A story about a traveler who crossed into a parallel universe, relying on his Proficiency ability to continuously grind experience and become stronger.

The “liver” meme in Chinese gaming culture can be likened to the “sell a kidney” meme, as both express extreme dedication or sacrifice for the sake of gaming.

The "sell a kidney" meme humorously suggests that individuals would go to great lengths, even selling an organ, to afford in-game purchases or experiences. Similarly, the "liver" meme refers to players who spend excessive hours grinding in games, often at the expense of their health, particularly their liver, due to late-night gaming sessions.

It's a good job. I like this wuxia more than Xiangxia. Old Man Jia just made my day. The only negative is that not a single female character has appeared in 200 chapters, the author is so afraid to write romance that he simply deleted all the women from the novel, it feels like I got into a celibate monastery.

Got to Chapter 34 and am dropping it, mainly because I hate how MC interacts with Jie Jia.

Jie is an Assassin who initially gets a contract to go after MC, but just after they get face to face he receives a note saying its been cancelled, so leaves.

Then, later, MC decides to hire a merchant delivery service and just so happens to get Jie Jia assigned to him. He decides to keep interacting with him after that as well, despite the fact Jie is CONSTANTLY trying to scam MC with fake herbs, is CONSTANTLY trying to charge way more for everything than its worth (like 20 taels of silver to be a guide to the black market, then lowering it to 2 after being called out) and is also always being disparaging and negative towards MC.

MC himself never even tries to look for other sources for things, just always decides to rely on this guy. I understand why, but it really annoys me when MCs constantly work with people like this who are constantly trying to scam them. It's basically the exact same thing as in "Cultivation: Start From Simplifying Martial Arts Techniques" - where the MC also dealt constantly with a guy trying to scam him with fake herbs etc. Of course in that one, and likely in this one, it will turn out for the better in the end, but its just too annoying for me, especially lately with the MC being an idiot for no reason.

He is being targeted by some gang because he is fairly regularly selling baskets of fish in the market during a time of food shortage. So he goes to Jie Jia as usual, who he is now feeding 3 meals a day for free after having moved in next to him to try and use him as a guard against ghosts (which is stupid af since there's absolutely nothing to stop Jie from just not helping out, and since he is weaker he is much more likely to be targeted first). He then (over)pays for some Intel on gang and sees that they have some ties to higher ups - the typical gang stuff in these novels.

He disguises himself, then for some dumb reason, decides to spread a knock out poison in their whole base TWICE in one day, without killing anyone or robbing anything. Then when he gets back, Jie Jia basically tells him that he was following MC and robbed all those people who MC knocked out, because the MC somehow f#cking forgot to Rob them???? He has had NO trouble robbing and even killing people who targeted him before, so idk why he did this other than for some weird humour with Jie Jia.

Some comments I've seen on chapters seem to really like the dynamic between MC and Jie Jia - if that type of thing is funny for you, then I would reccomend you give this a try. If it wasn't for Jie Jia I would definitely have continued this, since I am interested in seeing MC grow and have some encounters with ghosts or other supernatural stuff, but this just doesn't vibe with me unfortunately.

That's unfair. Jie is a good character. They are become friend of sorts. He became important and a good source of stuff for the mc letter on

You have no funny bone in your body,

The part where he try to scam him is a joke. its a f#cking gag you are taking too seriously

Like I mentioned, I can definitely believe they become friends later on - the exact same thing happened in that other novel I mentioned. And I also mentioned that it clearly is funny for some people, since I've seen it in 2 different novels and both times have had people praising it.

I (personally) just don't find it funny in the slightest. In both these cases, MC is being scammed and yet consistently carries on working with the scammer and never tries finding other sources. It just makes the MC seem foolish. If you bought something fake from a scammer, then continued to go to them after that and they continued trying to scam you. Then that just makes you an idiot. There's nothing funny in that at all for me - but clearly others disagree.

It all depends on the context and phrasing on whether something is funny or not to people. Judging someone as having "no funny bone" just because they don't find one type of thing funny is kinda insane ngl.

Please let me know why exactly you find this funny, because I have no clue.
The only thing I can think of in this case is either because Jie is being shameless in his scamming attempts, or because MC is being am idiot in constantly going back and dealing with him despite all this.

I'm all for self-deprecating humour, but in these cases the "punchline" is caused by the MC being an idiot. Unless its a pure comedy novel where the story doesn't matter, then it would be fine I guess. But personally I don't consider this to be a pure comedy novel and regardless, I don't like it when MCs are/act dumb or careless for no reason.

I don't remember what it was called, but there was a good comedy novel on here that I read a decent amount before it got repetitive where MC was completely immortal and instantly respawned after death. After a while he basically acted completely off the rails - constantly courting death, being an idiot, provoking everyone etc. But in that context is was funny because that was the whole point. Here MC being an idiot and accepting being scammed again and again is just frustrating imo.

I completely agree, I’m dropping at chapter 67 because I simply can’t bare the MC anymore. Clearly we just don’t understand this kind of ‘stupid humour’. I just don’t understand, this humour could have still worked if the MC was smart, like the author basically forced the MC to have to rely on this old man, but you didn’t have to make the MC do all that poisoning the gang thing. It’s like completely nonsense, clearly he had no qualms killing bad people before but now all of a sudden he decides to be Mr nice guy and just give them a fright, rob them? Nah somehow forgot. It’s just frustrating how the author just can’t keep the character together and it’s become a mess.

If you can bear jia jia, this might work for you. Basically, jia jia is joke character, except mc is butt of the joke, and joke is that mc is retard that gets taken advantage of and never learns. Or that for some reason, mc is super hardcore about hiding, but second jia jia came to the scene, he basically had no guards up, he just exposes most of his secrets to him.
Aka. classic "comedy" that is just mc being retard for no other reason that just to make the "joke". Idk, you just need to be in exceptionally good mood to ignore it, or want to hate read. It's fine if jokes have some point, but this is just mc being stupid for nothing and never learning, aka author using same method to make a "joke"''

This is just very annoying, it's like jia jia is friend, except he in no way is, it's like jia jia is joke character, except mc is one being made fun of. Overall, this character was just placed to fulfill these roles, or something like it, without any kind of prep, one chapter he's just there. I mean basically it's like some random person coming to ring your bell, you open, they rush in and act as if they are your roommate, and instead of freaking out, you just go along with it, for some reason.

Not very funny repetitive comedy story in the world of demons, ghosts and cultivators (maybe because of bad translation, I don't know). Somewhere around 3-3.5/5 I think.
