    Chapter 453

Moonwatch Valley had become completely different from before.

The mountain-protecting mist formation had been activated to its fullest extent. Endless white mist surged upward from every mountain peak before gathering high above the valley, forming an enormous dome that completely enveloped the sect.

From a distance, the entire valley looked like a giant steaming pot.

    And everyone inside...

Were like fresh prawns waiting to be cooked.

Normally, sunlight bathed the valley throughout the day, warming the grass and illuminating every courtyard.

Now, not a single ray of sunlight could penetrate the dense fog overhead.

The entire valley lay under a dim, oppressive gloom.

The mist did not merely block the outside world.

It also weighed heavily upon the hearts of every disciple.

Only now did everyone truly realize—

    This was no exercise.

    One careless mistake...

    Could cost them their lives.

Even the great canyon that served as the sect's main entrance had been completely sealed.

While this strengthened the sect's defenses, it also cut off every route of escape.

There was only one way out now.

    Defeat the enemy.

    ...

The atmosphere within Su Hao's squad was somewhat peculiar.

Feng Ling smiled brightly and said,

"Captain Su Hao, we'll all follow your orders."

She then turned toward the blue-robed Feng Hua beside her.

    "Right, Master?"

In truth, she was worried about her own master's feelings.

After all, Feng Hua was an elder of the same generation as herself.

Now he had suddenly become the subordinate of his own disciple.

Anyone would find that difficult to accept.

She understood those feelings all too well.

There had once been a time when she herself struggled with the same issue countless times.

    Eventually...

She had simply grown accustomed to it.

    Besides...

How many people in the world even had the opportunity to listen to Feng Wei's instructions?

Feng Hua forced a bitter smile and nodded.

    "Naturally."

"Everything will follow the captain's arrangements."

Su Hao paid little attention to the title of captain.

Leading a squad held no appeal for him.

Perhaps long ago he had dreamed of becoming an invincible general who commanded armies across countless battlefields.

    But those ambitions had vanished.

    Now...

He wanted only to uncover more mysteries of the universe.

    To advance ever faster.

    To leap beyond the stars.

To become a traveler wandering endlessly through the river of time.

    Until eternity itself.

He did not wish to remain forever drifting through the Marble Space, sleeping endlessly between worlds.

"I want to control my own destiny.

I don't want to remain trapped in an endless cycle of sleep and awakening."

Su Hao looked at the three people before him.

    "Our objectives are very simple."

"We eliminate every enemy that enters our area."

    "And we survive."

    "As for everything else..."

"We don't need to concern ourselves with it."

    His Spiritual Consciousness spread outward.

The thick mist greatly suppressed his perception.

Normally, every cultivator within his range appeared as clearly as if standing before him.

Now he could sense only vague fluctuations of spiritual power.

The fully activated Eight-Ring Mountain Mist Formation suppressed everyone's perception equally.

    Friend or foe.

Even Su Hao's Spiritual Consciousness was affected.

Ordinary cultivators entering the formation would fare even worse.

Inside the endless fog, they would become little different from blind men.

    Unable to distinguish direction.

Unable to find friend or enemy.

The formation possessed another crucial function.

It automatically divided invading cultivators and guided them toward countless formation nodes hidden throughout the valley.

Each node was guarded by a small squad like Su Hao's.

If an elder personally controlled the formation, troublesome opponents could be directed toward stronger defenders.

For example, a Golden Core cultivator might be guided into an ambush prepared by four Golden Core disciples.

    Numbers alone would secure victory.

However, if no elder was actively controlling that portion of the formation, everything became random.

A Nascent Soul cultivator might accidentally be guided toward a squad composed entirely of Foundation Establishment disciples.

    Should that happen...

Their annihilation would be almost guaranteed.

It could only be blamed on bad luck.

Su Hao's squad occupied a fixed position along the sixth ring of the formation.

    Their task was simple.

    Remain where they were.

    Wait for enemies to arrive.

    Then eliminate them.

If the squad was wiped out, that formation node would simply cease functioning.

Future enemies would no longer be guided there.

Overall, the formation granted Moonwatch Valley a tremendous advantage.

But an advantage remained only an advantage.

    Victory still depended on strength.

If every invader happened to be a Nascent Soul cultivator...

Then no amount of clever formations could prevent enormous casualties.

    In the end...

Everything would still be decided by battle.

