Mad Prince, Soul Stealer, Undying Slaughter, Torment, Devouring Beast, and the most harrowing of them all... the Dread Lord.

Why do the six plagues looks like monster version of Sunny's team, mad prince is obviously sunny cause he wears the crown and is also insane,the soul stealer can be mordret as he steals other's bodies, undying slaughter might be jet cause she is already dead, devouring beast, well that is obviously effei, torment, I don't know, maybe cassie or kai, the dread lord is the most harrowing, then it should be nephis, but as far as I remember, nephis cannot be corrupted, or is there some plothole I am missing

My theory, incoherent rambling style because this is what I was theorizing to a friend on discord:

Mad Prince is Sunny from a previous loop, Soul Stealer is Mordret, Devouring Beast is Effie, Torment is Cassie, Undying Slaughter is Jet, Dread Lord is Kai. That last one feels wrong TBH, but process of elimination leaves him. Neph isn’t here because she’s immune to the Defilement/the Corruption, obviously.

Evidence: there’s six, which strikes me as an odd number. It should be seven, yes? The Deviled king made me realize anyone can be Corrupted, even the main cast. Sunny speculated that because of [Fated], there was a high probability that he would encounter corruption soon too. Maybe sooner than we thought? So six Plagues, but seven aspirants, but Neph’s Ascended ability makes her completely, 100%, outright immune to corrupted, so six. I was thinking that Soul Stealer is the Skinwalker, but the Skinwalker could take anyone. Mordret is more limited and I didn’t think that the author would use the same ability for the third time, so it’s logical for Soul Stealer to be Mordret. I can totally see evil Effie eating people, so she makes sense. Torment being Cassie is logical because her abilities are well suited for torture (she can see what will work in advance). Undying Slaughter gave Jet vibes. Literally that’s what Jet does. And apparently the Dread Lord is really scary and nobody has survived fighting him, but if Kai is shooting people from a distance, they either die or don’t know they’re fighting. I can see that being the case. And we know nothing about the Mad Prince, but we do know that the Sin of Solace is doing a number on Sunny.

I’m also not sure about the time loop theory. But there’s tons of evidence so far and I’m honestly scared that the number of aspirants increased by one each time the MCs died. Something’s happening in the Nightmare that when one of them dies, the OG body is corrupted if not destroyed and the character is sent back to the beginning, I think. Each time this happens it effectively clones the aspirant. The nightmare occurs on the great river which is Outside of Time, so if they return from the nightmare at the some moment they enter, then the spell might have just counted each clone as an original aspirant. Kind of like a False Hydra, but for literature instead of a TTRPG.

The time loop theory of mine is supported by a bunch of stuff. First, you have to replace someone in the nightmare, and it makes sense that he’s replacing a past version of himself. He keeps getting Déjà vu or thinking that he’d had similar thoughts in the past. The wish flotsam scared the crap out of me, especially the real world writing on it. The Sin of Solace’s apparition is permanent and far more stable. And Sunny has that key now. The only thing that doesn’t make sense is the lack of extra shadow frags and memories, but maybe those didn’t carry between loops.

And last, regarding Sunny being the Mad Prince, the description of the nails reminds me of the text on the flotsam being written by nails, and I think that text was written by Sunny. That description at the end of the chapter, including appearance, swordsmanship, rank, and class are all logical and feasible for Sunny to reach. Like he reached the Estuary in the first loop and was corrupted by it. He won the Nightmare becoming Transcendent, but was corrupted/defiled and became Corrupted and trapped in the Nightmare.
