Chapter 256

Looking at the monsters surrounding him, Chromie groaned inwardly.

These monsters were bent over, their long sleeves were not far from the ground. Even so, these monsters were almost three meters tall. If they stood up straight, they would be about four meters tall.

His skin was gray and wrinkled, and his body was skinny. His large head was covered with a few strands of yellow hair. Deep in his eye sockets was a pair of green eyes that glowed with greed as he looked at Chromie.

They opened their mouths, revealing rows of sharp teeth. Their long, scarlet tongues hung out, and they lowered their bodies to lick Chromie's blood that dripped from the ground.

They would never show their backs to their own kind. If any monster tried to circle around them, they would be growled at by their own kind as a warning.

It could be seen that these monsters were not very united. Even when they were hunting for food, they were still wary of their own kind.

If it wasn't for their caution, these monsters would have already swarmed Chromie and devoured him alive.

"Are these the remaining elves?" Chromie could see traces of elves from the general outline of these creatures. He didn't expect that after thousands of years, the originally elegant and beautiful elves would turn into a group of ugly and dirty beasts.

Their large tongues made the monsters' speech a little unclear. They uttered some unclear words, and finally, under the attraction of flesh and blood, they completely gave up on their scruples and pounced towards Chromie.

Chromie rolled over and dodged the monster's attack. He threw the sword in his hand towards the monster. The blade of the sword cut through the monster's body, and a trace of gray blood splattered out.

One of the surrounding monsters pounced on Chromie without hesitation. However, its target was not Chromie, but the monster that was cut.

Its sharp teeth bit on the body of its own kind without hesitation, and its long tongue greedily licked the blood that splattered out.

Seeing this, Chromie ran to the side without hesitation. At this moment, his body was covered with wounds, and he didn't have much stamina left. His strength had dropped by more than half. If he continued to fight, the only outcome would be to become the monsters' dinner.

Touching the Tome of Sacrifice sewn in his pocket, he no longer had the strength to fight. If he could not escape from these monsters, then the only thing he could hope for was the sacrificial magic in the Tome of Sacrifice.

The two monsters tore at each other. The one that was injured by Chromie's sword was at a disadvantage, while the other two monsters quietly disappeared, as if they were planning something else. The remaining three monsters had their eyes on Chromie and were chasing after him with all four limbs.

The spells from the Chapter of Sacrifice appeared in Chromie's mind one by one. He gave up on the Finger of Sacrifice. These three monsters were abnormally agile, so he might not be able to hit them in his current state.

"Sacrificing skin to get the Dark Cloak?" Another sacrifice appeared in Chromie's mind. If he sacrificed his skin, he would obtain the ability Gloomy Cloak, which would allow him to become invisible from a different angle like an apparition. However, from then on, he would have to constantly activate this ability.

If he stopped using this ability, he would appear in reality in a skinless state.

Without the protection of his skin, even Chromie would die very soon. In other words, if he sacrificed his skin, the amount of time he could move around in reality would be greatly limited.

"Sacrificing my arm to activate the one-time spell [Grand Palm Seal] would cause too much commotion, and I might not even be able to escape its attack range" Chromie recalled the spell's description and rolled to the side, dodging one of the attacks.

"Sacrificing a part of my kidney to activate the one-time spell [Spring of Life] to fully recover my body's condition, but the price is that my body will become very weak from now on" Chromie was constantly thinking about how he should sacrifice it.

After all, sacrificing something was a lifetime thing, just like the priority of activating a spell, even the best priests of the church couldn't use divine spells to heal the missing parts of his body and regrow them, so he could only use a fake eye for his left eye.

What he sacrificed was what he would lose, so normally, Chromie wouldn't choose to sacrifice anything unless he could.

"I can't, I have no other choice" Chromie's eyes were dizzy, his body was exhausted, his body had already reached its limit. Love wasn't omnipotent, so sacrificing love to obtain an ability wasn't omnipotent either.

He did have endless stamina, but that didn't come from nowhere, at the very least, he needed some food to replenish himself.

"Activate it, I'll sacrifice my other eye to activate the Petrification Ray" Chromie finally made his decision. Even if he lost his last eye, he could still use a fake eye. Although it was only an external object and couldn't compare to a real eye, at least he wouldn't lose his sight completely.

Chromie's quick-witted eye quickly petrified, a large gray ray of light shot out from it. The charging monsters instantly slowed down under the gray ray of light, their originally gray bodies quickly petrified and turned into statues.

The stone eyeball slid down from its socket. Chromie panted heavily, a stream of bloody tears flowed out from his empty right eye socket.

Chromie's body staggered as he ran, a few unassuming white flowers had appeared around him without him noticing. All of a sudden, Chromie felt dizzy, his body powerlessly collapsed into the grass.

Not too long later, a tall figure wearing an ugly robe arrived nearby with a lantern in hand. The tall figure slowly drew a scimitar, but as he saw the moonlight ring on Chromie's hand, he reached out with his pale white hand, dipped it in Chromie's blood, and put it in his mouth.

"Farnate …" the tall figure spoke in the ancient elven language, then sighed and put Chromie's body on his shoulder.

On the other side, Darr was suppressing his frenzied thoughts as he followed Chromie's footprints, moving his body through this unfamiliar area.

The other party was obviously related to this elven ruin, so if he wanted to obtain the soul-linking item from this place, following Chromie was without a doubt the best choice.

Very quickly, Darr arrived at the place where Chromie ran into the monsters. Looking at the traces around him, Darr's body wriggled, then his head suddenly turned. Blood shot out from his right eye and pierced through the body of a monster that was hiding in the shadows.

Looking at the monster that was sputtering gray blood, Darr suddenly had an impulse. His deformed limbs reached out to grab the monster that was the incarnation of an elf and pulled it closer to his body. Not far from its abdomen, two rows of ribs were opened, and its internal organs were squirming. Suddenly, several tentacles reached out and pulled the monster into his body regardless of its struggles.
