Chapter 799: The New Head of the Talisman Order

"Master, rest assured, your subordinate will definitely extract the information you desire from her. May I inquire what information you seek?"

Tang Shi first offered his assurance, then inquired about the information Yang Haoran wished to obtain.

"It is said that there exists a method of power inheritance among Talisman Masters of the Talisman Order. I cannot confirm if this is true or false, so I need you to confirm it with this old Talisman Master. If such a method truly exists, and this old Talisman Master understands it, then you are to learn from her."

During the two days Wang Yiming and Jiang Die spent recuperating, Yang Haoran found an opportunity to activate his Ghost Eye on the Old Crone's soul.

He did this, of course, not merely to understand the Old Crone's past, but to obtain the information he sought: the rumored method of power inheritance among the Talisman Masters of the Talisman Order.

However, while the Ghost Eye could peer into a deceased person's past, it could not reveal every single detail. After all, the Ghost Eye was not omnipotent, and thus he had not obtained the information he desired.

The Ghost Eye's failure to retrieve the desired information did not necessarily mean the Old Crone genuinely lacked it; a precise judgment could only be made after various cruel interrogations.

Yang Haoran was quite experienced in interrogating ghostly entities. As an Underworld Official, if he lacked the means to interrogate ghosts, it would only invite ridicule.

Not only did he possess such methods, but they were quite effective.

However, he was eager to refine the Soul Pills and swiftly open his Earth Soul, thus he did not wish to waste time on the Old Crone.

Furthermore, today he had acquired six Evil Spirits from Tang Shi. Since Tang Shi could not subdue these six Evil Spirits, Yang Haoran decided to use them to refine Soul Pills, which would also consume some of his time.

He had also considered subduing these six Evil Spirits himself, but after brief consideration, he dismissed the idea. Even if he subdued these six Evil Spirits, or any one of them, they would eventually be handed over to Tang Shi's management. It was highly probable they would not obey Tang Shi, causing inconvenience for his administration, so he simply abandoned that thought.

Since he couldn't spare the time, he might as well entrust the Old Crone's matter to Tang Shi. Tang Shi was quite experienced in this area; he had performed admirably when interrogating the souls of Spirit Masters and extracting various Spiritual Arts from them. Therefore, Yang Haoran decided to hand the task over to Tang Shi.

If Tang Shi proved unable to handle the matter, he would personally contend with the old Talisman Master later. Since he dared to kill the old Talisman Master, he naturally had to see the matter through and would certainly not ignore her fate.

Regardless of whether the old Talisman Master cooperated or not, there would only be one ultimate outcome; it was merely a question of how much torment she would endure.

"Master, rest assured, your subordinate will do his utmost to acquire the information you desire. As long as she knows about it, your subordinate will definitely make her speak."

Yang Haoran was very satisfied with Tang Shi's attitude. He smiled and nodded, then spoke.

"Proceed without restraint. Feel free to use any methods at your disposal. However, before her soul fully awakens, you should not forcibly rouse it. Doing so could potentially cause damage to her soul, and might even affect her memory. Although this possibility is small, it's always better to be cautious. Once her soul awakens naturally, you may do as you please."

Yang Haoran offered the reminder. His reason for not forcibly awakening the Old Crone's soul included this consideration: forcibly awakening a soul before it has naturally revived indeed carries the risk of damaging it. If the soul were damaged under such circumstances, any number of unpredictable effects could arise; though the probability was low, the possibility genuinely existed.

Therefore, to achieve his objective, he had to reduce the risk to zero. Once the soul awakened, any further torment would only weaken or destroy it, eliminating this particular risk.

Tang Shi nodded in assent, then retrieved a Soul Concealing Bottle and collected the Old Crone's soul.

"I'll be going now. If anything comes up, you can use a Communication Talisman to report directly to me. Don't be stingy; those things are worthless in my eyes."

Seeing Yang Haoran about to depart, Tang Shi quickly spoke.

