Chapter 722: Double Array

Everyone possessed their own spatial dimension. While they might not remember every single item contained within, they generally knew what was there and could perceive the contents of their spatial dimension through a unique sensory ability.

The reason for such preparations was to more effectively and swiftly deploy their desired techniques, preventing any unforeseen mishaps.

Ma Yuanjin’s array had yet to be fully laid out, but the others had already made their preparations. No one uttered a word, waiting for Ma Yuanjin to complete his formation.

What kind of formation Ma Yuanjin was currently setting up, the present individuals weren't entirely sure. However, one thing they could discern was that this array belonged to the category of 'static arrays'.

A 'static array', as it was called, was a formation composed of various lifeless, specialized artifacts. The potency of such an array depended on the artifacts used in its construction and the inherent power of the formation itself.

The artifacts Ma Yuanjin employed for this formation were peculiar. There were ghastly white skulls, fangs from unknown beasts, and eyeballs that sent chills down one's spine. Besides these macabre items, there were other things Yang Haoran simply couldn't comprehend.

These items were meticulously placed by Ma Yuanjin around the Town Soul Tower. To an outsider, it might have looked like a chaotic jumble, but those present were no ordinary folk. They knew perfectly well that a mere random arrangement could never constitute a powerful array. Ma Yuanjin’s current placement of these items, though seemingly disorderly, undoubtedly concealed profound mysteries and adhered to a specific pattern unknown to laymen.

After Ma Yuanjin finished arranging all the necessary items, he then used his fingertip as a brush, beginning to draw symbols around the Town Soul Tower.

Though he appeared to be merely a bag of old bones, one of those individuals with "half a foot in the grave," his speed was exceptionally swift while drawing the array.

Spirit Energy condensed at his fingertip, his bony finger becoming as sharp as a keen sword. Wherever it passed, be it soil or rock, it was effortlessly cut through.

In the span of time it would take to smoke a single cigarette, Ma Yuanjin ceased his movements, the entire array successfully completed under his fingertip.

While the others present couldn't fully comprehend it, they instinctively knew that the formation Ma Yuanjin had personally laid out was undoubtedly extraordinary, otherwise it wouldn't have consumed such a significant amount of his time.

After the formation was successfully laid out, Ma Yuanjin did not stop there. Instead, with a wave of his hand, he retrieved a set of Formation Flags from his spatial dimension.

Several Formation Flags and an Array Disk floated suspended before him. He extended a withered finger, pointing at the floating flags from a distance. The Formation Flags soared upwards, then spread out above, circling around the Town Soul Tower.

Ma Yuanjin grasped the floating Array Disk in his hand, then pointed a finger at it. As power surged into it, the Array Disk was activated, and all the Formation Flags, under his command, shot downwards.

With a series of swishing sounds that cut through the air, several Formation Flags, controlled by Ma Yuanjin, plunged into the ground around the Town Soul Tower.

The mountain wind swept by, and the flags’ leaves swayed with it. As Ma Yuanjin once more activated the Array Disk in his hand, the deeply embedded Formation Flags suddenly spun rapidly, then completely sank into the ground and vanished.

Ma Yuanjin had already set up a static array around the Town Soul Tower, but it seemed he was still not entirely at ease with just that. Thus, he retrieved another set of Formation Flags and laid out a second array.

Formations constructed using Formation Flags were, in fact, also a type of static array. The only difference lay in the components used for their creation. The latter method was generally more convenient than the former, as Formation Flags replaced the need for various individual artifacts.

As for which of these two methods produced a stronger formation, there was no absolute answer. The key lay in the specific type of formation being constructed, which encompassed what was known as the array’s inherent power.

Furthermore, the materials used to set up the array were also crucial. The same formation, constructed with different materials, would yield varying degrees of power.

By the same token, formations established using Formation Flags also depended on the materials used to refine the flags themselves. Different refining materials would result in completely different levels of power for the same type of formation.

Thus, although both were static arrays, there was truly no fixed determination of which was inherently stronger or weaker.

Nevertheless, the Formation Flags Ma Yuanjin would produce at this moment were certainly not ordinary. Their power was absolutely extraordinary; otherwise, he would never have brought them out at this juncture.

