Ave Xia Rem Y by Mat Haz

Ave xia rem is a good novel and a kinda unique xianxia, I would rate it 6/10, but I also would NOT recommend anyone start reading this novel. I'll start with the pros like writing, main and background characters having personalities, humor, unique use of dao(though it's still in the process of revelation). But at the core of all of it is the most basic xianxia template, I would describe the starting world of Ave xia rem as a simplified version of Against the gods. The plot and events are not particularly interesting, I'd even call them dull, there are not a lot of epic moments and it's almost mandatory for characters to exchange witty comments after each strike. When i mentioned characters having personalities, i meant their dialogues, author put a lot of effort to make them sound lively, but sometimes he overdoes and it turns into theatrics. You could say they are overacting at times.
But it still would be alright if not for its release rate! 300 chapters(plus 50+ interludes) in almost 7 years according to RR. And we are still probably just in the middle of the beginning. At this rate it would take 15 years at the very very least to finish the story, most likely 20-25 years. This is the main reason why i can't recommend this novel even if it's good.

Im in chapter 83 rn. I dont know if I like this or not. The first 70+ chapter is great. I love it. But after the dreadful event happening. And in that arc (where he go to five bat city or smth when he went to heal some branch leader). I can say I hate the way the mc become.

From my prespective, his intelect is gone, he has no self awareness, or danger instinct that most people have. He become selfless hero that risk himself without certainty he would success.

He come to heal the mad branch leader sect because the city he come after "that" dreadful event on his home (with his grieving only 2 times before and after he woke up), just because some doctor he dont know had to hide afraid they will be killed. And he not really think what can befall upon him when he "chose" to try heal him. The outcome is ofc mc win yes. But still I dont like how mc behave and thinking. I have no problem he want to save the city yes. But how he do it is unreasonable and not realistic at all. He dont even know what injyries that mad sect master suffer. There is too many risk

If he wants to become some savior or selfless hero, who not really think, why dont he come back to his home and try to do justice there? Atleast at his home he has attacthment while he not in this city.

Im not asking him to be edgy, indefference, or murderhobo. I just want him to be logical and emotional. Not some heroic selfless tale that not realistic at all.

Should I dropped it already nor not. Can someone spoiler me is his personality got any change (right now he is some selfless hero who wants to change the world and not really realistic and logical IMO).

This is a fun xianxia which is easy to recommend.

But I feel like the name and description give the wrong impression of the novel. The author describes this as a harem story but it really isn't. This is at most a minor subplot, the author doesn't feel inclined to write about romance in-depth. (). Don't read for this aspect if you like it, and don't get turned off from the novel if you don't.

The best "pro" is how grounded the story feels, and how much love the side characters get. I'm really glad the cast here is excellent with good depth and nuance.

it was alright until, at which point I ragequit because seeing them joke around was the biggest appeal of the novel for me

I love this novel. The author knows how to write, able to delve into the world much more easily.
Story is slow, but I prefer them, once it touches later chapter, u don't want to put the book down.

I don't really get why folks praise this novel so much. Yes it is competently written, however that doesn't remove how boring the story feels.

Or maybe I'm just completely sick of reading about young naive children as main characters.

Either way, I do not recommend.

really good story. But sadly author only posts once per week and the chapters are only little longer than average chapters of other novels (2,8k words), and from the last chapter I read (currently 10 chapters away from the up to date but still it took 2 months) it doesnt look like it will end like korean novels with 200 ish chapter so the author probably plannig to do 500+ but just to get to 500 chapter with the current pace it will take 6+ years. Tbh I dont belive the author will be writing after that much time.
