Chapter 946: Where You Went Wrong

Han Fushi watched his master scold him again, feeling both helpless and aggrieved. However, he knew his master's fury had mostly subsided, so compared to before, a little of his trepidation had lessened.

"Your disciple was wrong."

Although a little of his trepidation had lessened, he still had to admit his mistake. Otherwise, he worried his master's anger would be reignited.

"Hmph, you say you were wrong, that sounds quite nice. But tell me, do you know what your greatest mistake was? " the Golden Talisman Master scoffed coldly, then questioned Han Fushi.

"I should have acted more discreetly. That way, they wouldn't have been able to gain leverage, and all this subsequent trouble wouldn't have arisen."

Han Fushi's words made the Golden Talisman Master's face instantly turn cold again.

"I just said that. Do you need to repeat it?"

Questioned like this by the Golden Talisman Master, Han Fushi was momentarily speechless, unsure how to respond.

"Look at your pathetic state; it's clear you haven't realized what your greatest mistake was at all!"

Han Fushi didn't dare refute, adopting the demeanor of an obedient disciple, and promptly replied.

"This disciple is slow-witted; please enlighten me, Master."

The Golden Talisman Master sighed, gently shook his head, a look of disappointment on his face.

"How could I have a disciple like you? Even at this point, you still don't know your greatest mistake. Since that's the case, I'll tell you. Your greatest mistake was knowing the matter had come to light, yet instead of figuring out how to distance yourself from it, you foolishly went and protected that fellow. Are you an idiot? !"

The man pointed at Qin Yefeng's corpse on the ground and angrily cursed at Han Fushi. By the end of his tirade, a fresh surge of anger couldn't help but rise in his heart.

"Master's lesson is right. It's all because I was momentarily possessed by greed, my mind clouded by profit, that I made such a foolish decision. But the benefits he promised me then were truly tempting; I simply couldn't resist."

Han Fushi's words brought a hint of confusion to the Golden Talisman Master's face. He understood his disciple quite well; though his disciple wasn't particularly clever, he wasn't truly an idiot either. Without sufficient incentive, he shouldn't have done such a foolish thing.

"What benefits did he promise you?"

Out of confusion and curiosity, the Golden Talisman Master questioned Han Fushi. He wanted to know what kind of benefits could possibly be worth his disciple acting in such a way.

"As long as I was willing to protect him and help him get rid of Yang Haoran, he would, afterward, publicly announce himself as a follower of our Talisman Order. Furthermore, he would find ways to gradually eliminate all forces within Ancheng, leaving only our Talisman Order. Not just that, once Yang Haoran was killed and Lecheng successfully occupied, he would likewise find ways to gradually ensure that Lecheng also had only our Talisman Order as its sole religion."

After listening to Han Fushi's words, the Golden Talisman Master's brows furrowed tightly, his face lost in thought. A moment later, he shook his head at Han Fushi.

"He certainly painted quite a grand picture for you. It's just that achieving such a thing isn't so easy. Your Ancheng Administrative Chief's office simply doesn't have that capability, at least not yet. At that time, our Talisman Order would still have to lend a hand in secret, and even then, there's no guarantee of achieving the desired effect," the Golden Talisman Master said.

"Your disciple considered that as well. Although the risk is great, the returns are astonishing. If successful, Ancheng and Lecheng would eventually have only our Talisman Order as a religious force, and all believers would have to worship the Talisman Ancestor. That would be an amazing achievement! Both I and Master would see our status within the Talisman Order rise significantly because of it. It was precisely this consideration that led me to agree to protect Qin Yefeng and cooperate with him with all my might," Han Fushi explained.

"High risk, low success rate—such a venture is best avoided. Today's lesson is a clear example," the Golden Talisman Master stated.

"Master is right; today's incident truly served as a lesson."

Speaking of which, Han Fushi suddenly recalled something, and a furious killing intent appeared on his face.

"I had thought that even if Yang Haoran knew the assassination attempt had something to do with me, he would absolutely not dare cause trouble at our Talisman Order. I never imagined that fellow would be so brazen. Otherwise, I wouldn't have lost so much face for Master today."

