Chapter 241
Dong!
A large bell rang to announce the time, signifying the end of the morning in Lohr.
After chatting with Olga for a while, Chromie smiled and said: "I've recruited a few people to take care of the estate, but they'll probably only be able to report in tomorrow. How about we take a walk together, then have lunch together?"
"It would be my honor" Olga also smiled in response.
However, as he looked at Olga's smile, Chromie suddenly felt that it was a very fake smile, a bit too dreamy.
That's right, three years ago, he disappeared without a trace. First, he was imprisoned in the church's prison, then after the Reformist faction of the church won, they established a new Saint Hunters specifically to deal with those of evil. He joined the Saint Hunters and went to fight in other areas for three years.
But he didn't think that Olga, who he thought had already left, would actually be waiting in Lohr for him, a person whose status was unknown, to return.
This is all too surreal.
"What's the matter?" Olga's voice pulled Chromie back from his chaotic thoughts.
"It's nothing, let's go" The two of them slowly walked along the street towards a restaurant. Most of the restaurants in Lohr only served lunch, very few of them served dinner, after all, nighttime was a wild zone.
In the past, various evil monsters would appear at night, attracted by the sinful moonlight to attack living beings. If the Night Watchers didn't exist, these monsters would focus their attention on the people inside the houses.
But now, the nighttime of Lohr had become even more dangerous, as if it was a battlefield. Various forces began to hunt and kill each other at night, including the Night Watchers, the Saint Hunters, the church's patrols, the renegades, abnormal lifeforms, as well as the recent appearance of blasphemous entities.
Chromie had broken into a Hermit Order branch headquarters in another area and obtained some information regarding this new blasphemous entity. This was also the reason why the Saint Hunters arranged for him to return.
Walking side by side with Olga on the street, Chromie found that there were some things that he couldn't go back to the past. His gaze was currently focused on the corners, rooftops, as well as a few places where he could hide.
It wasn't like before, when he and Olga were walking on the street, his attention was definitely focused on Olga.
On the other hand, his attention couldn't be completely focused on Olga either, so he began to think about his own matters.
"The Gear of Blasphemy, this existence that blasphemes life, was it you who created it?" Chromie recalled the image of Negary he saw during his Spirit Vision. Perhaps it was out of selfishness, or perhaps it was out of some indescribable emotion, Chromie didn't report the fact that he came into contact with the founder of the Hermit Order, Negary.
While chatting with Auri, Chromie couldn't help but think about his own work as he observed the wounds on the city of Lohr.
Perhaps this was the ability or side effect of the last sacrifice. He had endless energy, and he could do multiple things at the same time without feeling tired. At the corner of the street in the distance, two young men were chatting happily as they walked towards them. They were dressed in common clothes and looked like the sons of commoners. It was rare that they didn't have to work at home or in the shop to enjoy their holiday.
As soon as these two people appeared, a part of Chromie's attention was focused on them. Ever since he joined the Saint Hunters, he had offended quite a few people. The conservative faction of the church, the Impure Hermit Order, the Soundless cult, various organizations of various sizes.
Their methods were despicable, to eliminate dissidents or to retaliate, they would resort to any sort of despicable means.
The most despicable of them all was the retaliation of the conservative faction of the church. To strike back at Chromie and the other 'wordless blasphemers' of the church, they sent people to dig up the church's graveyard, took out his father's ashes, and set up a trap.
If it weren't for his good friend's help, Chromie would have truly been in danger.
It was because he had been living in such an environment for a long time that Chromie had developed a cautious personality. Anyone who tried to approach him would be suspicious, so he would observe them to determine how dangerous they were.
Even Olga was under Chromie's observation. She was only a normal person, and although her tone and actions had changed a bit, she was still the same person he was familiar with, this was undeniable.
They're only normal people, but it's still best to be careful. Chromie made his initial judgment, but didn't let his guard down. At his previous workplace, there were quite a few evil cultists who would brainwash young people who hadn't even established their worldview yet, turning them into suicide squad members. Using the human sympathy for the young, it was easy for them to succeed.
His gaze was still straight ahead, as if he wasn't observing the two young people. In truth, his left eye had been constantly collecting information on the two young people. After sacrificing his left eye, Chromie had transplanted a type of artificial eye made from a monster's eyeball, granting him the ability to observe from a wide range.
The two young people walked past Chromie's group, although they glanced at them a few times, nothing happened.
I didn't sense any abnormal energy reaction, nor did they transmit any material to me, not even their breathing. Perhaps I'm just being too sensitive. Chromie thought self-deprecatingly.
"From a certain point of view, Lohr truly is a peaceful town" Chromie sighed. But before he could open the restaurant's door, Olga suddenly screamed in shock, her eyes rolled back, and collapsed on the side of the street.
Chromie hurriedly observed his surroundings, crouched down, and placed his finger on Olga's neck artery.
"Her heartbeat and breathing have both become weak, her vital signs are rapidly weakening" Chromie quickly came to a conclusion, then used the Fearless Spirit he obtained from sacrificing his fear without hesitation.
A faint red glow enveloped his body. Under the effect of the Fearless Spirit, Chromie was able to see another aspect of the world, as well as see spirit bodies and harm them, so he naturally noticed Olga's abnormality.
Olga's soul was no longer in her body.
Chromie raised his head and saw the pair of youths from before standing on a roof. They had a wanton smile on their faces as they opened their mouths and said a few words.
Having a bit of understanding of lip reading, Chromie understood what they were saying.
"The Hermit Order sends its regards!"
"What a blatant act of vengeance" Chromie looked at the two young people and smiled bitterly, but didn't panic. The majority of people would panic due to fear, the fear of losing something. Having lost his fear, Chromie was able to maintain his calm and quickly contacted the Saint Hunters through the patrolling knights of the church.
"The most important thing right now is to find Olga's soul. Her body is still alive, which means that her soul and the shackles of life are still intact"
