Chapter 710: Calculated

As the Guardian Spirit's voice rang out, a dense, teeming mass of bone spikes formed in the space before him.

These bone spikes were an inky black, each one gleaming with a cold light. One glance was enough to tell they were incredibly sharp; a single hit would surely riddle a target like a honeycomb.

As for why he shouted when casting his spell, this wasn't to warn his opponent. Rather, it was to intimidate them, to bolster his own momentum, and to enhance his aura.

It's often said that one shouldn't lose their imposing aura in a fight, and there's truth to that. When your aura rises, you fight with increasing ferocity.

It's similar to why soldiers roar during a charge in battle. It has little to do with warning the opponent; after all, in battles between non-ordinary individuals, even if you don't shout, the other party will still sense the power fluctuations.

Of course, not everyone shares this habit; it varies from person to person and depends on the specific situation.

With the bone spikes coalesced, the Guardian Spirit waved his hand, letting out a loud cry.

"Go! ! !"

A whooshing sound pierced the air as an overwhelming barrage of bone spikes shot towards Yang Haoran's area. These spikes were incredibly dense, completely blanketing the region where Yang Haoran stood.

Seeing this, the Old Town Head smiled. He didn't control the Bone Blade to continue attacking Yang Haoran; instead, he made it hover high in the air, searching for an opportunity for a decisive killing blow!

The bone spikes were not as fast as the Bone Blade, and certainly not as fast as Remnant Moon, but their speed was by no means slow. Coupled with the Guardian Spirit's relatively close proximity to Yang Haoran, these bone spikes reached a point ten meters above Yang Haoran's head in the blink of an eye!

This time, Yang Haoran didn't dodge. He knew that such a dense attack was difficult to evade, but that was only one reason; if he were determined to dodge, it wasn't impossible to escape these bone spikes.

Beyond that, there was another reason: a Bone Blade was currently suspended directly above his head. The Old Town Head was waiting precisely for him to make a dodging move. Even if he successfully evaded these sharp bone spikes, could he escape the Bone Blade hanging above him?

Yang Haoran did think that evading the Bone Blade wasn't impossible, but he wasn't willing to take that risk. When there was clearly a better way to handle it, why insist on showing off?

He didn't dodge; instead, he immediately recalled his Soul Armament, Remnant Moon.

Remnant Moon and the Evil Spirit, two colossal entities, were locked in a fierce, inseparable battle in the sky. Remnant Moon was at a disadvantage, with the Evil Spirit holding the upper hand. Just as the Evil Spirit's fist descended, expecting to strike Remnant Moon and send it flying, it unexpectedly hit nothing but air. Remnant Moon transformed into a mass of Yin Qi and vanished, reappearing directly in front of Yang Haoran.

Although Yang Haoran had used this move before, it remained highly effective now, for neither the Evil Spirit, nor the Guardian Spirit, nor the Old Town Head could prevent Yang Haoran from executing it.

Remnant Moon's appearance blocked the dense incoming bone spikes. The sharp bone spikes struck Remnant Moon, emitting a series of crisp clinking sounds.

The Guardian Spirit's expression remained unchanged, as he continued to control more bone spikes, relentlessly assaulting Remnant Moon. It seemed he either intended to forcibly break through Remnant Moon in this manner or perhaps wished to suppress Yang Haoran through this tactic.

Witnessing this scene, the Old Town Head's face showed no sign of exasperation; instead, he let out a sneer.

"Heh heh, Divine Emissary Yang, don't think you're safe just because you're hiding beneath your Soul Armament. This will only make you die faster."

The Old Town Head seemed to have long anticipated Yang Haoran's move, thus his face showed not the slightest hint of surprise.

As his words fell, the Bone Blade suspended above Yang Haoran's head suddenly moved!

However, this Bone Blade did not slash down at Yang Haoran below; instead, it shot towards the Evil Spirit that was charging at Yang Haoran.

The Bone Blade was formed from the Old Town Head's Spiritual Art, and the Evil Spirit was also a product of his Spiritual Art. Both of these methods were intended for use against Yang Haoran, yet now, he was actually controlling the Bone Blade to strike the Evil Spirit!

With a flash of white light, the Bone Blade appeared before the Evil Spirit. The Evil Spirit's body paused, and the Bone Blade likewise stopped, hovering in mid-air before it.

