Chapter 621: Feigning Generosity
Yang Haoran first sealed the wound to prevent further blood loss and damage to his physical body.
However, he neither pulled out the dagger still embedded in his body nor unsealed the pill within him, for he believed that, in this moment, refraining was better than acting.
Remnant Moon had just been dispersed by the young woman. To ensure he could command Remnant Moon to attack at any moment, he thus expended Spirit Power to reform it.
Upon hearing the conversation between Luo Yao and the young woman, Yang Haoran finally understood why her strength was so terrifying. She was a Great Spirit Master, an existence on the same level as an Underworld Official who had opened both their Heaven and Earth Souls. Her power was naturally immense and frightening, at least in the eyes of Underworld Officials like them, who had only opened their Heaven Souls.
He could tell that both Luo Yao and the Great Spirit Master were deeply wary of each other's strength, which was why neither of them dared to make a move at this moment.
"Great Spirit Masters are not non-existent; they merely prefer not to show themselves on normal days. But after tonight, the situation will change. In the future, you dogs of the Underworld Office will frequently encounter Great Spirit Masters. As for how many people you will lose because of it, that's hard to say. " the young woman stated indifferently.
"Our Underworld Office will suffer losses, but do you Spirit Masters believe you will incur none? " Luo Yao asked in a deep voice.
The young woman's brow furrowed slightly, then she let out a cold scoff, continuing to speak indifferently: "Hmph, of course, we will also incur certain losses. When war erupts, no one can avoid it. We have long since prepared for this, but you, I fear, will find it quite sudden."
"Since you have appeared, then tonight ends here. After all, tonight is merely the beginning. From now on, our confrontations will be frequent. As for who will emerge victorious in the end, that will depend on our respective abilities. " the young woman said indifferently.
Seeing the young woman prepare to leave, Huo Laoban's brow furrowed slightly, his eyes gleaming with cold light. Yang Haoran, however, remained as calm as before.
However, neither of them spoke, for in such a setting, neither had the right to speak, much less dare to question Luo Yao.
"Coming as you please, leaving as you please – shouldn't you at least ask for my permission? " Luo Yao asked, a cold sneer surfacing on his face.
"Do you still have the mind to bother with me now? " the young woman asked indifferently.
Luo Yao's expression turned somewhat grim. He said nothing further, nor did he stop the young woman. He watched as she led the surviving Spirit Masters and their Guardian Spirits into the spatial rift, even taking the Spirit Master Idol from the high platform.
Just as the spatial rift was about to heal, two streams of Yin Qi whistled out, targeting Shi Kai and the Emissary of Death from Yunchuan City, who were still suspended on the high platform.
Luo Yao let out a cold snort. Without any visible movement from him, the two streams of Yin Qi were shattered by an unseen force just as they were about to strike the two men.
Gazing at the two suspended figures, Luo Yao's brow furrowed deeply, his mind lost in thought.
Yang Haoran and Huo Laoban dared not speak, standing respectfully behind Luo Yao.
A moment later, Luo Yao turned around and looked at Yang Haoran and Huo Laoban. His gaze lingered noticeably longer on Yang Haoran, as Yang Haoran's injuries appeared far more severe than Huo Laoban's; there was even a dagger still embedded in his body.
"Are either of you gravely injured? " Luo Yao asked.
"Thank you for your concern, Divine Emissary. I am not gravely injured. " Huo Laoban replied.
"I, too, am not gravely injured. Merely a few superficial wounds. " Yang Haoran also replied.
As his words fell, Yang Haoran abruptly pulled out the dagger embedded in his body, then a burst of Spirit Power erupted from his hand, directly shattering the dagger that had nearly claimed his life.
"It's good that you're not severely harmed. First, rescue those two. " Luo Yao nodded, speaking with a grim face.
Yang Haoran and Huo Laoban replied respectfully, then their figures flickered. Yang Haoran hovered in front of the Emissary of Death from Yunchuan City, while Huo Laoban stopped before Shi Kai.
The two carefully rescued the Emissary of Death from Yunchuan City and Shi Kai, brought them back before Luo Yao, and then laid them flat on the ground.
However, both the Emissary of Death from Yunchuan City and Shi Kai were barely clinging to life. If they weren't treated promptly, their physical bodies might not be salvageable.
