Chapter 81 The Appearance of the Red Dress

With the patter-patter of footsteps, another person entered the living room.

The newcomer was a woman, very young and beautiful, dressed gracefully and appropriately, exuding an elegant aura.

The living room was somewhat chaotic. After the woman stepped in, she was clearly startled, but she quickly masked her surprise, a smile appearing on her face.

"Uncle Wu, hello."

The woman first politely bowed to Old Master Wu and greeted him, then smiled and exchanged greetings with the other Wu family members.

She knew the Wu family, and they all knew her.

However, it seemed that no one else, including Old Master Wu, held her in high regard; their attitude towards her was quite cold.

Ordinarily, even if Old Master Wu didn't particularly like this woman, he would maintain appearances and wouldn't show his displeasure to her face. But at this moment, Old Master Wu was fuming, and his expression was far from pleasant. He merely gave the woman a cold nod, which served as his reply.

The woman noticed the Wu family's coldness, but she didn't show any displeasure. Looking at the cluttered living room, she spoke with a smile, "Why is the house such a mess?"

Those two words—'the house'—made the Wu family's expressions turn even uglier.

The woman paid no mind to how the Wu family viewed her at that moment, nor to their displeased expressions. As soon as she finished speaking, she began tidying the living room on her own.

Old Master Wu wanted to tell the woman not to touch anything. However, at that very moment, Wu Junior emerged from his room, tipsy, a car key still clutched in his hand.

Driving under the influence was irresponsible, both to himself and to others, yet Wu Junior had never taken it seriously. Even after getting into an accident, he would return to retrieve his car as if nothing had happened, still planning to go out and fool around—utterly reckless.

"Lu Lu, what are you doing? This isn't something you should be doing. Put that down quickly; let's go out and have some fun."

Seeing the woman tidying up, Wu Junior quickly stopped her, then dangled the car key in front of her, a smile on his face, and began pulling her out the door.

"No rush," the woman said with a smile. "Let's tidy up the house first before we leave. It's still early anyway."

"They're just putting on a ghostly act in here. Why bother with them? Even if you tidy the place up now, they'll just mess it up again in a bit, so there's absolutely no need for you to do this."

As Wu Junior spoke, he shot a contemptuous glance at Yang Haoran and the other two, then forcibly dragged the woman away.

The woman gave a helpless expression, then offered an apologetic smile to the Wu family, preparing to leave with Wu Junior. However, at that very moment, Yang Haoran, who had remained silent until now, suddenly spoke.

"Wait."

Yang Haoran's words naturally drew everyone's attention. Old Master Wu desperately wanted Wu Junior, this prodigal son, to leave quickly so that Yang Haoran and the two others could thoroughly rid the house of evil spirits. With Wu Junior around, he was very worried the good-for-nothing would ruin things. Yet, he hadn't expected Yang Haoran to actually stop them from leaving.

A puzzled expression appeared on Old Master Wu's face. Then, as if something dawned on him, his expression suddenly shifted, and he forced a faint smile.

"Gentlemen, my son is ignorant. His words are like farts, and when he's drunk, he spews nothing but nonsense. Please don't take his words to heart. For his offense, I apologize to the three of you here."

Yang Haoran suddenly stopping Wu Junior, in Old Master Wu's eyes, most likely meant his son's harsh words had angered Yang Haoran, prompting the immediate apology.

Fueled by alcohol, Wu Junior's temper instantly flared upon hearing this. Old Master Wu's attitude towards Yang Haoran and the others already annoyed him, and being stopped by Yang Haoran further irritated him. But what truly infuriated him was Old Master Wu publicly humiliating him.

The rage boiling within Wu Junior made him uncomfortable all over. If he didn't immediately vent his inner fury, he felt his body would explode.

He needed to unleash his anger, and the target of his wrath naturally became Yang Haoran, who had stopped him.

Just as Wu Junior was about to explode, Yang Haoran suddenly activated his Ghost Eye. His eyes, devoid of whites, gave off an eerie, chilling sensation, and the Yin Qi emanating from them intensified this strangeness even further.

