      When encountering strong ruthless pragmatic opponent - risk of close ones used as hostages or for obtaining information about weaknesses is high, especially if in possession of treasure of high value with no strength to protect himself from dying and losing all.

          Untrue, there is literally tribe next door that gladly would hunt his tribe and him in it to extinction.

          And having any sort of power enabling and widely known about knowledge would make him the target for anyone stronger than him that wants to become even more stronger and have no moral need to cajole some weakling.
