I don't think he is obsidian because author clearly stated that new enders will only emerge if there is no possibility of ressurection of past enders.

Black Centipede similar to Black Snake. Ring of Uroboros, i think it's all hints to the real identity of Hong Fan. Even if he's lost memory, and have new identity.
Was Hong Fan also drawn into the world of dreams? I think so. That's why the Great Mountain told him not to bring [the snake] with him.

Now that you mention it i definitely think thats a good theory. It would explain a lot about hong fan, his old soul. Talent and how he feels about immortal arts and how he looked at the nun(though that part depends on who the nun actually was)

"All the other comrades have been gathered, right? Where are the others?"

    "They're inside me."

    "...What?"

In another life, Devilish Cultivator Seo Eun-hyun reigns supreme.

...Hong Fan isn't the final boss is he? He was practicing a Black Snake Earth Tribe something or the other. He stepped on the blue worm that was Seo Hweol and told him not to emerge from his burrow next time, like he's the one that punished him. And now he's yearning for the art 2 supreme venerables came together to set up to oppose the Black Snake? He yearned for the buddhist nun like the final boss yearns for the 7 enders (buddhist Heavenly Kings). I really hope I'm wrong though, The main thing against this theory as far as I can tell is the 16th skipped life, where Hong Fan was a bro to the end. His entering heavens about embracing despair and surviving through any means necessary doesn't strike as very final boss-y either. So much confusion...

Honestly from what is said i could believe he is obsidian instead of black snake its funny that black snake's symbol is a snake eating its tail which can also symbolise rebirth. So in a way obsidian is connected to the black snake

This Hong Fan previous life subplot has been brewing way before he even had a human form.
Thought it would be revealed before the big Seo Hweol reveal (which turned out to be Seo Ran) cause the author just loves that stupid parasite. But that probably just means there’s gonna be another Seo Hweol grand plot ffs

Biggest safety is invisibility. What then when that (inevitably) stops being an option?

You have a sense of responsibility, and your face has a likeable appearance that will garner favor from the masses well. You are perfect for governance.

I think your statement of 'invisibility' in this case is wrong. The Eight Radiance Immortals all know of Seo Eun-Hyun, Blood Yin knows him, The Oldest One knows him, what I assumed is Obsidian / the embodiment of that story which is the 'Perfect Circle' that Seo Eun-Hyun knows him, almost every Immortal knows of him and his allies. The only reason that they haven't killed them (which the Mountain Immortal quite literally ended the universe causing Seo Eun-Hyun to search for the Colorless Glass Sword fragments, so he did kill them.) is because Seo Eun-Hyun evaded them using his abilities. I feel like saying that his best safety net is his 'invisibility' is really demeaning...
