    Wait a minute, if all this was going to be done in the open with his progression being exposed for everyone to see, why did MC avoid a better cultivation method? The only things I can think of is either the better cultivation technique would have made his progression even more abnormal and faster, or maybe in choosing a better cultivation method, he might have not given enough face to the elder that would have inevitably told him to choose another one, thereby making that elder kill him later?

      While I will say a good technique is king but a compatible technique is god. No reason to pick a technique that is above your level in the beginning of you had the test they had that literally shows the techniques you are most compatible with. But then again it's only my personal belief.
