Chapter 997: Transferred from Lecheng

After Yang Haoran finished his explanation, he remained silent. Luo Yao's gaze, however, held a newfound admiration for Yang Haoran.

"To think, an Underworld Official who's only been an Emissary of Death for a few years, with no backing, could figure out a way to open a shop in the Underworld—that's truly no simple feat. For you to achieve that is extremely difficult. Furthermore, managing the shop successfully after opening it, that's even harder. It seems the person who recommended you to me wasn't wrong; you truly are capable. And I believe you're not just capable, but also full of ideas, and what I need right now is precisely this kind of talent."

Luo Yao's words were a high commendation for Yang Haoran. Listening to them, Yang Haoran remained calm inside, yet on his face, he displayed a humble smile, his eyes revealing an uncontainable flicker of excitement.

"Thank you for the praise, Divine Emissary," Yang Haoran said with a smile. "I wonder who it was that recommended your subordinate to you? If I have the chance, I must thank them properly. Otherwise, I fear your subordinate might never catch the Divine Emissary's eye in his lifetime."

"Gold always shines eventually; it's merely a matter of time. As for the person who recommended you to me, you needn't go out of your way to thank them, so you don't need to know who they are."

Since Luo Yao wouldn't say, Yang Haoran naturally dared not ask further, merely smiling and assenting.

"I have one more question: where do your medicines come from? Do you refine them yourself?"

Luo Yao asked, a hint of curiosity in his tone.

"Your subordinate does not know how to refine Dānyào. Whether it's the medicines your subordinate uses or those currently sold in the pharmacy, they are all refined by a friend of mine. We are in a cooperative relationship, each taking what we need."

Upon hearing this, Luo Yao nodded lightly.

"No wonder you were so generous back then, taking out those medicinal liquids for others to consume without a hint of reluctance. So, it turns out you simply aren't lacking in such good stuff."

Yang Haoran was completely bewildered by what Luo Yao said. After a moment's thought, he finally understood which incident Luo Yao was referring to.

"Haha, your subordinate still cherishes the medicines he possesses. After all, it's not easy for my friend to refine these, and their cost is exorbitant; I usually can't bear to use them myself. However, we are all Underworld Officials; no matter how precious the medicinal liquid in my hands, I cannot stand by and watch others die."

Yang Haoran spoke with a smile, feigning a very generous demeanor.

"I've asked what needed to be asked, and I've understood what needed to be understood. Overall, I am quite satisfied with you, so next, I will tell you the serious matter."

Upon hearing this, Yang Haoran quickly expressed his stance.

"Divine Emissary, please give your commands without hesitation. No matter the task, your subordinate will exert his utmost effort to complete it and will absolutely not let the Divine Emissary down."

If lying brought down divine lightning, Yang Haoran would likely have been struck to a crisp by now. Despite his impassioned words, his true thoughts were quite different.

Luo Yao, of course, was unaware of Yang Haoran's inner thoughts, and thus was very satisfied with Yang Haoran's declaration.

"I trust you are already aware of the current situation with our Jingling Continent Underworld Office. The Spirit Masters are advancing ferociously, and we have suffered heavy losses, leading to a rapid decline in the number of Underworld Officials in our Jingling Continent Underworld Office. Many cities have been without an Emissary of Death for a long time, and the situation in these cities without Emissaries of Death is extremely chaotic. Therefore, I wish to transfer you from Lecheng. After all, remaining in a small place like Lecheng is somewhat beneath your talent. Only by going to a larger city can you gain a bigger platform for development, more fortuitous opportunities, and greater rewards. I wonder if you are willing to go?"

Without even a moment's thought, Yang Haoran immediately gave an affirmative response.

"Your subordinate is willing. Wherever the Divine Emissary transfers your subordinate, your subordinate will have no objections whatsoever."

Yang Haoran's words were pleasing to the ear, and his reply was straightforward, but inside, he was cursing up a storm. Lecheng was his base, and also his hometown. He held an extremely deep affection for this place, and he had invested a great deal of time and effort here. Now, just as things had finally stabilized, with no Spirit Masters causing trouble and no demons or ghosts stirring up mischief, he was being transferred away. It would be stranger if he wasn't cursing.

