Earth, thousands of years after the apocalypse.

Countless technologies and advances had been lost to time as the Specters, horrifying beings with terrifying powers, arrived and destroyed the world.

Over the coming thousands of years, humanity had built itself up but always died again.

Nobody remembers the past.

Nobody remembers what humanity had once accomplished.

Now, everyone is living in a world where the Specters reign supreme.

-----

A boy with amnesia woke up in the middle of the Dregs, the worst part of Crimson Fungus City.

The boy grows up and manages to become strong enough to pass an exam for one of the most prestigious jobs in existence, a Zephyx Extractor, someone that can harvest the powers of Specters.

Sadly, he had already gained a power from a Specter in the past, which made him ineligible for the position.

But then, a mysterious man visits him.

And his luck finally turns around. Collapse

I'm on chapter 515, and it's clear the author has started a sort of redemption for Nick, but he's handling it very poorly. The author is just manipulating the plot to make Nick irreproachable and justify all his actions. The guy killed over 2,000 people, only to finally acknowledge his mistakes and find a way to redeem himself. And Wyston deserved to die because he killed at 17. And one thing that's responsible for the incredible lack of secondary characters in this story is that I don't know if I'll continue.

Is there anyone who can recommend novels with this kind of style? A novel with a slow and serious plot, solid world-building (a world that makes logical sense), strong character development (not hollow characters created just to suck off the MC), a non-cliched story (I’m sick of transmigration, reincarnation, and system tropes), and an MC who isn’t a perfectionist (the MC actually develops as a character and doesn’t have to be overpowered). I’ve already read several novels with a similar vibe, including: Kill the Sun, Kingdoms Bloodline, Lord of Mysteries, and The Eldrim Cards.

I already read something good (not like i said before but still good). There was Chrysalis, Second coming of gluttony, Shadow slaves, Oracle path, Surviving the game as a barbarian, Trash of the count's family, and Bog standard isekai. Those novel is good, but the masterpiece for me is what i said early 👑

have you read Sword God from this author? it has a less dark plot but is still fairly serious. It's much more focused on fighting though

So this is my first Warmaisach novel and I have to say that it was roller coaster like journey. Fun & sad with it's ups and downs.

    1) The plot development & world background were absolutely the best. It's like apocalyptic type of LOTM where we have strong people instead of God's & we have Specters instead of powerful artifacts. Here humans live in despair and are cling onto hope that someday they will breakout from this horrors that specters have on their life and become free.

    2) MC development done by author is extreme. There were times when I felt that decision made by MC is totally ludicrous since no such human thinks like that. But future readers don't under any circumstances drop the novel. Just keep on going. In this novel MC character is not like Fang Yuan but quite the opposite of him. But MC actions to achieve his goals are opposite to his own ideals. So it's quite interesting to read such character personality for first time

    3) Side characters were also quite well developed. I was wishing that author had some other epilogues like

Still felt that MC should have done something. Maybe influenced by previous novels so i liked to have that ending.

Mc prob ascended/travels the worlds, but the Aria thing is unrealistic, all mcs/storys so far were in the same "reality" essiantialy and from what we know there are only 2 entitys (one is the mc from lighting is the only way) truly capable of undoing death, not just recreation of the past(there is a ridiculus gap in terms of power between those two and everything else, ontop of even those closest to that lvl are still essiantialy gods compared to the mc here), i dont see that happening

World building is good, the power system is interesting, the only downside is the MC though. I cannot get myself to keep reading past chapter 120 when the author basically spent 50 chapters to describe his depression.

First step to fully enjoy this novel: Don’t get attached to any character, not even the protagonist. This is a very well-crafted work and story; the plot development and the main character’s growth are magnificent and truly satisfying. Even so, I believe this story is not suitable for every reader. But don’t be afraid—just enjoy the experience. Keep in mind the [Tragedy] and [Psychological] tags; if they’re there, it’s for a reason. Just be a spectator of this story, not a judge, and trust me—you won’t regret what you’ll see.
