    I truly don't want to be one of those people who comment negatively on every little thing in these fiction novels and act like it's a real world scenario. But this turn just totally floors me.
    He just rejected every thing offered based on the fact that he can get it elsewhere if he so wishes.

    But then he's seriously considering marrying her?
    What on earth will marrying her give him that he can't get anywhere else?

      Companionship . And they are already familiar.
      I like this . The mc seems more human .

      Always disliked how many protagonist go about doing great things while essentially experiencing the world as machines with a goal .
      Finally you people are probably underestimating how important blood and kinship groups were as not only the most important but almost the sole organizing principle of premodern humanity .
