Chapter 910: First Encounter

When it came to observation, although Lumian was already a demigod, all his abilities were suppressed to the Sequence 7 level. He felt he wasn't as professional as a Spectator, so he gave the back seat position closest to the target building to Anthony. Lumian relied on his eagle-like vision from the Demoness pathway and a Hunter's sensitivity to visual clues to observe from afar.

In the front seat, Franca had finally managed to complete her parallel parking. She rested her elbow on the car door, watching the target area while secretly feeling proud. Jenna turned around, leaning forward and squeezing her head above Franca's shoulder, also watching intently.

As time passed minute by minute, Franca suddenly smelled the aroma of meat stewed with spices until tender.

She turned her head and saw Ludwig quietly munching on a meat sandwich in the far corner of the back seat.

"It hasn't been two hours since breakfast, right?" Franca blurted out.

Why is he eating again?

Lumian simply replied, "No, it hasn't."

"I'm thinking, is this his eating frequency and portion size in reality too…" Franca muttered.

She didn't have a direct understanding of how much Ludwig could eat before, only a financial concept. But in the days before entering the dream, she often helped Jenna supervise Ludwig's homework and test papers. The two Demonesses got to witness what it meant to be a Glutton, leaving an extremely deep impression.

Franca continued, "In the dream, aren't all special abilities limited to Sequence 7 level? But he doesn't seem to be eating any less…"

Hearing this, Lumian, Jenna, and Anthony's gazes suddenly turned to Ludwig.

Ludwig quickly stuffed the entire meat sandwich in his mouth and mumbled, "Because it's delicious!"

"You'd rather be stuffed than not eat?" Lumian raised an eyebrow.

"Mmhmm." Ludwig nodded vigorously.

Seeing Ludwig like this, Jenna couldn't help but laugh.

"It is really delicious."

Lumian thought for a moment and decided to indulge Ludwig for a couple of days, as he himself was eating more than usual.

"It's really good, isn't it?" Franca became proud again, "What I can't figure out is how none of you got diarrhea. Jenna and Anthony were even clamoring that it was spicy while eating!"

"My digestive system has endured the burning of flames, and Ascetic has strong resistance to extreme environments." Lumian indicated that spiciness was no trouble for a Hunter who liked self-harm like him.

"Swallowing a ball of fire" was an exaggeration for others, but for him it was an occasional objective description.

Anthony continued observing the entrance and exit of the building, calmly saying, "The Mythical Creature form of Spectator is a mind dragon."

Although there wasn't much improvement in combat abilities, one's physical toughness would significantly increase.

Just as Jenna was about to describe her feelings, Anthony and Lumian said in unison, "Mr. Fool is here."

Jenna hurriedly returned to her previous posture, turning her gaze to the dark-tinted car window.

She saw a young man wearing a black short-sleeved polo shirt, light-colored casual pants, and a pair of brownish sneakers. He was holding a cup of soy milk and carrying a bag of steamed buns, taking a few steps up the stairs towards the building.

This man had short black hair that was simply styled, deep brown eyes behind a pair of non-prescription glasses. His face was much thinner compared to the portrait in their files, with soft contours, giving him a somewhat handsome appearance.

He was precisely Lumian and the others' target, the dream image of Mr. Fool, Zhou Mingrui!

After Zhou Mingrui's figure disappeared into the building lobby, Franca took a breath and said, "Compared to the original sketch, Mr. Fool has lost quite a bit of weight and become a little better looking…

"Could the Major Arcana card holders' speculation be correct, that he was somehow misled by the Celestial Worthy into drinking the Assassin potion?

"Is the Celestial Worthy trying to use gender change to cause cognitive issues for Mr. Fool and thereby achieve victory?"

The Major Arcana card holders mentioned in the files that one of the most important phase goals for Lumian's team was to prevent Zhou Mingrui, who was suspected to have drunk the Assassin potion, from truly becoming a Witch!

"Does the Assassin potion also improve appearance?" Lumian asked Franca and Jenna.

He had switched from the Hunter pathway to the Demoness pathway and hadn't experienced the Assassin sequence in detail.

"It mainly adjusts body shape to make the user more suitable as an assassin, which brings about a slight change in appearance, but very little," Franca recalled. "Mr. Fool, uh, Zhou Mingrui probably succeeded in passive weight loss, becoming better looking mainly due to slimming down, and secondarily due to the minor improvements from the Assassin potion."

She felt it was better to refer to the target as Zhou Mingrui for now. Constantly using "Mr. Fool" made her nervous and afraid to discuss.

Lumian nodded and asked Anthony, "Did you notice anything?"

