Transmigrating into a wasteland ravaged by infected creatures and relentless natural disasters, Cheng Ye becomes a border inspector in Happiness City.

Every survivor seeking to join Happiness City must undergo rigorous questioning and inspection to prevent infected from infiltrating.

But soon, Cheng Ye discovers these infected are nothing like he imagined!

There are Deathwhisper tent**les that resurrect the dead, sustained by obsession.

There are Death Dandelions that can instantly infect everything within a two-kilometer radius.

There are Fiery Sunflowers that emit bio-deconstructing rays, melting everything in their path.

And there are Laughing Mandrakes that grow stronger the more they make creatures laugh…

What? I have to inspect these monsters?

Fortunately, Cheng Ye acquires a special Civilization Collector.

As long as a creature’s cooperation level is high enough, he can search and replicate their information, items, skills, attributes, abilities, or even facilities…

Even a failed search accumulates action points, which can be used to upgrade items, equipment, or shelters.

Wait, what? It can even search for a spouse?

Staring at the city lord’s wife appearing before him, Cheng Ye is dumbfounded! Collapse

Timeline is slow. Didn't skip much. So even if it already have a lot of chapter its like 3-6 months in mtl(actually forgot. Lol). Mc isn't actively using the system how its normally used. I imagine it can be utilize more by gathering more knowledge but he's not actively doing that as he kinda need talents and skills to survive.

    Currently at ch90, would recommend.
Gives off early Kill the Sun vibes, or perhaps Embers Ad Infinitum, unsure.
The power dynamics were a bit annoying at the beginning but makes more sense as the story goes on and becomes a bit less annoying

So, I was interested in the idea of the daily inspections, and knowing about the different types of infected and seeing the MC daily struggles against them while getting stronger, but after 50+ chapters, most of the chapters were about the politics and East-West conflict.
MC has been to inspection point 2 or 3 times so far, which is very disappointing to me.
Overall, it's not bad, but it falls short of my expectations based on the novel's description. 20

The protagonist is not careful at all. No one is surprised by his sharply increased abilities and does not connect it with the infection. The protagonist does not even think about whether people will find out that something is wrong with him if he continues to rapidly become stronger.

People aren’t particularly surprised, since there are already individuals with powers far beyond ordinary humans. These people are known as Transcendents. Even ordinary people are stronger than the MC, let alone the Transcendents. As a result, no one suspects anything unusual about him. They simply assume he’s talented.

poison tester here, coming back from chapter 82 to report wiseacre
    rating: A--

this novel has been pretty great so far, a little bit reminiscent of "Kill the Sun," but with a much different main character; there's an industrial "sanctuary" city, evils pretending to be human, a protagonist charged with inspecting them, supernatural powers, and a deep conspiracy only touched on far into the novel
speaking of the mc, he's definitely clever, both academically and socially, but his morals and motivations aren't extremely complex; i think the tone of the synopsis makes him sound much more like a buffoon than he really is
bear in mind that he starts off in a place of power: he's respected and feared by common people from the beginning, and as his reputation and skills spread even his peers and superiors become deferential. if you're into the "S-sir! We didn't know it was you! I apologize, please forgive me!"-style interactions towards your protagonists, then you've come to the right novel

the world is fascinating, but the surroundings of the shelter haven't been rigidly fleshed out yet. the mc still hasn't gone outside in 82 chapters, but i imagine that's when the real worldbuilding will come in
there's some nationalism, but it doesn't extend beyond the "westerners" being generally brutish, cold-blooded, and individualistic while the "easterners" are community-oriented, warm, and brotherly. if you're like me and don't take country-wide insults to heart, you'll have no problem

the goldfinger is a little out of place so far, but i hope it'll be integrated better eventually. for now, it's just another lingering mystery.

plenty of likeable characters, an author who knows how to keep your attention, an interesting cheat mechanic, and a very smart (but not cold-blooded) MC. now i'll have to stop writing so i can get back to reading!!!