The Old Town Head wore a cold sneer, his hand seals rapidly changing. Beneath his command, the Bone Blade suddenly surged with a dense black smoke!

A muffled sound emanated from within the Bone Blade. Its size suddenly exploded, and in the blink of an eye, it transformed into a massive blade over ten meters long.

Gazing at the ten-meter-long great blade before it, the Evil Spirit burst into laughter, then extended both hands and grasped the Bone Blade's hilt.

"Kill him for me!"

The Old Town Head grinned maliciously and issued his command. The Evil Spirit charged towards Yang Haoran, both hands exerting fierce power, swinging the Bone Blade — composed of white bones — and violently chopping down at Yang Haoran below.

With that single strike, cracks appeared in space itself. Before the Bone Blade even arrived, its blade qi had already shattered the bone spikes conjured by the Guardian Spirit. Subsequently, Yang Haoran's Soul Armament, Remnant Moon, also felt the impact of the blade qi, beginning to tremble slightly.

The Evil Spirit's strike was an indiscriminate attack, shattering even the Guardian Spirit's bone spikes. The Old Town Head felt no regret over this, as it was clear from the previous situation that the Guardian Spirit's bone spikes could not possibly break through the defense formed by Yang Haoran's Soul Armament.

And Yang Haoran's act of recalling his Soul Armament had, by chance, given him an opportunity to combine his two Spiritual Arts, turning the Evil Spirit into an executioner wielding a Bone Blade.

The blade qi shattered the bone spikes, but it failed to shatter Remnant Moon. However, the Bone Blade then landed a solid strike on Remnant Moon!

Boom! ! !

A deafening roar erupted. Although Remnant Moon blocked the Bone Blade, it trembled violently. Judging by the situation, it wouldn't be able to hold on for much longer.

Yang Haoran truly hadn't expected the Old Town Head to pull off such a move, and its power was far greater than he had imagined. By his estimation, if this continued, Remnant Moon would shatter from the relentless assault in a mere few breaths of time.

Facing this situation, his first thought was to inject a large amount of Spirit Power into Remnant Moon to enhance its strength. However, just as this idea formed in his mind, a surge of power suddenly descended upon him.

This power did not cause any harm to his physical body; however, it restrained his movements, causing his body to no longer obey his commands.

Yang Haoran, of course, knew what was happening for this situation to occur. He was being controlled by the Evil Spirit's object control ability. It must have been the Guardian Spirit, seizing this opportune moment, who had directed its object control power onto his physical body.

In previous battles, this Guardian Spirit had attempted the same tactic on him, but it had never succeeded. This was because Yang Haoran's strength was far greater than the Guardian Spirit's, and he had been constantly on guard against it, consistently suppressing it with his power, which was why the Guardian Spirit had never managed to land a blow.

However, at this very moment, just as he was preparing to inject Spirit Power into Remnant Moon, the Guardian Spirit successfully seized the chance, unleashing its object control power upon him, causing his body to become utterly unresponsive.

This state of being uncontrollable lasted for only a fleeting instant before he broke free from its grip.

Yet, that single moment of delay caused him to miss the optimal timing for injecting Spirit Power into Remnant Moon.

Meanwhile, the Old Town Head seized this opportunity, controlling the Evil Spirit to intensify its attack. With a sudden downward press of the Evil Spirit's hands on the Bone Blade, Remnant Moon immediately emitted crisp cracking sounds as a series of winding fissures appeared on its surface!

In this situation, Yang Haoran knew it was too late to inject Spirit Power into Remnant Moon. The most rational course of action was to immediately dodge, lest he be injured by the Bone Blade's strike.

However, just as he prepared to dodge, he found his body restrained once more, unable to move even an inch. He initially thought he had again fallen victim to the Guardian Spirit's object control power, but then he immediately dismissed that notion.

Because he had just been hit by that Guardian Spirit's move, he had taken precautions, specifically mobilizing a large amount of Spirit Power to protect his body. With the Guardian Spirit's power, it was impossible for it to bind him again under these circumstances.

Aside from that reason, he noticed that the power restraining his physical body didn't seem to be the Evil Spirit's power, as he couldn't sense the presence of Yin Qi.

No sooner had this thought formed in his mind than beams of light suddenly illuminated the ground beneath him. The beams crisscrossed, revealing themselves to be a magic array!
