garden. Why didn’t you tell me about something this serious?”

Her voice suddenly turned hoarse. Jiang Jingshi’s peach blossom eyes widened slightly as she smiled and held her sister’s hand.

“What serious matter? I told you, I’m fine. Don’t make it sound worse than it is.”

She glanced at Pan Lin and the driver and gently said, “You two can go now. You don’t have to stay here.”

Pan Lin and the driver exchanged glances and nodded. But just as they were leaving, Jiang Jingshi suddenly added, “Pan Lin!”

Pan Lin turned back immediately. “Yes, President Jiang?”

Jiang Jingshi whispered, “Don’t tell him. It’s so late — I don’t want to bother him. I’m fine. It’s just the early stage.”

Pan Lin slowly nodded, and Jiang Qian could more or less guess who her sister was referring to.

Pan Lin and the driver exited, closing the door behind them.

Now, only the two sisters remained in the ward. Jiang Jingshi’s beautiful eyes shifted back to her sister, and she chuckled.

“What’s with that look? I don’t usually see you looking at me like that. Don’t you normally just bicker with me?”

For once, Jiang Qian didn’t argue. She blurted out, “That’s different. This time is different. If you think I’m unhappy when we bicker, I’ll apologize. I’m sorry, Sister.”

Jiang Jingshi looked stunned for a moment, then smiled softly. “What are you apologizing for? I actually like the Qianqian who argues with me. Being this obedient doesn’t suit you at all.”

Jiang Qian said nothing.

A little later, the department head entered the ward. Jiang Qian quickly stood up. “Doctor! How’s my sister’s condition?”

The department head, holding the scans, explained,

“President Jiang, Second Miss, the test results are out. The situation isn’t as optimistic as we’d hoped. The disease is progressing faster than expected. We initially predicted it would reach the late stage in about three months, but it could be even sooner.”

Jiang Qian immediately asked, “What? Then what should we do?”

“The related medications from abroad have arrived. Starting today, President Jiang will take them daily, and we’ll monitor her closely.”

“Medication?” Jiang Qian frowned. “This serious and you’re just giving her pills? Can that really cure it?”

The doctor hesitated.

At this moment, lying on the bed, Jiang Jingshi wasn’t that frightened. Because she believed that someone would save her — as long as he agreed, he would definitely make it happen. She trusted him.

Jiang Jingshi sat up slowly and interrupted, “Doctor, just say it. At this point, you might as well be honest.”

Jiang Qian hurriedly helped her sister.

The doctor looked grim. “This disease is extremely rare, not just in our country but globally. It’s still classified as incurable. The best we can do is slow it down with medication and maintaining a good mental state. As for anything else...”

Jiang Qian scowled in anger. “What did you just say?!”

Jiang Jingshi calmly soothed her, “Qianqian! It’s not the doctor’s fault. Don’t speak to him like that.” Then she turned to the doctor. “I understand. Thank you for your hard work.”

The doctor knew the situation well and wasn’t offended. “It’s nothing. I’ll have the nurses bring the medication now. The experts at the hospital will continue searching for treatment options. Perhaps there will be a miracle.”

Jiang Jingshi nodded, and the doctor left.

The night in Zitong City wasn’t dark at all. The streets outside the hospital were even livelier than during the day, glowing with flashing neon lights.

Inside the quiet ward, Jiang Jingshi noticed Jiang Qian lowering her head in silence.

Biting her lip, tears slid down Jiang Qian’s cheeks.

Seeing her sister cry moved Jiang Jingshi.

“Qianqian? You’re crying? I told you I’m fine. Don’t be like this.”

Jiang Qian suddenly threw herself onto her sister’s lap, gripping the blanket tightly. Her voice trembled. “Why does this have to happen to you? I can’t accept it...”

Jiang Jingshi gently stroked her sister’s head to comfort her.

“Don’t be scared, don’t be scared. I’m not even afraid, so why are you? Besides, I might still have a chance to be cured.”

