From what Sunny had heard, there was already an epic propaganda film about the life and tragic sacrifice of the mysterious swordsman being cooked up back in the NQSC...

Would be tuff asf but human tyrants don't behave like nightmare creatures, as sunny said, being more than a beast is abnormal for the human race, they're not supposed to have multiple soul cores so they don't have abilities like tyrant abilities or ability to control hoards unless it's part of their aspect

Low-key in the last chapter, and here cooked up ... What tf are these? I dislike Gen Z slang in any form of literature. The language is a f#cking corrosion to proper English.

Last chapter does not have "low key" in it. It doesn't even has the word "low" or "key".

In this episode the expression "cooked up" was not being used as a Gen Z slang, it was referring to the creation of something, in this case, the movie.
Slang example: "Damn! He cooked and served!"
Expression example: "A new project is being cooked up"

Low-key was in the previous chapter. Skip one chapter.
Whereas have you ever seen mainstream literature or even any other texts using 'cooking' as an expression of any other thing besides literally cooking? You even gave me examples.

          Leprechaun Twins by Matt Wiedeman:

"Meanwhile, Muttman was cooking up a scheme of his own. Will the twins find what they're looking for before it falls into the wrong hands?"

The Manager’s Dilemma: A Manager’s Guide to Change Management by Steve King:

"Managers often feel their leaders cook up changes, unleash these changes, then expect managers to do the heavy lifting. That heavy lifting includes both coming to terms with changes personally, then getting their teams on board as well."

From a blog post by Melanie Faith

"I'm cooking up some fun projects for 2024 that I can't wait to share. At the moment, one project in particular is very new, wobbly, interesting ground for me, stretching what I already know with the many, many things I don't."

I hope you start to read more often and have a nice day 😉

The Manager’s Dilemma: A Manager’s Guide to Change Management by Steve King.
-> Released in January of 2022.

            Melanie Faith's mentioned blog.
-> Unspecified blog title, dated to August 7, 2025.
            ________

            This was my original question.
"Have you ever seen mainstream literature or even any other texts using 'cooking' as an expression of any other thing besides literally cooking?"

I can see you misunderstood mainstream literature.

Leprechaun Twins by Matt Wiedeman is a children's book.
The Manager’s Dilemma: A Manager’s Guide to Change Management is more of a self help book.
While Melanie Faith's extract that you presented is nothing more than a section of a blogpost which focuses on her updating her followers.

None of these classify as mainstream literature.
Our debate(?) started with wether 'cooking' or 'cooked' is a Gen-Z slang if we disregard it's literal meaning. I did some research through AI and many reddit posts. I'll forego the details and just give a brief summary of what I learnt.
'Cooking up' as in 'I am cooking up a new plan' and 'Cooked' as in 'I am totally cooked' are both decades old, with different origins. But both expression started gaining traction after African-American communities from the US popularised it and others gradually picked them up. 'Cooking up' gained traction around 2010s and 'cooked' gained traction around 2000s. So both expressions are one of the most generic Gen-Z slangs.

I didn't know if you'd reply, but even if I had been expecting a reply, i would hope you would provide more concrete examples, like extracts and exerpts from older books, or from relevant genres. But all three of your examples don't qualify and aren't even 5 yrs old.
Steve King might be 76 yrs old, but it's only to be expected from him to include modern slang for a self help book that's just 3 yrs old.
I couldn't find how old Matt Wiedeman is but a children's book that's isn't older than 3 yrs would obviously have modern slangs, given that the slangs aren't sexual or derogatory in nature.
I couldn't find Melanie Faith's age either. But she barely looks to be in her early 40s. And the extract you provided is an update blogpost which in no way qualifies as literature.

Fair point, I misunderstood and didn't research that far. English isn't my first language so I might have started a discussion I couldn't win from the start...

As someone who has a bad habit of saying "lowkey" too much, how it was used last chapter is not how it's used in gen-z slang. It was used last chapter to describe Saint Cor as subtle or reserved while the slang is basically a replacement for the word "kinda". "He's lowkey stupid", "its lowkey cold out", "he lowkey might be onto something", etc.
