Jiang Ran got tricked into moving into an apartment complex called Alice, where every single resident is some kind of killer or deranged criminal.

Along with him, there were four others—they’re the 25th round of lab rats. Rich people are watching them live, placing bets on who dies first and who makes it to the end in this twisted survival game.

In the apartment, there’s:

- A psycho who likes skinning people to make kites.

- A modern-day Jack the Ripper who only targets women.

- A highly educated, high-IQ criminal mastermind.

- And a chainsaw-wielding maniac with a thirst for blood.

The system bound to Jiang Ran keeps screaming alerts:

【Ding! Host is detected in an extremely dangerous zone! Run!】

【Ding! Dangerous person detected nearby, RUN!】

【Ding! Extremely dangerous individual detected nearby! Seriously, RUN!】

Jiang Ran scratched his head, totally fed up:

“System, you’re talking nonsense again. The neighbors are clearly all super nice and friendly, but you keep throwing dirt on them! You’re the worst!”

“And anyway, there’s a gorgeous woman right next to me right now. How could she possibly be ‘extremely dangerous’?” Collapse

A premise with potential, but so far it converts shock into filler rather than narrative progression. If you enjoy horror tropes mixed with system alerts and a disbelieving MC, it might entertain briefly. But if you want real emotional stakes or tactical payoff...this novel doesn’t offer enough substance to stay compelling.

Sorry for the rawness and talking without me being drunk. Here's why:

    PROS:
    1. High concept premise: A survival-game meets social experiment angle is intriguing enough to hook readers quickly.
    2. Tight setup and tension in early chapters...it wastes no time in introducing danger, system warnings, and extreme characters.
    3. System elements (danger alerts) bring comedic tension when the MC completely misreads his situation.

    What Falls Flat:

Ps. Sorry for the bluntness. I will post a review soon regarding this...

I’ve read up to Chapter 112+, including the “Screaming Building” arc, the “Morgue Clean-Up Punishment” arc, and most of the “Neighborhood Conference” sequence.... so this isn’t just based on first impressions or early arcs and this wasn’t a surface-level impression. :(

And by that point side characters like “the chainsaw neighbor” and “plastic surgeon girl” never evolve beyond horror tropes....
And there’s a pattern: insert grotesque neighbor → do silly cleaning job → escape → repeat, without deeper consequence or growth.

Jiang Ran’s emotional flatness and the repetitive tension patterns stood out consistently, not just early on. And I totally get if others vibe with the premise or enjoy the slapstick-dark tone. But from a storytelling and engagement perspective, I found it heavy on gimmicks and light on real payoff.

If later chapters shift drastically, I’m open to being proven wrong...but so far, it’s more flash than substance. Also if you feel it improves drastically after that, I’d be genuinely interested to hear which arc or turning point changed it for you.

          Morgue clean up punishment?

The author does put a much much greater emphasis on other characters back stories and personalities, even to an extent i would say it's too much.

Essentially, horror scenes do happen that may or may not effect you greatly emotionally.

For example, ahead is a minor spoiler:

And this level of detail (which i couldn't entirely capture) becomes the norm later in the series.

Ah! I’ve been following this on BOTITranslation - I really enjoy it.

First off, no real stakes. There is a system - but it mainly provides comedy.
Plot is MC ends up unknowingly part of a weekly death game hosted by a mysterious organization watched by rich people online. Every week they get on who will die last - if the winner survives, they end up in next weeks challenge.

The twist is that every other resident seems to be some sort of criminal, maniac, or psychopath that kills based on some sort of “rule”. For example, an old man who invites challengers in to his apartment to help him do chores, if/when they decline he kills them.

Because MC doesn’t want to bother anyone and goes out of his way to be kind (generally) he doesn’t realize they are serial killers - now he also has a split personality that fits in with the killers, and that dynamic can be interesting.

The story is not really MC focused, because he’s not really adventurous and is kind-hearted not much happens to him. So we get a lot of time on the other contestants each week and how they inevitably make a mistake and are killed.

IMO, it’s a relaxed story to enjoy casually. If you don’t like the premise after the old man encounter, I don’t think you will enjoy the story.

Well, if you like reading about serial killers murdering NPCs and then running into an even crazier MC, then you're welcome.

The MC is mentally ill, and all his alternate personalities are worse than any criminal, while he himself is like a fluffy, kind-hearted guy.

    In a nutshell, MC,

Not worth it at least to me. Read till chapter 39 and saw this.
"Foreign devil, you and that black guy - are you both mentally ill? The black guy I get, born with
underdeveloped brains. But you're white - why join his stupidity?" Xiao Q suddenly spat through
    gritted teeth.
The white man kept smirking: "Hehe, Chinese, if my friend heard your racist remarks, you'd die
painfully! No - you'd beg for death but not get it!!!"

Also practically there is no MC because in these 39 chapters there were more chapters about everyone else than him maybe it will change later but idk.