At the mention of Yang Haoran, the Golden Talisman Master's brows likewise furrowed tightly. Had Han Fushi brought up Yang Haoran before the Golden Talisman Master's anger had fully vented, he would undoubtedly have been cursed to hell and back. But now, his fury had mostly run its course, so when Han Fushi spoke of Yang Haoran, he didn't fly into a rage. Instead, he began to reassess Yang Haoran from a rational perspective.

"This person has a mind, depth, and cunning; he's also very composed. He knows I wouldn't dare kill him, which is why he dares to push his luck. Compared to him, you're far inferior in terms of intellect."

If anyone else had said such words to him, Han Fushi would certainly have taught them a harsh lesson to show them his power and prove his strength. But with the Golden Talisman Master giving him such an appraisal, he didn't dare refute a single word, let alone make a move to teach the Golden Talisman Master a lesson.

Of course, a sense of resentment brewed in his heart, for he didn't believe himself to be inferior to Yang Haoran, especially when it came to intellect.

Han Fushi still knew why his master hadn't dared to kill Yang Haoran. The commotion earlier had been too great; not only had people from other factions shown up, but there were certainly others secretly observing the spectacle. Thus, his master's appearance was no secret, known to many.

In such circumstances, if Yang Haoran and Xu Meijing had died here, others would undoubtedly have believed his master was responsible. Not only would others think so, but even he himself would have thought the same.

It was precisely for this reason that his master, despite being utterly furious, hadn't killed Yang Haoran and Xu Meijing. Instead, he had ended up being blackmailed by Yang Haoran for a Golden Talisman.

"This failure was all because of Yang Haoran. Just wait until I get a chance; once I seize an opportunity, I'll make him disappear from this world!"

Han Fushi spoke with a face full of anger. He had already harbored intense resentment and killing intent towards Yang Haoran, but now, the Golden Talisman Master had drawn a comparison between them, directly stating that he was inferior to Yang Haoran. This instantly caused the killing intent and resentment in his heart to multiply.

"Hmph, kill him? Can you even do it? With that muddled brain of yours, I'm afraid that Underworld Official, Yang Haoran, will play you to your death."

The Golden Talisman Master first let out a cold snort, then spoke to Han Fushi. His words were quite provoking to Han Fushi; though Han Fushi didn't dare openly refute him, the resentment in his heart couldn't help but show on his face.

The Golden Talisman Master observed Han Fushi's reaction in his expression, knowing Han Fushi was unconvinced, and so he spoke.

"Hmph, don't you dare be unconvinced! This time, even with a Lock Yin Talisman, you couldn't kill him. What are you even talking about for the future?"

The Golden Talisman Master's words silenced Han Fushi, leaving him unable to utter a single word.

"But I still can't figure it out: you had a Lock Yin Talisman in your hands, and a Black Talisman-grade one at that, yet you still failed? I don't know if this Yang Haoran is too formidable, or if you're simply too foolish," the Golden Talisman Master said.

"Yang Haoran and Xu Meijing only became Emissaries of Death a few years ago, one responsible for Ancheng, the other for Lecheng. Yang Haoran, in particular, took the position of Emissary of Death not long after becoming a Night Watcher; his time in the Underworld Office is far shorter than Xu Meijing's. Logically speaking, no matter how strong he is, he shouldn't be *that* strong. I had a confrontation with him today, and his power was indeed much greater than I anticipated. But even so, when faced with a Black Talisman-grade Lock Yin Talisman, he should still have been greatly affected. As long as he was struck by the Lock Yin Talisman, killing him wouldn't have been difficult."

Han Fushi's words brought a disdainful sneer to the Golden Talisman Master's face, and he then questioned Han Fushi.

"Then what was the outcome?"

As for the outcome, it goes without saying. Yang Haoran was alive and well, the woman sent to assassinate him was dead, and Yang Haoran had even come here to stir up trouble.

Han Fushi felt a little embarrassed, then pushed all the responsibility onto that woman from the Administrative Chief's office.

"Sigh, it's all that incompetent woman from the Administrative Chief's office! If it had been me, Yang Haoran's soul would already be in my hands right now. How would he ever have had the chance to be so arrogant!"