However, he could only curse internally. Of course, he wouldn't be so impulsive as to directly curse at Luo Yao; he didn't even utter a single word of complaint.

"Heh heh, you didn't even ask where I plan to transfer you, yet you agreed so readily. Aren't you afraid you'll regret it later?"

Luo Yao asked with a chuckle. From the moment he appeared until now, his expression had remained largely unchanged, appearing indifferent, giving off a stern and humorless impression. But now, he offered Yang Haoran a faint smile.

"Just now, your subordinate guaranteed the Divine Emissary that no matter where he is transferred, your subordinate will have no grievances and will exert full effort to complete the tasks assigned by the Divine Emissary. Therefore, there is no need for your subordinate to inquire about the destination. " Yang Haoran replied.

"Heh heh, whether your words are sincere or feigned, they are pleasant to my ears. However, it would be better if you let me finish speaking before making your decision, otherwise I worry you might curse me behind my back for tricking you later. " Luo Yao said with a smile.

"Your subordinate wouldn't dare! " Yang Haoran quickly assured.

"I want to transfer you to Gu Mo City. This Gu Mo City is one of the few large cities under my command; its territory is vast, and its resources are abundant. However, precisely because of this, it's a mixed bag of good and bad, extremely chaotic. Even in times of peace, it was like this. Now that the world is in great turmoil, Gu Mo City has naturally become even more chaotic. The previous Emissary of Death of Gu Mo City, although his strength hadn't yet reached the Earth Soul realm, was quite formidable among those who had opened their Heaven Soul. Yet, not long ago, he died tragically in Gu Mo City, so brutally that not even his soul remained."

At this point, Luo Yao paused, his gaze fixed on Yang Haoran. He wanted to see what kind of expression Yang Haoran would show after hearing his words: fear, trepidation, or perhaps regret.

Yet, it was none of those. Yang Haoran stood respectfully in place, his expression showing no change whatsoever. In fact, there was even a faint hint of excitement in his demeanor.

Seeing this, Luo Yao's smile deepened a few shades.

"Your strength certainly has a gap compared to the previous Emissary of Death in Gu Mo City. He died tragically there; if I transfer you to Gu Mo City, then you are very likely to meet the same fate. Are you not afraid? Do you still decide to go to Gu Mo City?"

Upon hearing this, a smile appeared on Yang Haoran's face. It was a very natural smile, devoid of helplessness or bitterness.

"Heh heh, of course I fear Soul Transformation, but your subordinate has some confidence in his own abilities; I don't believe I'll follow in his footsteps. Moreover, if I were to abandon an opportunity simply out of fear, then I might never have a chance to rise again in this lifetime. That's not my style. Therefore, I still decide to obey the Divine Emissary's arrangements and head to Gu Mo City."

Yang Haoran did not change his decision, which was precisely the outcome Luo Yao wanted to see. If Yang Haoran had truly changed his mind, even if he had only shown a hint of regret, the good impression Luo Yao had just formed of him would have vanished like smoke.

"Good. It seems I truly came to the right place today. Setting aside your abilities for a moment, at least your attitude has not disappointed me. I don't demand that you manage the Gu Mo City Underworld Office as well as the Lecheng Underworld Office. You only need to ensure the Gu Mo City Underworld Office establishes a firm foothold in Gu Mo City. If you can truly accomplish this, then I will certainly not shortchange you on benefits. My word is my bond!"

Luo Yao made his guarantee to Yang Haoran. Not only did Yang Haoran not seize the opportunity to extort Luo Yao, he instead uttered words of extreme shamelessness.

"To be able to share in the Divine Emissary's worries is your subordinate's honor. How could your subordinate possibly demand benefits from the Divine Emissary? Please rest assured, Divine Emissary, your subordinate will either complete the mission, or die in Gu Mo City. There will be no third possibility!"

Luo Yao nodded with a satisfied expression, then said with a smile.

"Although your strength has a gap compared to the previous Emissary of Death in Gu Mo City, you possess something he did not. Therefore, I believe you can complete the mission. I have high hopes for you!"

"Thank you for trusting your subordinate, Divine Emissary!"

"Time is pressing. I give you one day to handle affairs here in Lecheng. Tomorrow morning, you will depart for Gu Mo City. As for the Lecheng Underworld Office, I will have someone else come to take over then."