Anthony said, "Mr. Fool's steps up the stairs were very light, consistent with the description of the Assassin potion…

"Mr. Fool is wearing non-prescription glasses to conceal eyes that are no longer nearsighted, indicating he doesn't want to change his life in the short term and will continue working…

"Mr. Fool's emotional state seems good, he probably hasn't encountered any major incidents yet…

"Can't tell if he's taken the Instigator potion yet…"

After hearing Anthony's observations, Lumian thoughtfully said, "Continue observing and recording the people mentioned in our files and those showing certain abnormalities…"

"Okay," Jenna responded first, then pointed across the street. "That's Rozanne, in reality she's a civilian staff member of the Church of Evernight, married with children. In the dream, she's Zhou Mingrui's colleague. Currently uncertain if there's anything abnormal…"

Franca followed up, "That one wearing a white tailcoat with a bowtie and long silver hair in 30-degree heat is Vice President Wu from the company next to Zhou Mingrui's, suspected to be…"

At this point, Franca glanced sideways at Lumian and saw that his expression remained calm, his gaze not changing much.

Only then did she continue, "Suspected to be Ouroboros, the Angel of Fate of the Aurora Order, a king from ancient times."

According to their files, the company next to Mr. Fool's should be a projection of the Aurora Order in the dream.

Until 10 a.m., Lumian and the others finished their first round of observation, matching many people with the information in their files, but not discovering any truly suspicious individuals.

"Roselle Emperor, uh, CEO Huang didn't come," Franca said with some disappointment.

Roselle Emperor's image in the dream was the CEO of the Intis Group where Mr. Fool worked, a business tycoon, a domineering boss.

Before Lumian could respond, Franca chuckled to herself. "He's probably still in bed with some actress, streamer, or singer."

Lumian was also a bit disappointed, but there would be plenty of opportunities in the future.

He, who had never attended university, was already preparing to apply for a security guard position at the Intis Group.

"Now let's go buy clothes," Lumian said, looking down at his still normal shirt and trousers, then glancing at Jenna's blue waist-cinching long dress with classical charm.

At this point, Ludwig raised a question, "What's for lunch?"

Franca, currently responsible for the entire team's income, immediately said, "Who eats out every day?

"Later we'll go to a large supermarket and buy dozens of kilos of noodles and some side dishes. I'll cook noodles for you, all you can eat!"

As soon as she finished speaking, Franca saw the smile and anticipation disappear from Ludwig's face, replaced by a slightly aggrieved expression.

She felt no pity or guilt, but instead secretly patted her thigh.

Damn, I should have let Jenna say those two sentences! What a great opportunity to digest the Affliction potion!

After finalizing their itinerary, Franca carefully drove the car out onto the wide road.

Inside a large shopping mall.

Lumian and the others, with their appearance completely transformed, took the elevator from the underground parking lot to the first floor.

Franca looked at Jenna again, feeling that the simple combination of a white patterned T-shirt, light blue jeans, white sneakers, and ankle-length socks of the same color gave her a fresh and clean look. It retained a youthful, student-like air while adding a hint of natural allure in her glances, attracting the gaze of many passersby.

It's the type I used to like, no, still like! And Jenna with heavy makeup is another style altogether… Franca didn't hide her admiration.

Her tall stature and striking features made the ordinary black T-shirt and wide-leg pants look mature and confident, causing many people to only dare steal quick glances.

Lumian still wore a shirt with black pants, but with a more casual and relaxed feel. Walking together with the two Demonesses, they looked as beautiful as a painting.

Their clothes were all very cheap. Franca had given up on the bulk-priced ones and opted for the 10-yuan items, buying a lot.

Lumian's gaze swept every corner of the mall, feeling it was spacious, bright, and clean, even more impressive than the most luxurious department store in Trier.

Franca had no intention of letting Lumian, Jenna, Anthony, and Ludwig wander around here. She headed straight for the escalator going down to the basement, planning to enter the supermarket.

Money needs to be saved!

As soon as Lumian, Jenna, and Anthony arrived at the entrance of the supermarket, they were dazzled by the wide array of goods inside, the artistic displays, and the soft yet bright lighting.

Franca suddenly paused, instinctively turning her head towards Ludwig. She found the little boy's gaze already fixed, his eyes filled with burning desire.

"Let's go back!" Franca blurted out. "I'll buy the stuff online and have it delivered!"

In a place like a supermarket, kids simply can't control themselves!

Hearing Franca's words, Ludwig's expression immediately fell.

After learning the reason, Lumian and Jenna both agreed with Franca's decision.

Turning around and walking a few steps, Lumian's peripheral vision suddenly caught a figure.

The figure had their head slightly lowered, black hair hanging down, faintly revealing small and delicate ears.

She quickly disappeared into the depths of the supermarket.

Lumian suddenly stopped and said in a low voice to Franca, Jenna, and Anthony, "I may have seen that reanimated female corpse."

In place of Lumians team I'd be super unnerved by the fact that among the existences in the dream are a ton of ancient high level beings and they are supposed to figure out more about an above the sequences who is both enemy and friend. I'd be terrified. It's good that everyone is nerfed.

