      What does dieing have to do with it?
      First of all it depends on the stregth of the gu and the master. If a rank 6 broke it they would probably die. He is just a really strong rank 7 and he almosg died.

      Death is not the only negative consequenz you can have. And except for that it doesn't get that much worse for an immortal.
      So unless there life is at stake, like here, they will not revieale it. And in that case the people who could kill the person could also just soul search them in most cases having the same Effekt.
      So not dying doesn't really make that much of difference.
