Hmmm I would say making a deal with the devil can lead to wrong roads and it will but sometimes you have to make compromises because of shitty situations, you just have to be careful and know what consequenses there will be.

When somebody keeps committing evil again and again, sometimes its best to just kill them for the good of the community rather than hope they somehow repent.

this shift is too sudden even for someone like warmaisach, either theres an outside factor at play (e.g benign trauma or residue from the dreamer) or hes going through an episode that will lead him to do something he will regret

The rat mentioned he already killed before multiple times and that he's even killed for less than what the stalker guy was doing. Not to mention he now knows responsibility. He's responsible for being the head Zephyx extractor for the company and that lesson stuck to him after the Horua situation. Additionally he was raised in the dregs where its pretty much survival of the fittest especially for him on his own, against the gangs to not be emaciated. He may not want to kill people at all but he knows some people definitely deserve to die. Plus due to his new responsibility he might feel he doesn't have the luxury of sticking to his likely new no kill rule for the sake of the company and the people working there. All to say, no this shift shouldn't be too sudden as he has done this before but he for some reason made a rule not to kill people. However under his new sense of responsibility he's entering a relapse of what he may have had to do before.

I don't think he's changing his personality drastically. His belief in helping others hasn't been discarded, he's simply matured. After all, he's now targeting only those "who deserve to die." Anyway, Nick wasn't 100% good from the start. Don't forget that he was raised in the midst of all the filth that is this impoverished area; as his teacher said, Nick must have killed more than one person.

If he were a good person, a hero in the golden cloak, he would have already started fighting gangs and protecting others. He just wanted a good life and to be able to eat and live well.