Also another though: wouldn't this dream be a prime opportunity to get inspiration for the real world. Technology and Socitety seem pretty in tact (maybe thanks to Kleins access to historical projections). Eg. Moon could utilize modern medicine to enhance the one in the current era. Maybe it's risky doing so bc of opening potential loop holes. And with the risks and Fool asleep, priorities lie elsewhere.
In face of the apocalypse those gains would be meaningless compared to regaining the Fool as LoM.

    (39) Chapter 923: Price

The surface of the self-proclaimed "Magic Mirror" Arrodes emitted rays of water-like light, as the surrounding darkness gradually became blurred.

One after another, words in the ancient Feysac language seemed to be sketched onto the mirror’s surface with drops of blood: "Beware of the night."

"Beware of the night?" Lumian repeated the answer while instinctively looking outside the "Dream Star Grocery."

At that moment, the sun shone brightly, reflecting golden light off many glass windows across the street, giving a sense of security and calm that subconsciously made one feel assured, though also slightly uncomfortable due to the heat.

Lumian quickly recalled the events of the past two nights and realized that neither night had been peaceful:

On the first evening, the Oracle Danitz's dream form was assassinated, and the body of the Demoness of Despair had been reanimated in the hospital morgue.

The next night, his group encountered the resurrected female corpse in the observation room, leading to a fierce battle that nearly resulted in a major incident involving explosives and biochemical toxins. Thankfully, the police had kept the details under wraps to avoid public panic, only conducting a secret investigation.

By comparison, nothing major had happened during the day, except for the resurrection of the Oracle`s body, which had entered the hospital morgue without causing much commotion.

Is the day relatively safe and the night more dangerous? During the day, Mr. Fool`s power prevails, but at night, consciousness of the Celestial Worthy becomes more active? Lumian simply analyzed the answer given by "Magic Mirror" Arrodes.

At this moment, the blood-red words on the mirror’s silver surface twisted and writhed to form new content:

"According to the principle of equality, it is now my turn to ask questions.

"If you answer incorrectly, lie, or refuse to answer, you will be punished."

Lumian nodded confidently, while Anthony remained silent.

On the mirror, new words began to form:

    "About your sister Aurore..."

Lumian's eyebrows twitched suddenly, but before he could react, the words on the mirror became blurry and reformed into new content:

"After you become a Demoness, what would you want a man to do to you?"

"Nothing," Lumian replied succinctly and firmly.

    No punishment appeared.

Lumian whispered to himself in confusion, "Such a simple question?"

First, the question was temporarily changed, and then it was followed by something that didn’t bother his conscience at all. How was this supposed to lead to social death?

The mirror’s surface shimmered with light, and a few more blood-red Feisac words appeared:

"For everyone who enters the dream, the great Arrodes is always very intimate!"

Ah, so this magic mirror is quite loyal... As Lumian finished his thoughts, he noticed that the words on the mirror had changed again:

"According to the principle of equality, it is now my turn to ask questions.

"If you answer incorrectly, lie, or refuse to answer, you will be punished."

Did that really count as a question? Lumian hadn’t expected his own words to turn into a question.

He hadn't forced "Magic Mirror" Arrodes to answer!

On the antique silver mirror, another bloodstained question appeared before Lumian's eyes:

"What does it feel like to wear women’s underwear?"

That certainly is intimate... Lumian replied expressionlessly:

"Restricting, a bit tight, not very comfortable, but it gives a sense of stability and security."

Considering that "Magic Mirror" Arrodes only answered the first question with "Beware of the night," Lumian doubted he would get much more useful information, so he decided to leave the antique silver mirror, with its black eye-like decorations on both sides, where it was.

He thoughtfully glanced toward the cashier and inquired about the shopkeeper:

    "How much for this mirror?"

If the price was reasonable, maybe he could buy it and keep it as a belonging of the Mr. Fool, hoping the magic mirror could provide crucial information at key moments.

The shopkeeper in the black dress finally lifted her head.

For some reason, Lumian felt that the sunlight outside had dimmed slightly, as if a large cloud had blown by.

The interior of the Dream Star Grocery became even darker.

Despite the dim environment, Lumian, with his "night vision" ability, could clearly see the shopkeeper's appearance.

Her eyes were a rare shade of jet black, her face exceptionally beautiful but somehow different from the locals.

The shopkeeper smiled and answered Lumian’s question: "5 million."

"How much?" Lumian blurted out, even Anthony showed a slight change in expression.

"5 million," the shopkeeper repeated the price.

Right now, I have to think carefully about even spending 50 notes, and you’re asking me 5 million... Lumian dismissed the idea of buying "Magic Mirror" Arrodes.

He knew the price was actually very reasonable. After all, this was a belonging of the great Arrodes, carried by the Mr. Fool. Its true value was definitely beyond 5 million, but it’s still fair for someone without money to grumble a bit.

