      not exactly, the principle is similar but they happen to be completely different. Sunny is relying on his own understanding, but mordret has an ability that allows him to do that

    I'm thinking that Sunny's Saint Transformation ability would be to fully turn himself into a formless and intangible shadow. I think what he's doing now is replicating it with shadow step but once he gains the Transformation ability, he will truly become a shadow. After all when he uses shadow step every non-physical attack would be an attack in his soul so he will gain +75% damage taken. This weakness will disappear once he becomes a Saint.

            True, but in the middle of a battle your enemies would not wait for you to take your sweet time to use Shadow Control + Shadow Step + Shadow Manifestation to create a good copy of them and wait for you to activate Shadow Manifestation.

      Shadow shell manifests shadows around him to mimic creatures he's familiar with but it's quite limited by size and doesn't give him much aside from shape
      Sunny figured out now that by hiding in the shadows he turns his body into a shadow which he can shape however he wants without limitations so it's a better shadow shell that can also help him with shadow dance since he's becoming the being he's copying in body as well
      He started with himself since that's the most familiar form for him
