Hearing the laughter of his comrades, Luster crossed his arms. "Hey! That thing really works!"

"Exactly! And I survived meeting every one!"

It hadn’t dawned on me that this was subtle foreshadowing for him being one of the only survivors of Sunny’s regiment.

    I agree. I really hated to see them killed off, but I also respect the approach of them facing a realistic outcome more than everybody miraculously surviving. Especially for what it does for Sunny’s character. Still miss them, but G3 can write lol

      the writing is absolutely fantastic this arc. sunnys character is also in my opinion one of the best on this site. (not gonna say the best since i am gonna read some good recommandations soon)
      everything he does is so realistic. his development is done so good aswell. and he is just so human.

        I completely agree. One of my favorite parts of the novel so far is the end of their third nightmare. It basically brought all of the conflicts and characterizations of the most significant characters to a boiling point that led Sunny to become fateless. That entire development is not only excellent for the plot, but also digs into the themes of this novel and is one hell of a “careful what you wish for” moment. More specifically, I loved his conflicted feelings about being enslaved to Nephis even though he knew she would never use it against him. First, it represents his background as being raised in the slums where trusting somebody with the wrong thing was liable to get you killed, or worse. Next, I feel like the conflicted feelings of romance was also a beautiful touch. Romantic feelings make stuff get messy quick, which we see in many of his more insane decisions. It makes his conflict about breaking his chains and ultimate emotion-driven decision to go through with it so damn in character, like that’s the only natural decision he could’ve ever made. I find the Mad Prince as a corrupted version of Sunny super interesting too, but I’ve yapped a bit too much lol

        I never hated Cassie, even though she was the apparent “antagonist” for a second, because this novel is all about complexity, but I really appreciated her more after the third nightmare. Especially seeing her extrapolate information from phenomena she couldn’t control, and after it was pointed out how significant her efforts had been in focusing on giving him the opportunity to lose his fate to the point where she lost the majority of her memories before the third nightmare on account so many of her efforts being focused on purely that end. It also damn near made me tear up when she realized Sunny has been with her and Neph from the very beginning