"Master, your subordinate has meticulously examined every collection item here. Although some items' uses and values remain unknown to your subordinate, I believe that with your discernment, Master, you will recognize them. Furthermore, among the items your subordinate does recognize, several are quite valuable. Does Master wish to take them all?"

Yang Haoran swept his gaze over the various collectibles in the display room, then smiled and shook his head.

"Leave them here for now. If you or the spirits under your command have a need, you may allocate them as appropriate. As for the items you have absolutely no use for, I will handle them uniformly later."

After giving his instructions, Yang Haoran did not touch the collectibles, nor did he linger further in the Ghost Cave. Upon leaving the Ghost Cave, he returned to the villa.

Over the following period, he first refined the six Evil Spirits into Soul Pills, then fully dedicated himself to refining Soul Pills at home, striving to open his Earth Soul as soon as possible.

As for that precious Soul Crystal, he currently had no intention of using such a treasure. The Soul Pills he possessed were entirely sufficient at the moment; there was simply no need to use such a valuable item prematurely. Keeping it on hand might prove greatly useful at a critical moment.

A few days later, Old Master Wu brought back news—news concerning the Talisman Order. Wang Yiming had become the new head of the Lecheng Talisman Order.

This news surprised Yang Haoran somewhat. He wasn't surprised that Wang Yiming and Jiang Die were able to eradicate the Old Crone's remaining faction, as Wang Yiming himself had stated that he and Jiang Die could handle the remaining affairs of the Talisman Order.

However, that Wang Yiming would become the head of the Talisman Order truly exceeded his expectations. After all, Wang Yiming had only recently broken through to the Black Talisman Master realm. Neither his strength nor his seniority suggested he should be next in line, which was why Yang Haoran found it surprising.

In response to Yang Haoran's confusion, Old Master Wu provided an explanation. According to the information Old Master Wu had gathered, Wang Yiming was able to assume the position of head of the Talisman Order because he was elected by other Talisman Masters, and the higher-ups of the Talisman Order had also approved the matter. Thus, Wang Yiming naturally became the new head of the Lecheng Talisman Order.

The information Old Master Wu had gathered amounted to this much; he had not uncovered more detailed specifics. This was because the matter involved certain internal secrets of the Talisman Order, which were not easily ferreted out.

To fully clarify the matter was not impossible, but it would require expending some time and effort. Therefore, Old Master Wu asked Yang Haoran if he wished to proceed in that manner.

Yang Haoran had no intention of digging deeper into this matter. Although he harbored some doubts, Wang Yiming becoming the head of the Lecheng Talisman Order was a good thing for him. After all, Wang Yiming was his friend, not his enemy, so there was no need for him to get to the bottom of it.

After concluding his report on the Talisman Order, Old Master Wu then gave Yang Haoran a detailed account of recent Underworld Office affairs: where followers of the Spiritual God had been discovered, where traces of Spirit Mediums had appeared, how many Spirit Mediums had been captured, how many Spiritual God temples had been destroyed, and how many casualties their own side had sustained. Old Master Wu reported everything clearly to Yang Haoran.

After listening to the report, Yang Haoran gained a new understanding of the recent situation regarding Spirit Mediums in Lecheng. He made some simple arrangements and specifically reminded Old Master Wu to be mindful of his safety. When encountering issues that could not be resolved, he absolutely must not stubbornly force it, but must notify Yang Haoran immediately, and he would personally intervene to handle it.

Old Master Wu did not linger long at the villa, as there were many mundane tasks for him, as second-in-command of the Underworld Office, to handle. So, after Yang Haoran finished his arrangements, he departed the villa and rushed back to the South Lake Death God Temple.

The day after Old Master Wu left, Wang Yiming also arrived at Yang Haoran's villa. This time, however, he hadn't come to Yang Haoran's place to flee for his life.

Moreover, his identity had undergone a tremendous change; he was no longer the traitor who had deliberately murdered his master, but rather the new head of the Lecheng Talisman Order.