With a resigned mindset, Lumian pointed at a brass-bound book:

    "And this one, how much?"

"9 million," the shopkeeper replied with a polite smile.

Lumian couldn't bring himself to ask any more questions.

The only thing he knew now was that the brass-bound book was worth even more than "Magic Mirror" Arrodes!

The shopkeeper added with a smile:

"In the shop, most of the items are antiques, and many are related to the occult, so they're not cheap. However, you can choose to rent them, with prices calculated by the day."

"Rent?" Lumian asked in surprise, pointing to the "Magic Mirror" Arrodes. "How much is it to rent for a day?"

"220,000." The shop owner's voice was as gentle as soft music.

220,000... That's not much different from spending 5 million to buy it. Either way, we can't afford it... Lumian grumbled to himself for a moment, then, relying on his rich dreamscape experiences and the Demonesse's intuitive sense, began to mutter softly:

"Accumulating 5 million to buy the magical mirror or accumulating 220,000 to rent it for a day, do both have symbolic meanings?"

The shop owner didn't seem to expect Lumian to either rent or buy. She lowered her head again and started playing on her phone.

Lumian indeed couldn't afford to rent or buy at the moment. Together with Anthony, he walked towards the entrance of the Dreaming Star Grocery.

After taking a few steps, he suddenly thought of something, quickly turned around, and asked:

"Has anyone rented the magical mirror before?"

The shop owner lifted her head again, revealing a slight smile on her beautiful face:

    "Yes."

    Lumian's pupils dilated slightly: "Who?"

Has someone really rented the "Magic Mirror" Arrodes in this dreamscape?

    What for?

The shop owner smiled faintly and replied:

"Protecting customers' privacy and secrets is part of my duty."

In Lumian's mind, thoughts flickered like lightning.

He didn't press further and left the Dreaming Star Grocery.

As they approached the parking spot, Lumian and Anthony noticed a foreign man with light brown hair squatting next to the gray car they had rented. He looked to the left, then to the right, and occasionally took a picture.

When the car owner returned, the foreign man slowly stood up.

He was about the same height as Lumian, with a pair of glasses on his nose, a light yellow beard on his face, and a muscular chest. His sturdy arms made his blue shirt strain at the seams, and he wore jeans faded to white. He had a black travel backpack slung over his shoulder.

"Why are you taking pictures of our car?" Lumian cautiously inquired.

He now had a habit of seeing symbolic meanings and identities in everyone he encountered in the dream.

    The foreign man replied:

"Such an old car is rare. It fills a gap in my knowledge."

"Knowledge?" Lumian asked, puzzled. Is this guy studying cars?

The foreign man smiled and said:

"I'm an international student, studying at a university here. I really like this city, and I like everything about it. So, when I have no classes, I carry my bag, take my phone, and wander around, taking pictures and recording all the details of this civilization."

"I see..." Lumian felt this guy was a bit strange but was still in the observation phase and didn't want too much contact with him.

At this moment, Anthony suddenly asked:

    "What's your name?"

The foreign man looked at Anthony, smiled, and replied:

    "Setiano.

    "And you?"

"Lý Minh," Lumian gave a fake name used in the dreamscape city.

    Anthony also introduced himself: "Anred."

After chatting a bit more, Setiano, the foreign man, continued to wander around aimlessly with his bag and phone.

In the car, Lumian fastened his seatbelt and looked at Anthony:

"Why did you ask for his name?"

    Anthony rarely acted so proactively.

Anthony thought for a moment and said:

"He gave me a strange sense of familiarity.

"We'll use hypnosis to ask our subconscious later and see where this feeling of familiarity comes from."

Lumian nodded and started the car. Halfway through the drive, Anthony suddenly ended the hypnosis and said to Lumian:

"I found the source of that familiar feeling. Every time I enter a Steam Church cathedral, I have a similar feeling."

He was originally a follower of the Steam Church.

"A high-ranking figure from the Steam Church manifesting in the dreamscape?" Although Lumian had disguised himself as a Steam Church follower, he had rarely entered their cathedrals, so he didn't share Anthony's feelings.

    "Maybe." Anthony wasn't very sure.

    ***

    Noon, inside the rented room.

Lumian said to Franca, who was helping Jenna prepare for lunch:

"This afternoon, you and Anthony take Ludwig to the real-life site of the Dream School for a closer look. I'll stay home and take care of Franca.

"Based on the information provided by the Major Arcana cards, Mr. Fool also mentioned this school. This is one of the best shortcuts we have to naturally and normally come into contact with Mr. Fool.

"Moreover, we can observe the impact of the Oracle death incident on this school."

"Okay." It was Franca who responded, "The Oracle is an adult man. It's strange that he was reported missing just because he didn't return for one night."

Jenna thought for a moment and said:

"Maybe Mr. Fool's subconscious thinks this is urgent."