Jiang Qian sobbed even harder.

Jiang Jingshi smiled,

“Really, I’m not just trying to make you feel better. I really do have a chance.”

Jiang Qian turned her head slightly, looking at her sister.

Jiang Jingshi felt like her sister had reverted to being a little child again — back when she could do nothing but cry.

“Listen to me. Don’t tell Mom and Dad yet. They’ll only worry. If you have to tell them, wait a week.”

“But this is serious... Why wait a week?”

“Because, in a week, someone will call me. I’m waiting for his call.”

Jiang Qian stared at her sister, confused about what she meant.

“Lin Zhengran?”

Jiang Jingshi thought to herself, My sister’s reaction is really fast, and deliberately teased,

“Mm, your brother-in-law.”

Jiang Qian buried her face into her sister’s lap and rasped,

“He’s not my brother-in-law.”

Jiang Jingshi couldn’t help but laugh and continued to gently stroke her sister’s head.

“Anyway, just listen to me. Wait one week.”

— Two Days Later —

Inside the laboratory, the entire table was covered with experiment notes and failed samples scattered everywhere.

Sweat beaded on Lin Zhengran’s forehead as he carefully opened a round, bucket-shaped container.

He took out the contents and poured in hot water.

“Makes sense — theory is theory, but it’s never smooth sailing.”

As he mumbled, he threw in various random packets — seasoning, beef tallow, salt — and closed the lid, waiting five minutes.

Five minutes later, he picked up the plastic fork and began slurping up hot instant noodles.

As he ate, he stared at the rows of bottles filled with the medicines he had concocted.

He sighed in relief.

“Even with a solid theory, it still took me two whole days and dozens of failures before I finally succeeded. And what’s more annoying is, just as I finished making the special medicine, the system notified me of a breakthrough thanks to my recent encounter with Fang Meng...”

【Fortuitous Encounter — In these past two days, you and Princess Jiang's personal assassin Fang Meng explored the Holy Doctor’s Ancient Ruins and obtained many treasures, elixirs, and ancient techniques. Several of the techniques even resonated with your bloodline, causing your cultivation to skyrocket!】

【During this encounter, you gained Spirit Level +3, Stamina +1, and Master of All Things Level +1.】

【Your Spirit Level has now reached Level 70, and since your Stamina is maxed out, it has transformed into a new ability — Resonance with Heaven and Earth.】

【Resonance with Heaven and Earth: Your spiritual power has begun to resonate with nature itself. As this resonance grows stronger, you will gain the ability to manipulate rain, wind, earthquakes, and thunder. Additionally, while refining pills or crafting items, you can draw on the world's spiritual energy to create miraculous effects.】

Lin Zhengran was slightly shocked when he heard the system’s voice.

Did I hear that right? Why does this new ability sound so ridiculous?

And he had even gained three levels all at once.

Indeed! We have the same thought process. It would instantly elevate my ratings sky-high if that happened. I still want MC to have an Ancient Sect/Cultivator gf hahaha. I've caught up. This is one of the worst moments of my life. I want to try MTL but that would ruin the story and the experience. Sigh sigh sigh.

Hey. It seems that there are actually advanced chapters on the official site. Though, it's locked. I'll update you on the cost.

Whoo... It's a bit expensive. I thought that maybe I could afford it. It's about 1$ per chapter. Sigh.

Basically, you can subscribe to a novel for a set amount of coins that can get you advanced chapters.

For example I want Tier 5 VIP, then I spend about 5700 coins (57$) for 66 advanced chapters. This advanced 66 chapters would last you 1 month so you'll get the latest updates. It's a steal ngl. If you compare it to the rates of other TL groups such as those working on Everyone Else is a Returnee, you'd find that 8-15$ isn't a big deal. You have the tl, the proofreader, editor. If it had other payment options maybe I'd try to buy. I don't have a debit/credit card yet. Planning to do so when college starts.
