        It's a moot point because he never actually tests it, so it's not as if we readers can know if it would work. But I'm fairly confident the majority of attacks would not get to him, or at least not at full capacity. Most would get reflected, dispersed, or outright nullified. Balls, when clumped together, form a lattice shape that leave very few and very small gaps.