"There might be other reasons too." Lumian glanced at Ludwig, whose expression had changed upon hearing about the school, and said, "Jenna will be responsible for interacting and probing, Anthony will observe. I'll leave this to you."

    (38) Chapter 922: News

    Inside the rented room.

Jenna finished tidying up the table, picking up the soybean milk and buns that Franca had left behind. She spoke to Ludwig, who was sitting beside her:

    "You can study now."

Ludwig’s expression shifted a few times, and he argued, somewhat reluctantly:

"What good will studying do for me?"

"You think gaining knowledge means becoming a scientist. If you want to gain power, become a transcendent being!"

    Jenna smiled lightly and said:

"Studying might not be important to you, but having you study is crucial for us."

Jenna's straightforwardness left Ludwig, who was usually tongue-tied, at a loss for words.

After a moment of thought, Jenna added:

"Although we don’t know the specifics of what happened, you might have forgotten, but back then, the fact that you were sealed by the Church of the God of Knowledge and Wisdom is as solid as steel. The biggest difference between you and the clerics of the Church of the God of Knowledge and Wisdom is your attitude towards studying!"

Ludwig was somewhat confused by her words, but, unwillingly and with no other choice, he sat down at the table and opened a textbook.

Jenna returned to the main bedroom, casually closing the door behind her.

Franca struggled to sit up, propped a pillow behind her, and whispered:

"You’re trying to influence Ludwig again. Wanting to defeat the Church of the God of Knowledge and Wisdom by studying is like competing against them on their home turf, using the rules they’re best at. How can you win that way? The best approach is still to play to your strengths.

"Hehe, Demonesses are indeed good at deception.

Many Demonesses have deceived others’ emotions to digest the 'Afflictions' potion, and among them, some even fell for their own tricks, ultimately having to separate painfully, making themselves suffer as well."

    Jenna chuckled:

"Anyway, I have to give him a reason, and he’s just looking for a reason."

Jenna paused, contemplating as she continued:

"Moreover, I feel that studying is still beneficial for Ludwig. You saw him during the fight last night. That appearance of his was completely monstrous, but the details of our daily interactions make me feel that apart from his insatiable hunger, he’s just an ordinary little boy.

"This is partly due to the Knowledge Church’s seal, but also because of the changes brought by his learning of rules, ethics, and basic human knowledge."

As she spoke, Jenna brought the cup of fake soybean milk to Franca’s lips, allowing her to take a sip. Then, she handed over the bun, watching as Franca bit into the filling.

Franca had never experienced such treatment before, and she suddenly felt a sense of pride.

    She nodded thoughtfully:

"You mean, studying is one of the ways for Ludwig to integrate into human society, to develop some humanity?"

"Yes." Jenna, while feeding Franca breakfast, casually chatted with her. In the end, she even used a damp cloth to clean Franca's mouth and wash her face.

After finishing these tasks, Jenna took out the trash from the main bedroom.

A few busy seconds later, she sat down next to Ludwig, as if supervising a child’s study session.

After a while, she took out two packages from the Traveler’s Bag and placed them on the table.

They were two crudely packed packets of burnt rice.

Ludwig looked at them in surprise as Jenna smiled and said:

"If you can pass my test in a bit, they’ll be yours.

"Do you prefer spicy or original flavor?"

"I like both!" Ludwig buried his head again, his eyes unusually focused.

"I prefer the original." Jenna tore open the package and put two pieces into her mouth, chewing and savoring them.

Ludwig glanced at her, mouth open, his expression bewildered.

    "Aren’t those my reward?"

"I’ll eat a bit before you finish studying. Don’t worry, I’ll save some for you." Jenna smiled.

Franca, lying on the bed in the main bedroom, couldn’t help but laugh at their conversation.

She suddenly realized that although Jenna usually appeared very mature, she was actually just a young woman who had recently graduated from college. It was completely normal for a girl like her to enjoy snacks, and now she finally had the opportunity to indulge.

Franca’s smile gradually softened, while the living room outside echoed with a new conversation:

"This is jade rice porridge-flavored puffed food.

    "This is cucumber-flavored potato chips.

    "This is chocolate wafer biscuits.

    ...

"There aren’t many of these snacks, because they aren’t the main meal, but they’re all prepared for you, as a reward for studying hard and doing well in the tests."

"Hey, eat a bit less! I’ll do my best!"

Franca, leaning against the pillow, slowly felt a strange sensation:

It’s like I’m the father recovering from an illness, and outside is the snack-loving, study-hating child with the mother supervising the child’s homework.

If you ignore the part where "even a corpse's fingers are your reward today," the daily life of this family is really warm and beautiful.

    ...

    Beep! Beep! Beep!

The sound of horns incessantly blared behind and beside the gray car, urging Lumian to move faster, but Lumian remained calm, completely ignoring the surrounding noise, allowing the car to proceed steadily along the slowest lane.

    New driver, safety first!