If he were to use Formation Flags that were too weak, they would be unable to suppress the spiritual entity. Not only would he make a fool of himself, but he might also put himself in peril. Naturally, he wished to avoid such an outcome.

The Formation Flags vanished beneath the earth, disappearing utterly without a trace, as if they had never appeared. There wasn't the slightest mark on the ground, not even the most minimal perforation.

Ma Yuanjin closed his eyes, sensing for a moment. After confirming that everything was in order, he turned his gaze to Zhang Changchun and nodded.

Zhang Changchun understood his meaning, and so turned his gaze towards Yang Haoran and Xu Meijing.

"Divine Envoys, all preparations are complete. You may now open your Heaven Souls."

Previously, neither Yang Haoran nor Xu Meijing had opened their Heaven Souls. Zhang Changchun had noted this, but found it difficult to say anything.

Now that everyone else’s preparations were complete and Ma Yuanjin had successfully laid out the formation, Yang Haoran and Xu Meijing, these two Yin Officers, still hadn’t opened their Heaven Souls. Therefore, he had no choice but to offer a reminder.

As for why he insisted on them opening their Heaven Souls first, Zhang Changchun naturally had his considerations. He was well aware of this ghost’s strength; if the two didn't open their Heaven Souls, they simply wouldn't be able to inflict significant damage upon it. Only by opening their Heaven Souls and summoning their Soul Armaments could they gravely wound this ghost in a short amount of time.

Although Zhang Changchun didn’t explicitly state this, Yang Haoran and Xu Meijing were not fools; they naturally understood the implication of his words.

The two exchanged glances, said nothing, then nodded to each other.

Subsequently, both simultaneously opened their Heaven Souls, and powerful energy fluctuations immediately erupted from within their bodies.

Neither of them unleashed their full power; instead, they exerted their utmost effort to suppress their strength, making the released energy fluctuations appear as weak as possible.

Although they didn’t communicate verbally, both clearly understood in their hearts that unleashing their full power would undoubtedly arouse suspicion from the others present. Thus, by unspoken agreement, they suppressed the power unleashed after opening their Heaven Souls to its absolute minimum.

Yet, even with their power suppressed to the lowest possible degree, the energy fluctuations that erupted were still exceedingly formidable.

Wailing Yin winds whistled, and the temperature of the area abruptly plummeted. The faces of all those present shifted, each one surprised. None of them had anticipated that Yang Haoran and Xu Meijing would unleash such formidable energy fluctuations.

Regarding the astonishment of those present, neither Yang Haoran nor Xu Meijing had any intention of offering an explanation. Xu Meijing slowly drew forth her Soul Armament, Life Ender, from the Yin Qi swirling beside her, while Yang Haoran summoned his Soul Armament, Remnant Moon.

Life Ender’s black, slender blade emanated a peculiar beauty. Held in Xu Meijing’s hand, it imbued her with an added touch of domineering presence.

As for Yang Haoran’s Remnant Moon, it gleamed with cold light, emitting a buzzing hum behind him as it slowly rotated.

"Once you're ready, begin. Don't waste everyone's time."

Xu Meijing’s aloof voice snapped the others out of their surprise. Although they were all taken aback by the energy fluctuations unleashed by her and Yang Haoran, no one was foolish enough to directly voice their questions.

"Everyone, please prepare yourselves. I shall open the Town Soul Tower now! Once the spiritual entity inside rushes out, you must greet it with your strongest techniques, crippling it immediately!"

Zhang Changchun spoke in a deep voice, but before he could even open the Town Soul Tower, it suddenly trembled slightly. Streaks of black Yin Qi actually began to appear on its white jade body; this black Yin Qi did not breach the Town Soul Tower’s seal but merely circulated within its structure.

Everyone present witnessed this scene, and some even felt a wave of ill premonition wash over them.

This sudden development seemed to indicate that the spiritual entity inside had sensed their presence and the impending attack, which was why the Town Soul Tower reacted in such a way.

Whether it was because the spiritual entity was too enraged, or if it was deliberately provoking them, remained unknown.

Zhang Changchun also noticed the sudden anomaly of the Town Soul Tower. He hesitated for just a single moment, then fiercely gritted his teeth and ultimately chose to open the Town Soul Tower!