Before the preparations concluded, Su Hao quietly handed a Positioning Stone to Yashan, Feng Yuer and Yun Qingping.

It might save their lives at a critical moment.

After investing so many years into nurturing them...

It would be rather unfortunate if they died for no reason.

    ...

Meanwhile, the six Lineage Masters gathered once more.

Yun Xiao calmly placed a letter upon the table.

    "This is a joint ultimatum."

"It was sent by eighteen immortal sects."

"They demand that Moonwatch Valley hand over the Crystal Thief."

    "If we refuse..."

"They demand compensation for every sect that suffered losses."

    "Otherwise..."

"They will attack within three days."

    The room instantly fell silent.

    Yu Feixian's eyes widened.

    "Eighteen immortal sects?"

    Wu Yao frowned.

    "Are they ordinary sects..."

    "...or top-tier immortal sects?"

    Yun Xiao answered calmly.

"If a sect wasn't among the top immortal sects..."

"It wasn't even qualified to sign this letter."

Yue You slowly stroked his beard.

For the first time, the perpetual smile on his face disappeared completely.

    "The eighteen greatest immortal sects..."

"Joining forces against our little Moonwatch Valley?"

"What exactly have we done to deserve such treatment?"

    Yu Feixian's face darkened.

    "Which sects?"

"When this is over, I'll settle the score with every one of them."

Feng Yeshuang silently glanced at her.

She had long believed Yu Feixian possessed more emotions than sense.

    Even now...

Instead of considering how to survive...

She was already talking about revenge.

    Feng Yeshuang simply remained silent.

No amount of advice would change another person's nature.

Yun Xiao casually pushed the letter toward Yu Feixian.

    "Read it yourself."

Yu Feixian immediately unfolded the document and began reading aloud.

    "Elemental Constellation Sanhe Peak..."

    "Liuxing Huajin Gate..."

    "Triple Phoenix Pavilion..."

    "Nine Lotus Star Abyss Mountain..."

    After only a few names...

She abruptly slammed the letter onto the table.

    "They're all bandits!"

    "They've gone too far!"

    Had Su Hao been present...

He would have recognized most of those names.

    After all...

Many of them had personally experienced visits from the Crystal Thief.

Naturally, quite a few others had simply joined the alliance to seize the opportunity.

The six Lineage Masters all understood the same truth.

    Against eighteen top immortal sects...

Moonwatch Valley stood almost no chance.

Behind those eighteen sects were countless affiliated sects serving as expendable forces.

    Whether in Foundation Establishment cultivators...

    Golden Core cultivators...

    Nascent Soul cultivators...

    Or Unity cultivators...

The enemy held an overwhelming advantage.

    Even at Moonwatch Valley's peak...

They might not survive a single day against such a coalition.

    Silence filled the hall.

    Everyone weighed the same question.

Was Moonwatch Valley worth risking their lives for?

    The answer...

    Was difficult.

Even the Eight-Ring Mountain Mist Formation could not stop dozens of Unity cultivators indefinitely.

Each top immortal sect possessed at least five Unity experts.

    Some had ten or more.

Even if every sect dispatched only two or three...

The alliance would still field dozens of Unity cultivators.

The same thought quietly surfaced in every mind.

    "Should we abandon the sect?"

Yun Xiao seemed to read their expressions.

    He spoke calmly.

    "They're hoping we'll flee."

"Once we abandon the formation, they'll seize the sect with ease."

"Then they'll divide their forces and hunt each of us down."

"Without the protection of the formation..."

"If several Unity cultivators surround any one of us..."

"Our chances of escape become very slim."

    Wu Yao frowned deeply.

    "Then..."

    "What do you propose?"

A faint smile slowly appeared on Yun Xiao's face.

He looked at the five Lineage Masters.

    "Do you still remember..."

"...the forbidden escape technique jointly inherited by the Six Lineages?"

Everyone looked at him in surprise.

    Feng Yeshuang's brows furrowed slightly.

    "The Six Lineages' Thousand-Mile Journey?"

    Yun Xiao nodded.

    "Exactly."

I think that is not an escape technique. It must be a formation array to broke through unity realm after all it needs from all lineage to activate. As a sect master he knows a secret the purpose of their sect. It all already mention about unity realm, the mastermind behind the chaos, blood spirit and the eerie smile of the sect leader(likely he was possessed or something).