Anthony, sitting in the passenger seat, was busy scrolling through his phone, occasionally glancing at the local news.

"What are you looking for?" Lumian glanced at his companion from the corner of his eye.

Anthony wasn’t yet at the stage of being obsessed with the internet, after all, he had only just learned how to get online.

Anthony tilted his head and solemnly said:

"I also feel that during last night’s battle, there were a few details that, the more I think about them, the less they make sense."

"For example?" Lumian focused on driving. Anthony considered and then spoke:

"The second self-destructing security guard appeared before the explosion.

His condition was very similar to Marionettist, even if it was a self-destruction."

"Puppet and body position exchange ability? Are you suspecting that there was indeed a Demigod-level Puppet Master present at the scene to assist the Puppet of the Celestial Worthy?" Lumian clearly understood Anthony's point. "But we paid attention to everything within several dozen meters and didn't find any traces. Could it be that this Demigod-level Puppet Master was in a state where we couldn't see, hear, or touch them?"

"This is the most terrifying point. Moreover, if such a Puppet Master existed, why didn’t they resurrect the female corpse afterward? And why didn't they spread our appearance, situation, or specific imagery afterward?" Anthony once again focused his gaze on his mobile phone.

    Lumian slowly nodded and said:

"Are you checking last night’s news reports and your own theories to see if there’s any leaked information?"

"Yes." Anthony’s fingers kept moving on the screen. "Currently, the circulating narrative is that an internal conflict led to one of the security guards causing the explosion, killing his colleague and himself..."

Before Anthony could finish his sentence, he suddenly stopped, slightly furrowing his brow:

"I just saw a strange local news report. Early this morning, near the moonlit Commerce City’s garbage dump, a lunatic was found. He was completely irrational and incapable of communication, and was later taken to the hospital for treatment."

"A lunatic near the store? Which hospital was he taken to?" Lumian also sensed the strangeness of the news and asked with sensitivity. "Could this lunatic be the Marionettist who concealed himself last night?"

"Did something happen to him, preventing him from joining the battle afterward?"

"What happened? Why did it happen?"

"The news didn't specify." Anthony continued scrolling through related reports.

Lumian maintained the car's speed, and after another ten minutes, they reached their destination.

After finding a parking spot and with some difficulty parking the car, he and Anthony walked towards the corner of the street where the “Dream Star Grocery Store” was located.

The store had no lights on and was narrow and dim inside. As Lumian looked in, it felt as though he had entered nighttime from morning.

He observed the strange items displayed on both sides of the tall shelves and walked towards the counter at the far end.

Behind the counter stood a woman in a black dress. She leaned against a wooden cabinet, head down, playing on her phone, and in front of her was a tablet playing a TV series.

Lumian politely said, "Hello, I’d like to send a letter."

He was unexpectedly saying this in a grocery store.

The woman in the black dress, still looking at her phone, didn’t find this strange and asked without raising her head:

"Where are you sending it, and to whom?"

"To the Quiet Cathedral, addressed to Senior Deacon Leonard Mitchell." Lumian took out the Major Arcana card letter.

The woman in the black dress continued to focus on her phone, her voice gentle and calm:

"On the right-hand side, the third shelf has a silver-black mailbox. Just put the letter in there.

"Come back tomorrow for a response."

"Thank you." Lumian quietly breathed a sigh of relief and headed towards the shelf.

He quickly found that it wasn’t a toy mailbox but a brass-bound book and a silver mirror with black pupils on both sides.

Lumian swiftly scanned the shelf, finding items like a classical quill, various strange dice, and other oddities. If it weren’t for the shopkeeper playing on her phone and watching the tablet, he might have believed he was back in the real world, back in Trier.

These items’ styles didn’t quite match the urban dreamscape, resembling things from the Northern Continent more!

After placing the letter into the silver-black mailbox, Lumian turned and asked the shopkeeper:

"Can I look at the items here?" The shopkeeper’s voice carried a hint of amusement:

    "They’re all for sale."

For sale? As a Demoness, Lumian picked up the intricately designed silver mirror with black gems on both sides.

In the mirror, Lumian's face quickly appeared:

Pale blue eyes, clear and quiet, a slightly gaunt face, almost perfect, lips neither too thick nor too thin, with a faint, smooth sheen, exuding a subtle glow.

    This was his female form.

It directly reflected my Demoness state... This mirror indeed has mystical properties... As Lumian had this thought, the mirror's surface shimmered, outlining rows of blood-red Feysac words:

"I am the great Arrodes. I can answer your questions, but you must also answer an equal number of questions for me. At least five people must witness it.

"If you refuse to answer or lie, you will be punished."

Arrodes, the great Arrodes? Lumian knew that name.

Franca had mentioned it before; this was the Fool's enchanted mirror, known for giving the most accurate answers, but each question would cause the seer to experience social death.

