          Reverend insanity is so so different from this novel... The only thing remotely similar has gotta be the big payoffs at the end of the volumes, other than that I doubt many people who enjoy LoTM will be able to enjoy RI....

              Not really? I feel like it has way too many useless discussions regarding the weather and a slower pace throughout the 400+ chapters I read through... Most cultivation novel's writing style isn't really my cup of tea and there are many novels out there with a wonderful writing style but not that great of a story.

              I totally understand where the appeal for RI comes from and everyone should at least give it a try once but all 3 of the top novels (LoTM, RI, TLM) have different styles (plot, pace, and writing-wise) which people may not like...

              imo the novel with the best 'writing style' has gotta be 'SSS-class suicide hunter'...

                fair enough, every book is different in their own way, but if we were to rate those 3 out of a score of ten, they'd be pretty damn close, or even have equal scores.

              The issue is that writing quality isn't possibly to judge quite accurately. If you dislike the main character, your opinion of the writing will be affected, similarly if you like him then you might like the writing more. I find Klein incredibly likeable as a character, whereas with Fang Yuan, he's a villain. You can spin that as "he sees the world as a game", but frankly, I wouldn't kill infants in a game either. He's somewhat of a psychopath.

              Now you (and anyone) can like that, no problemo, but a lot of people don't. That doesn't apply to Klein, most people will like him. He's not a hero of justice, nor is he a villain. He's just a normal dude trying to work with the crazy world around him. This is the reason that Reverend Insanity will never quite reach the level of Lord of Mysteries in terms of fandom, and thereby rating. Even if in terms of other factors, it may be on par.

              I also have my issues with some of RIs plot elements, but it wouldn't be fair to share them because I'm biased against Fang Yuan so I can't guarantee being objective.

    Quite an introduction! I like the clear, stylish yet concise way of writing; partly to thank for the author, and another part for the obvious excellent translation. I'm not sure if 'this' will keep up, but it is certainly a most excellent start.