Wu Junior froze, then his face filled with terror, his body uncontrollably trembling. Yang Haoran's sudden activation of his Ghost Eye truly startled him. Already fueled by alcohol, he instantly felt a chill run through his entire body, sobering up quite a bit.

"You—you—you—you—"

Wu Junior's tongue tied itself in knots as he pointed at Yang Haoran, unable to utter a single coherent word. Yang Haoran, meanwhile, ignored Wu Junior and gave a meaningful look to Wang Yiming beside him.

Wang Yiming understood immediately. With a wave of his hand, a Yellow Talisman was conjured. The talisman ignited in mid-air, and a wave of power swiftly spread outwards.

After the woman appeared, none of the three—Yang Haoran, Wang Yiming, or Ma Ling—spoke. But they weren't idle; they were quietly discussing something. It was precisely because of this unspoken agreement that a single glance from Yang Haoran was enough for Wang Yiming to know what to do.

The talisman Wang Yiming conjured at this moment wasn't some new type, but rather the Revealing Talisman he had used before.

As the power of the Revealing Talisman erupted, everyone's gaze collectively locked onto Wu Junior and the woman beside him, specifically behind them.

The already extremely cold living room became even more chilling at this moment, as if they had been plunged into an ice cellar.

The lamp hanging overhead began to flicker erratically, and the buzzing of electricity became the sole sound in the living room at that moment.

Chilling gusts of cold air emanated from behind them. As if sensing that something was amiss, Wu Junior and the woman exchanged glances, then slowly twisted their bodies to look behind them.

The sight behind them made both Wu Junior's and the woman's pupils suddenly dilate, their facial expressions freezing in place.

Behind the two of them stood a woman dressed in a red gown and red skirt. More accurately, she wasn't standing, but floating in mid-air.

The woman's hair was very long, covering her entire face, obscuring her features. Precisely because of this, she instilled a sense of dread that emanated from the very depths of one's soul.

Compounded by the flickering, dim light illuminating the female ghost, the scene before them became even more terrifying.

After a brief few seconds of stunned silence, both Wu Junior and the woman reacted. They shrieked, then scrambled away, tumbling and crawling in different directions.

In such a situation, Wu Junior completely cast the woman from his mind. Similarly, the woman didn't think of Wu Junior at that moment. Neither of them had the other in their thoughts.

Their terrified screams roused the rest of the Wu family. Aside from Wu Xiaoxiao, the others didn't shriek, not because they weren't scared, but because their previous experiences had slightly bolstered their tolerance. Their pale faces and trembling bodies, however, revealed that the sight before them still filled them with great terror.

The red-dressed female ghost paid no attention to Wu Junior and the woman who had scurried far to the side. She merely floated there, her eyes, hidden beneath her black hair, seemingly fixed on Yang Haoran and the other two.

"The red dress. . . I've seen that red dress! It's her! It's her! She's the female ghost I saw that night!"

Wu Xiaoxiao's terrified cries echoed through the hall. She had wanted to speak earlier, after Yang Haoran captured the two male and female ghosts, because the female ghost she had seen was not among the two taken into the Soul-Gathering Bead, but she hadn't voiced it.

One reason was the fear in her heart that prevented her from speaking. Another was that she had thought it was merely a hallucination that night, believing the red-dressed female ghost she saw was either an illusion that didn't truly exist, or simply the female ghost that had already been captured.

Therefore, she had remained silent then.

But now, under the power of Wang Yiming's Revealing Talisman, the red-dressed female ghost was forced to manifest her Spirit Body. Wu Xiaoxiao recognized her at a glance, and the fear spreading within her compelled her to involuntarily shriek it out.

No one paid any mind to the screaming Wu Xiaoxiao. Everyone else in the entire hall, save for Yang Haoran, Ma Ling, and Wang Yiming, involuntarily retreated towards the edges of the room.

This time, Old Master Wu was no exception. When facing the male ghost, he had the courage to suppress the fear in his heart, and precisely because of that, the male ghost couldn't make him hallucinate.

However, facing this red-dressed female ghost before him, Old Master Wu felt a profound chill throughout his entire body for some unknown reason. He couldn't muster even a shred of courage; his whole being was consumed by terror.

Even though—even though—this female ghost did nothing, said nothing, merely floated there silently in mid-air.