The Fool's enchanted mirror exists in this dreamscape grocery store? What does this imply? What does it symbolize? Lumian couldn’t help but glance again at the shopkeeper, the woman in the black dress playing on her phone.

After a brief pause, Lumian calmly asked:

"My question is, in the matter of awakening the Fool, is there anything you want to remind me of?"

Rather, on the contrary, she snuck into the Fool's dream to solve her problems. As we have seen in the past, dreams are hyper-realistic and tend to manifest in reality. So it probably does something with the uniqueness and characteristics of the neighboring paths, and restores humanity. In short, she is really on vacation, heh

    (37) Chapter 921: The Scripted Character

The ethereal voice of the pale-faced female corpse echoed faintly:

"Create a good identity, go through the Intis Group interview, and become an employee of this company alongside Zhou Mingrui.

"Every day, interact with Zhou Mingrui. At first, be polite and calm, then gradually become more familiar. During regular interactions, slowly and subtly charm him until he falls in love with me.

"I will become his girlfriend, and in the future, I will marry him, no matter the circumstances—whether in prosperity or adversity, in wealth or poverty, in health or sickness, whether he is male or female—I will accompany him, never leaving, forever and ever.

Franca, with her ailing body, heard this and slowly began to feel confused:

Is there something wrong with this script?

Isn't this supposed to be about urban supernatural abilities or mysterious horror? Why has it turned into a pure romance novel?

Is this meant to immerse Mr. Fool in the sweet happiness of love and the calm warmth of urban life, making him unwilling to wake up?

Celestial Worthy, are you really this simple?

Is this a large-scale world of Celestial Worthy for Mr. Fool, separating him from reality?

As Franca heard the phrase "whether he is male or female," she suddenly snapped out of it.

    There's a plot here!

There's something strange, with a hidden agenda!

Lumian had similar thoughts as Franca, but his mind wasn't as vivid. He was more concerned about another point:

The mission of the resurrected female corpse didn't involve instructing The Fool to drink the Witche`s potion. Does this mean someone else is responsible for making The Fool a Witch?

    At this moment, Franca whispered:

"The script's method seems to really have the potential to influence The Fool. For someone as cautious as Zhou Mingrui, the only approach is through 'love that grows over time,' by gradually building trust and connection through genuine, everyday interactions.

"And for such a task, the most suitable person to execute it is a Demoness, followed by a Baby Cupid. No wonder they wanted to resurrect or awaken this female corpse. 'Charm' can be subtly woven into daily life without being noticed.

"Indeed, according to Lady Susie's reminder, it seems we can only gain The Fool trust through a similar method, but without using 'Charm,' as the risk of exposure would be too great." Jenna thoughtfully echoed.

Long-term, repeated contact with The Fool would easily alert the Celestial Worthy to something unusual.

Lumian didn't respond to Franca and Jenna. He had to seize the time for the Spirit Communication.

He glanced at the floating female corpse's phantom and considered asking:

    "Are you a Puppet?"

Lumian had not experienced fighting the female corpse's main body. With two ticking time bombs of illness, and with Franca's team discussing the Marionettist, he hadn't investigated the surrounding area within a 30-40 meter radius. It wasn't until he was driving back and discussing the battle details with his teammates that he realized the possibility of a Puppet.

However, not actively investigating the surrounding 30-40 meter radius didn't mean he wasn't cautious about other potential enemies. As a Hunter, basic vigilance was second nature, but he had not detected anyone hiding nearby.

This made him uncertain about Franca's group's suspicions. Their doubts might not be accurate, just as the resurrected female corpse had no shortcut to bestow grace.

The ghostly voice of the female corpse with disheveled black hair answered hollowly:

    "Yes."

Is it? Is it really a Puppet? Lumian was both surprised and hurriedly asked:

"Who is controlling you? Where are they?"

This time, the ghostly figure of the female corpse did not answer. Instead, she slowly raised her head, looking towards the void of darkness beyond the glass.

Lumian's group might have been influenced by the remnants of her spirit or perhaps stimulated by the shift in the mystical atmosphere her action brought. They began to experience a faint illusion.

Amidst the haze, they seemed to see ethereal, densely packed threads emerging from the female corpse, extending upwards. At the same time, similar ethereal threads appeared around their own bodies, also stretching towards the dark void above.

They also seemed to see the people within the city, observing as they too sprouted countless, densely packed threads, connecting to some place in the dark, cloudy night sky.

Lumian's body and mind were shaken by this sight, but his Hunter's keen observational skills allowed him to notice one detail.

The ethereal threads emerging from their bodies differed from those of the female corpse in one distinct way:

Their threads drifted lightly, as if merely attracted by something high above, leaning towards it without actually penetrating the darkness, while the female corpse's threads were taut, seemingly merging with the unseen darkness.

As for the other people in the city, Lumian only vaguely sensed their existence, unable to see clearly.

