Chapter 804: Small Town
The Union warriors were pushed back to the top of their slope, causing their losses to increase faster and faster by the minute.
The Union commanders failed to stabilize the situation, causing the Union soldiers to desert en masse.
It wasn't the orcs or trolls who started running first, but the goblins. When they realized that they had already lost, they quickly took all the most basic equipment and ran away.
The trolls started running second because of their huge losses.
After the goblins and trolls fled, the Orc casualties started to multiply, so they simply had no other choice.
As for the dwarves, they all deserted right after the orcs.
— Let's kill them!
The soldiers of the empire formed up in battle formations and began methodically killing those who couldn't escape.
Just an hour ago, the forces of the two armies were roughly equal, but now it had turned into a one-sided massacre.
Su Xiao mingled with the crowd and killed the union warriors from time to time. With each such kill, he regained a very nice 13-16 health points and the same amount of mana.
Because of this, the wounds on Su Xiao's body began to slowly heal. Although they didn't drag on very quickly, it was a very good result, since he didn't spend anything to do it.
When Su Xiao killed more than a dozen enemy warriors, the heaviness disappeared from his chest and his breathing became much easier.
As soon as he discovered this, he immediately began to kill even more fiercely.
This battle was completely different now. If earlier two armies fought for this fortress, now it was the pursuit of deserters. The union warriors who failed to retreat in time were quickly killed, and the empire warriors advanced further and further.
Screams rang out endlessly in the vicinity of the fortress. Many of the contractors from Apocalyptic Paradise who didn't manage to escape looked really bad.
There were too many imperial warriors around them.
One of these contractors ended up dying in just a couple of minutes from another wave of Empire warriors.
The massacre quickly turned into a pursuit. Only a small portion of the empire's army was stationed in the fortress, while the bulk of the army rushed in pursuit of the union deserters.
Su Xiao also chased after the union warriors. As long as they didn't stop chasing them, this fight wouldn't be considered over. As for buying back the sacred oak branch, there was no need to think about it just yet. As soon as this battle began, Rai reported that all exchange points were closed and would only be reopened if the fortress on the Black Earth Plain was successfully captured.
As for the fortress, its condition left much to be desired. The interior of the fortress was severely damaged, and the Imperial army would have to destroy the ascent to the fortress walls by the Tribal Alliance as soon as possible. After that, the empire will also have to repair the fortress and seal the dozens of underground passages that were sealed by the Tribal Alliance Army.
Until all this is done, the empire's army will not be able to fully deploy in the fortress. As for time, they will all have to wait at least two days to fix the most basic problems, taking into account the large number of forces involved.
In other words, there were at least two days to wait before the exchange points opened, so there was simply no point in Su Xiao rushing somewhere.
----
Three hours later.
The Empire's army marched neatly into the territory of the Tribal Alliance. She entered a territory that had not been visited by the empire's warriors for a long time due to the constant attacks of the fortress on the Black Earth Plain.
It might have seemed like they had gone deep into the Tribal Alliance's territory in three hours, but they weren't. The empire's soldiers systematically cleared the area around the fortress of the remnants of the Union army and at the same time slowly advanced.
An imperial officer rode a war horse in front of the army. His name was Russell. He was a supporter of Carlos and quite a strong warrior from the Ironblood Legion.
After Carlos came to power, Russell was immediately promoted several levels, not because he was always on Carlos ' side, but because of his strength and excellent commanding abilities. Previously, he couldn't get promoted just because of his background. Fortunately, Carlos didn't care about his background and only looked at his abilities.
— Reporting to Commander Russell, a small town has been discovered up ahead, it is currently under the control of the Tribal Alliance, " the scout said and knelt down on one knee in front of Russell's horse with a respectful look.
— Population? Russell asked coldly. He usually didn't talk much and didn't smile much. He was a serious, thin, and cold man. At least that was the first impression he always made.
— Probably 20,000 to 40,000 people. Due to lack of time, I couldn't get a more specific number, " the scout replied and swallowed.
— Russell's tone was calm.
— Lord Russell, please spare my life, I - " The scout's face paled in fear.
— Just as Russell finished speaking, a forest elf appeared behind him. He was extremely fast, and before the scout could make a move, the knife had already fallen out of his hand and landed on the ground, after which his head joined his knife.
— That bastard Mark was really useless. Spies from various tribes have even infiltrated our scouting squads. Every time Master Carlos wanted to deal with the spies, that bastard always hesitated, " Russell muttered and didn't even look at the scout's body.
As a member of the scouting squad that had been guarding the Black Earth Plain Fortress all this time, this guy didn't even know about the population of the nearby Tribal Union settlements. He didn't know what the scouts should have known in the first place. Even if he wasn't a spy, he would end up losing his head sooner or later for neglecting his job.
The Imperial army was still marching towards the small city.
Su Xiao was currently in the middle of the empire's army, and soon a city appeared in his field of vision as well.
*Whew~*
A balloon flew into the Imperial army in a parabola.
It was a goblin bomb.
*BOOM!*
About twenty imperial warriors were torn to pieces and two, if not three, times as many were wounded.
Immediately, a foot fell down next to Su Xiao.
— The Commander-in-chief's order! Go on the attack!
The Empire's army immediately rushed towards the city, while the remnants of the Tribal Alliance army that were not far from the city immediately began to retreat inside the city.
Just a couple of minutes later, the imperial army was able to break into the city and started fighting in the streets.
Shouts began to come from the city. Most of the screams came from civilians in this city. There were orcs, goblins, and so on, but most of the people living in this city were female.
In the Tribal Alliance, young or adult males were conscripted into the army on a mandatory basis.
When Su Xiao entered the city, the battle on the streets had already come to an end.
Only a small part of the union army managed to take refuge in this city, so it was destroyed in the shortest possible time.
Su Xiao also started walking around the city. There were no civilians in sight on the streets right now. All of them hid in their homes and looked fearfully out of the windows at the soldiers of the empire. Most of the houses in this city were built of stone and were two stories high. The development in this city was very dense, which made the streets quite cramped, and due to the fact that it had recently rained here, the streets were very dirty.
The imperial army also began combing the city and from time to time finished off small groups of the Union army.
It wasn't wise to continue going deep into the union territory, so after clearing this city of the remnants of the Union army, the imperial army would first rest for a while before returning to the fortress on the Black Earth Plain.
After clearing the streets of the union soldiers, the Empire soldiers visibly relaxed and began to disperse around the city.
Su Xiao was sitting on the stone steps in front of the house, eating pressed cookies.
Although the pressed cookies were not very tasty, but they could be eaten in the shortest possible time.
