      Some people just plain despise those who are better than them in some regard. The others on the other hand are just sceptical. It's easy to get lost when trying to do a "greater good", because humans' isolated perspectives are imperfect and unfit for systematic "justice". A lone hero running around and "making the world better" is easy to either manipulate for your benefit or it is easy for them to be driven mad when met with difficult moral grey structure of the world.

      Morals today are mostly used for manipulation and virtue signaling though. Talking about good deeds and actually doing them are two different things. I personally despise those who call themselves heroes and operate from a position of higher moral ground. Because people who point their own superiority out are just using it as a weapon and don't really pursue these ideals wholeheartedly. If you can't see the difference between the two and rely on superficial vision, then you are not the sharpest tool in the shed. Oh, it's all relative anyway