Combining the information provided by the Major Arcana cards regarding The Fool`s pathway, Lumian, Franca, Jenna, and Anthony made a quick judgment:

The height represents The Fool, and it also represents the Celestial Worthy, who resurrected the female corpse as his Puppet!

"No wonder we didn't detect the Marionettist. Jenna had just thought of this when she quickly realized a problem, "Wait! If this is true, if we had directly confronted the Puppet of Celestial Worthy, we would have been locked onto by the Celestial Worthy, thrown out of the dreamscape, and if not thrown out, we would have started facing severe restrictions."

As her thoughts turned, Jenna considered a possibility:

"The Celestial Worthy might also be in a deep sleep, mostly in a dazed state, unconsciously controlling the Puppet. Only when stimulated or when the Puppet actively reports would he be aware of the situation.

"But can an unconscious Puppet control exhibit such behavior? Unless they were exceptionally focused on dealing with us, the resurrected female corpse would be no different from a living person..."

At this moment, the ghostly figure of the female corpse began to fade, on the verge of disappearing.

The "Spirit Communication" was about to end.

Lumian seized the last bit of time, urgently asking:

    "Who gave you your humanity?"

Jenna immediately understood after hearing it, realizing that Lumian had the same thoughts as her.

He was also very concerned about the resurrection of the female corpse or, more precisely, the humanization of the Puppet!

The face of the pale female corpse's image became increasingly faint, leaving only a hollow voice echoing:

"Yes, Mr. Fool and the Great Mother..."

"Huh?" Franca, in her weakened state, couldn't help but lower her guard, exclaiming in surprise.

This sounds like Mr. Fool and the Great Mother gave birth to her in the same way...

Lumian finished the seance, turned around, and thoughtfully said to his companions:

"I think I roughly understand the meaning of that last sentence. She must have once encountered Mr. Fool or one of his incarnations, she was the Demoness of Despair. Mr. Fool subconsciously wove her identity, appearance, and personality based on the images in his memory. With the Great Mother awakening, or rather, giving new birth, she naturally gained humanity, becoming a special Puppet capable of autonomous action according to the assigned mission."

"Was the corpse of the Oracle brought to the morgue at MushTu Hospital to create a similar Puppet?

"Does the MushTu Hospital not only have Mother Tree but also the presence of the Great Mother?"

"I told you!" Franca, initially intending to slap the table, lacked the strength to raise her hand afterward, "The MushTu Hospital likely also has the forces of the Order of All Extinction."

Lumian directed his gaze toward the shattered yet stunning female corpse, observed for a few seconds, and said:

"There's no Door path's blessing power dissipating, nor is there any sign of decayed blessings dispersing..."

"Not sure what to do... In the battle, she indeed didn't display any corresponding abilities. Were those two disease bombs created in advance using some kind of tool? Unfortunately, there wasn't time to ask about one of the disease bombs' Puppet-like manifestation." Franca became even more fearful of the MushTu Hospital.

She dared not imagine what might have happened if Lumian had entered the underground level of the MushTu Hospital earlier!

Lumian searched the corpse but found nothing else, so he stood up and said to Ludwig:

"If you promise to obediently listen to Jenna from now on, this corpse is yours!"

"Alright, I promise!" Ludwig responded with a face showing no concern for the future consequences.

Lumian's actual goal was to destroy the evidence since this was the Puppet of Celestial Worthy. It was crucial to completely destroy the corpse before His interrupted awakening resumed, leaving no trace to avoid attracting unwanted attention or mutations.

Seeing Ludwig rush toward the female corpse, Jenna supported Franca as they quickly exited the glass-covered area and returned to the rented room with Anthony.

Standing beside Ludwig, Lumian asked calmly:

"If this corpse is real, can you restore your rank 4 list after consuming it?"

"No, unless you give me the other corpse as well." Ludwig looked longingly at Lumian.

He had only recently received a new arm from Voisin Sanson's corpse because he had performed well in his studies, exams, and assignments two days prior. So, before entering the dream, he had fully recovered his sequence 5 "Depriver" status.

Lumian ignored Ludwig's hopes and instead asked:

"What's your sequence 4 list called?"

Ludwig began gnawing on the arm, mumbling:

    "Sea Monster."

The next morning, Franca discovered that her illness had not yet improved. Her forehead was feverish, her body weak, and she could barely get out of bed.

She used the simplest divination method with a magical mirror to confirm that it was merely lingering negative effects that would last another half day, and not that the healing medicine hadn't taken effect. She then said to Jenna:

"We'll take turns. You take care of her and Ludwig in the morning, and I'll take the afternoon shift. Right now, I'll drive with Anthony to contact the Major Arcana cards."

"Alright." Jenna, who had also been contaminated last night, needed more rest as well.

Going downstairs and getting into the car, Lumian, following Franca's lead, placed his phone on the specially purchased holder and opened the map app.

He then entered the destination using voice input while Anthony watched closely:

    "Dreaming Sundries Store."
