it maked absolutly no sence for him to fight this match. he is planing on leaving anyway and there is absolutly no use in his position in the arena. he gambels a 40% chance to lose his second most important gu for absolutly no gain. that is just stupid. but well he also didnt just sell randome recapies to make infinit money and get basicly infinit recorces... so aperiently he is not concerend about making sencabile decisions if it can stretch this arc...

Remember that each participant has the right to make a challenge that cannot be rejected, he could not simply not fight, it was something mandatory ¯ \ _ (ツ) _ / ¯

that is true as long as you stay in the arena. but he is retiring. he could just leave beforehand. it was even specifically mentioned bevor that you can only avoided forced challenged by leaving and then would have to start from 0 again if you decide to participate again. but even without this being specifically mentioned this is kinda obvious. if he is not part of the arena he obviously cant be challenged.

I didn't remember that you can avoid a forced challenge by withdrawing from the arena, my bad. However, if MC really withdraws from the arena, he would not fit in with the "character" that he has created in the Shang clan.

This is probably related to helping Shang Xin Ci become a young clan leader candidate then future clan leader.

he can only admit his defeat which in turn force him to hand his Gu which is bad he can't just say "well I ain't doing this anymore" when he doesn't want to it ain't how forced challenge work and unless the author say otherwise it stays like this it ain't a guessing game
and also he came to the arena to fight and practice more before he leave why would he not fight did you forget already his poem and what he said back then? about how he would reach rank 9 or more if he can't defeat these kids in the arena
so yeah this fight is reasonable

can you read? because if you had read my comment you would know that the author DID say you can leave any time. you just lose your arena progress. anything else also wouldn't make any sense.
Also he clearly showed multipel times that he is not one of these default hero who fight at all cost for no reason. He takes fights that are a risk only if there is a reward for him. and here there latterly is non. the only thing he would lose is his reputation and that is completely useless to him.

In this novel aside from strength nothing matters. If you are powerful then you are rightful. Also up to now our MC solved everything with powers. All mind f#ckery games of him became useless in the end.

I think he needs to gain reputation inorder to help Shang Xin Ci get the position.
                  Its as simple as that.

I'm pretty sure he gains more money depending on the amount of viewers.
He'll literally get a fortune from this.
He has 60% chance of winning.
And he keeps the reputation, which could be useful in the future when dealing with the Shang clan. Or even minor clans like Bai clan. A deterrent force.

Overall, the gains should outweigh the losses by at least a little.
And even if it didn't, FY is a demonic Gu Master. He'll risk heavy losses even with a low chance of success.

You are right bro. There are just many stupid comments here and people just blindly agree with every decision of MC. Just from Tie clan we can see that author is not much good in writing the "Why" part of events.

Absolutely no gain? he need a gu Djin mind or smth + he need the reputation cuz as we know he wanna help the(totally can't recall her name) to get the young master position and since taking the circumstances he want to do it at the open so a good reputation will help other than that it is for his own desire to beat whoever face him(if there is a 10% he will absolutely try)+ he will quit this arena bs and with the fame he gained the next couple of days he become the hottest news which helped at gathering attentions for that (totally forgot her name)... but what you said weren't really false tho... yeah he ain't pursuing reputation and wealth but they are ways to his true goal :)

as far as i remeber he steels the gu he needs. and as he left directly after his reputation is useless to her. not to mention she is already established now and doesn't really need him anymore. and she clever enogth to capitalise on that.

what ? bro what you mean by she is already established? read the first chapter after the fight
Soon after, a few days later, Fang Yuan announced in public, he was going to assist Shang Xin Ci and help her ascend to the position of young master.

Immediately, everyone's attention shifted from the battle stage to the young master competition.

"I heard long ago, this Fang Zheng is loyal and righteous. He had his life principles, repaying a drop of water received in need with a spring, and exacting revenge for hatred a hundred times over. He truly is responsible." Someone praised him.

"In order to assist Shang Xin Ci to attain the position of young master, he even gave up the identity of external clan elder that was in sight. This is truly…" Some people could not understand.

Forget these details, but Fang and Bai's change in position did successfully make Shang Xin Ci the center of attention.

and she at this point was still a nobody without any business yet the next chapter after this is where things started

He's not risking anything, XIN Ci dad won't let that happen because he wants him to be XIN CI good dog so it won't be any good if he loose any gu that is detriment to him (let's not even talk about dying...)