The Emissary of Death from Yunchuan City appeared to be just over thirty, with a square face that gave an impression of uprightness. Yet, at this moment, his face was ashen, his aura weak, and his breathing barely perceptible.
Yang Haoran hesitated for a moment, then retrieved a small porcelain bottle from his Independent Space, pried open the Emissary of Death from Yunchuan City's mouth, and dropped a single drop of Pharmacist's Medicine inside.
"Whether your physical body survives, that depends on yourself."
Yang Haoran spoke indifferently, then stood up and walked towards Shi Kai, dripping a similar drop of Pharmacist's Medicine into Shi Kai's mouth.
"Does Divine Emissary Huo require a drop of Pharmacist's Medicine to mend your physical injuries? " Yang Haoran asked, a faint smile gracing his face, as he addressed Huo Laoban.
"Pharmacist's Medicine is precious. Divine Emissary Yang need not waste it on me. " Huo Laoban refused Yang Haoran's offer with a smile.
In truth, Huo Laoban's injuries were by no means light, though not as severe as Yang Haoran's. Presently, while Yang Haoran had taken out two drops of Pharmacist's Medicine for the Emissary of Death from Yunchuan City and Shi Kai, Yang Haoran himself hadn't consumed a single drop. In Huo Laoban's view, it was naturally because the Pharmacist's Medicine was too precious for Yang Haoran to use on himself, so how could he possibly bring himself to ask for a drop?
The Pharmacist's Medicine in Yang Haoran's hand was indeed precious, but Yang Haoran hadn't consumed it not because he genuinely begrudged it, but because he was feigning reluctance.
When Huo Laoban refused, Yang Haoran did not insist. He merely smiled faintly, nodded, and then put the porcelain bottle containing the Pharmacist's Medicine back into his Independent Space.
"You're injured to this extent and yet begrudge using a single drop on yourself, while instead using two drops on those two. You are truly very generous."
Luo Yao watched as Yang Haoran put the porcelain bottle back into his Independent Space. His already displeased expression now softened into a faint smile.
"This subordinate's injuries will heal after a period of recuperation; there's no need to waste another drop of Pharmacist's Medicine. Their situation is different; if they aren't treated immediately, they will surely die. However, even though I've given them the Pharmacist's Medicine, I don't know if they'll pull through. " Yang Haoran replied respectfully.
"As you just said, whether they survive depends on themselves. This is not the place for conversation. Quickly clear the battlefield, then we shall immediately depart from here. There are some important matters I need to confirm with you two. " Luo Yao put away the faint smile on his face, his expression turning serious once more.
Although Luo Yao didn't explicitly state it, judging from his expression and reactions, combined with the few words spoken by the Great Spirit Master earlier, both of them knew that something extraordinary had likely occurred.
Neither dared to inquire further. After respectfully replying, they immediately began clearing the battlefield as Luo Yao had instructed. Huo Laoban also summoned the Old Crone and other Spirit Masters from the periphery to assist.
The process of clearing the battlefield was simple, but for Huo Laoban, this simple task proved exceedingly troublesome. This was because the five helpers who had come to assist them had all met a tragic end at the hands of the Sunglasses Man, and all five of these helpers had been invited by him.
Although the five individuals' souls were still intact, how he would explain himself to them once their souls awakened was, in his opinion, no small matter of trouble.
Compared to Huo Laoban, Yang Haoran's heart was quite calm at this moment, for he did not possess Huo Laoban's worries.
With the battlefield cleared, Yang Haoran had collected the souls of several Spirit Masters. Had Luo Yao not appeared, these souls would naturally have belonged to him and Huo Laoban. But since Luo Yao had shown up, these souls would certainly have to be handed over to him for processing. As for whether Luo Yao would take them, or if he would bestow any benefits upon the two of them after taking them, that remained unknown.
Luo Yao tore open space, taking Yang Haoran and the others with him, and simultaneously taking all the corpses from the scene. When they reappeared, they were already at the Death God Temple where Yang Haoran and Huo Laoban had held their discussions during the day.
The Old Crone found a quiet room for the three of them. The trio entered the quiet room, while the Old Crone and the other Night Watchers respectfully guarded outside, awaiting orders.
