A top-secret experimental explosion transports Xiao Ming to a parallel world resembling ancient times.

In this hostile land, he is the most unfavored prince, given the most barren fiefdom.

Fortunately, however, a mysterious item from the experiment—the Technology Crystal—comes with him, granting him the ability to upgrade a technology tree.

Thus, he begins a leisurely life in his fief, farming and developing industry.

In the face of his unfriendly brothers and sisters, he has always followed the motto- friends come and get wine, jackals come and get shotguns. Collapse

dropped it around chapter 200. this is one of the good kingdom building out there. But the ccp bullshit ruined it and it broke my immersion. Like bro why would you use words like Korea Japan as the enemy country names in a fantasy settings

Chinese nationalistic wish fulfillment- the novel.

If this bothers you, don't read it. It's literally smocked with nationalistic propaganda and anti-west racism. Using CCP alcohol goggles as worldview.

I read this bullshit because I like Kingdom Building and treat the nationalism as the fantasy it is.

It's quite mediocre though, so read it if you've run out of alternatives. (MTL CH. 1034 at the time of writing)

**THIS CONTAINS MINOR SPOILERS IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND THE NOVEL**

Just wanted to let everyone know that the novel isn't about being morally right or ethically pleasing. It's a story of conquest and leadership. Yes there will be slaves and the author makes it clear of the reasons as to why the mc needs them. Yes there is nationalism, since y'know it's a history inspired novel. Most ruling powers in conquest were doing it for themselves and their nation, how can they be NOT nationalists? The mc is not only having problems with foreign powers he also deals with his own country men. The author writes about how his own people brought about their corruption and defeat in history. So the story is critical to both foreign powers and his own country. War crimes? Yes, and the author makes sure everyone knows of this and makes it clear. This is how ruling powers rise through the peak.

Once again I advise readers not to read this in perspective of being morally right and ethics. Read this in the eyes of a leader. What would he do in dark times of war?

Pretty good so far but most recent chapters suggest he's going to start voyages across the globe for resources. Knowing how the Chinese feel about other races/ethnicities means this might go downhill pretty fast. (Not interested in seeing him enslave all of africa, America, india, etc.) let's see what he does :/

I read up to chapters 200+. I am disappointed in the author. Incitement of interethnic hatred is illegal even for China. But they continue to break the law in their works.

Iron Dynasty – Or, How to Build an Empire One Righteous Contradiction at a Time

From the weary desk of a man who’s read over 950 chapters, let me open with this: Iron Dynasty is a masterclass in contradiction. It is, by all measures, a top-tier kingdom-building novel—for those willing to wade knee-deep through vats of nationalistic brine, historical fantasizing, and moral dissonance that occasionally makes you stare at your screen in disbelief.

    The Good?
World-building and technological progression are surprisingly competent. If Release That Witch had an older, more jaded cousin who majored in industrial revolution and dreamed of divine bureaucracy, this would be it. From forging gunpowder empires to organizing peasant revolts in highly mechanized fashion, the novel offers plenty of steel-pumping satisfaction.

    The Problem?
It wears its nationalism like ceremonial robes: gaudy, proud, and unfortunately see-through. The MC rages against colonialism... while enacting his own brand of conquest, slave labor, and cheerful subjugation of neighboring lands. The irony isn’t even subtle—it’s weaponized. His technological leapfrogging is impressive, yes, but so is the self-congratulatory smirk he wears while looking down on the very European advances he copies wholesale.

    You like nuance? Turn around.
Enemy nations are depicted with the grace of propaganda leaflets—morally bankrupt, irrational, and cartoonishly evil. And yet, the MC is allowed to commit the exact same sins with divine justification. Children, elders, the weak? Collateral. But hey, it’s for the “glory of the Middle Kingdom.” The harem politics, the vigilante nobility-hate, and the overreliance on tropes like “let’s invent soap and sell it to nobles” only make it feel more artificial with time.

And don't get me started on the tech tree: Why stop at flintlocks when you’ve got the machines to make bolt-action rifles? The author deliberately throttles progress, not for narrative logic, but because even he knows the empire would win too fast otherwise.

    Characterization? Sparse.
Everyone serves the plot. The MC’s past life is treated like a Wikipedia footnote, and his motivations? Thin. Supporting cast? Functional. Emotional stakes? Low. The story marches forward like a steam engine fueled by convenience and patriotic gas.

But despite all that, it’s addictively readable.
Because in the end, this isn’t really a novel. It’s a projection. A what-if fantasy soaked in 1700s nostalgia, written for those who want to reforge history into something more glorious, more victorious… and with better cannon range.

Conclusion: If you want Release That Witch, but the witch wears a Qing-era dragon robe and annexes Vietnam on the weekends—this is your book. Just know what you’re getting into.

Brother, for once I set aside the roleplaying stuff, and still—this? 😅 If I use style, it’s AI. If I write plainly, it’s AI. At this point, maybe I am AI in you guy's eyes. Either way, the review was mine, typed by these very human fingers after 900+ chapters. Read or ignore, but come on—let’s not turn every review into a Turing test. In the end its frustrating you know.

    Absolute cinema!

The story development for me isn't to slow nor is it too quick, just the right pace. Each part of their progression is essential and definitely adds shine to their advancements. 5/5

The writing quality is terrific! For a Chinese novel you'd expect to have glazing dialogues left and right but no. Any glazing dialogues and unnecessary chatters are kept minimum. Which I really like since many authors tend to add dumb ahh dialogues to meet their word counts. 4/5

World background is simple but immersive (inspiration from history). In the early chapters they're still in one empire but maybe in the later chapters they'll explore more (I haven't read that far yet). 4/5

Character design is done just right! From a flawed and lacking nerd to a competent, skilled and merciless ruler. The side characters are also contributing to the story just as well. Everyone has their own weight to carry which is very refreshing compared to novels where the mc always has to do everything for their subordinates. 5/5

I highly recommend you read this novel. Also the rating in this website doesn't give it justice. It's definitely 4 and above with the quality.

So far I've read yeah, no weird anomaly weird breaking creatures or magic floating wizards and aura filled swordsmen, no. It's just a dude with all knowledge of mankind's greatest works. But the problem with that is how he's going to make them into reality in ancient/medieval china. Which the author did a pretty great job of story telling.
