    Ok, so he wrote 2M+ names and causes of death (easily 4M+ words) in an unspecified but had to have been a short timeframe while under the stipulation that the name bearer had to be in his sense range which is unlikely to be far as the length of the whole city. This makes no sense >.<

          He should have absorbed some souls, and when he saw that he couldn't absorb any more, then he would destroy the rest.

      My man, the answer for why, is in the chapter.
      He didn't opt to absorb their deceased souls lest he gets caught.

      If he tried to absorb 2M souls, it would definitely make a massive commotion which could easily expose him. The only reason he didn’t get caught, is them never seeing a similar power and him being so careful.
