Chapter 505: Truly Sorry About That
Spirit Mediums are mortal enemies with the Underworld Office. Underworld Officials operate openly, while Spirit Mediums operate covertly. Thus, it's difficult for Underworld Officials to gather information on Spirit Mediums, but quite easy for Spirit Mediums to gather information on Underworld Officials.
These three Spirit Masters weren't from Lecheng, but from Ancheng. However, Ancheng and Lecheng were neighboring cities, so the three of them had, more or less, heard of Yang Haoran, an Emissary of Death who had taken office at the same time as Xu Meijing.
Yang Haoran wasn't surprised that the woman knew his name; he was well aware that it wasn't difficult for a Spirit Master to gather information on him.
"That's right, I am Yang Haoran. " Yang Haoran nodded at the woman, responding with a smile.
He didn't deny it. The other party clearly knew who he was, so denial would be pointless.
Seeing Yang Haoran admit it, the smile on the woman's face deepened slightly.
"Heh heh, it seems Lecheng is quite peaceful if its Emissary of Death has time to come meddle in Ancheng's affairs."
Yang Haoran's smile remained unchanged. He nodded lightly at the woman again, saying, "Indeed, very peaceful. Every Spirit Medium who dared show their face has been dealt with by me. How could it be anything but peaceful?"
Yang Haoran's words made all three of them feel provoked.
"Heh heh, Lecheng is just a small city, even worse off than Ancheng. Resources there are limited, and there aren't many powerful Spirit Masters. Unlike us in Ancheng, it's always been quite. . . unpeaceful here," the woman said with a smile.
Yang Haoran naturally knew a bit about Ancheng's lack of peace. When Xu Meijing became Ancheng's Emissary of Death, it was precisely because the previous Emissary of Death had met with an accident, allowing Xu Meijing, who had just opened her Heaven Soul, to take over.
If Ancheng had been peaceful, the previous Emissary of Death wouldn't have met with an accident. It was precisely because Ancheng was too chaotic that he lost his life.
Even before Xu Meijing came to Ancheng for her posting, Yang Haoran had gathered from her words that Ancheng was quite tumultuous. However, he never had a concrete idea of just how chaotic it truly was.
Now, however, he was witnessing firsthand just how chaotic Ancheng was. Spirit Masters dared to storm the Death God Temple; this was indeed quite messy. At least in Lecheng, he had never encountered such a situation.
"Actually, truth be told, there aren't many truly capable Spirit Masters in your Lecheng. That's why your Underworld Office can suppress them, and they don't dare openly oppose your Underworld Office. But in our Ancheng, heh heh, it's quite different," the woman continued to smile.
Yang Haoran nodded with a smile, saying, "Heh heh, indeed. In all the years I've been an Emissary of Death, I've never encountered Spirit Masters as powerful as the three of you."
Yang Haoran's words were half-truth, half-lie. He had indeed encountered formidable Spirit Masters before, such as Zhao Hong and her former rival.
Back then, if he and Bai Xue hadn't hidden in the shadows and seized an opportunity, directly confronting Zhao Hong and her opponent head-on would have been quite troublesome given his strength at the time.
Of the three Spirit Masters before him, the weakest, the young man, wasn't far off from the strength of Zhao Hong and her rival back then. However, the power fluctuations emanating from the old man and the woman were stronger than Zhao Hong's had been.
Especially the woman; the power fluctuations radiating from her were far more powerful than Zhao Hong's.
"Heh heh, you never encountered them before because you were lucky. But today, it seems you're not so fortunate," the woman chuckled.
"Is that so? Heh heh, perhaps," Yang Haoran replied with a smile, then his gaze shifted towards Chu Jiu and the other Night Watchers.
While he and the woman conversed, Chu Jiu and the other active Night Watchers had already begun moving the incapacitated or deceased Night Watchers towards a safe area.
Initially, Chu Jiu and the others moved cautiously, constantly wary that the three Spirit Masters might suddenly attack them.
Seeing that none of the three had any intention of stopping them, Chu Jiu and the others sped up. Although they hadn't yet reached a completely safe area, they had created some distance between themselves and Yang Haoran.
However, at that very moment, a scene unfolded that no one had anticipated.
A black hand suddenly materialized above Chu Jiu and the other Night Watchers, then slammed down towards them with crushing force.
This palm strike carried considerable power; if it landed on Chu Jiu and the others, it would undoubtedly crush them to dust.
Chu Jiu and the others' expressions instantly changed drastically. Although they had remained vigilant, facing such a powerful blow still sent their faces twisting in terror, for they knew that with their strength, it was utterly impossible to block this attack.
Even though they knew they couldn't block it, Chu Jiu and the others had no intention of letting the palm strike land unimpeded. They rapidly channeled the Spirit Power within their bodies, preparing to resist.
However, just as they began to channel their Spirit Power, chains materialized out of thin air above their heads, crisscrossing and weaving with lightning speed, instantly forming a large net directly overhead.
In this situation, even if they immediately channeled their Spirit Power, it wouldn't make much difference, as it was simply too late.
However, this suddenly woven net managed to do just that.
No sooner had the net formed than the palm strike descended upon it.
Boom!
With a colossal boom, the net instantly shattered, then dissolved into Yin Qi and vanished. The black hand, however, merely dimmed a few shades, still descending towards Chu Jiu and the others with formidable power.
Although the net appeared just in time, it was unable to withstand such a violent blow from the black great hand, and thus it shattered on impact.
Without the net's obstruction, the black hand, imbued with an aura of destruction, continued its descent.
Before the palm even struck Chu Jiu and the others' bodies, its immense power had already caused a considerable impact. All the surviving Night Watchers felt their qi and blood churn violently within them.
Just as the black hand was about to land on Chu Jiu and the other Night Watchers, a gust of Yin wind suddenly appeared, sweeping their bodies away and sending them outside the black hand's attack range.
Boom!
The palm slammed heavily onto the ground, directly blasting a large crater into the hard earth. A surge of rampant power swept outwards. Yang Haoran waved his hand, neutralizing this chaotic force, but Chu Jiu and the other Night Watchers still coughed up a mouthful of blood as a result, and two of them even lost their lives.
The net that had suddenly appeared was precisely Yang Haoran's Spirit Power condensed into form. Although he hadn't directly attacked the three Spirit Masters, he was extremely wary of them.
Therefore, the moment the black hand appeared, he immediately acted.
However, due to the suddenness of the attack and the fact that he hadn't opened his Heaven Soul at that moment, the net woven from chains had very limited offensive and defensive capabilities, and thus failed to block the black hand.
Yang Haoran was well aware of this. He hadn't expected his chain-woven net to completely block the black great hand. All he wanted was to stall the black great hand for a moment, even just an instant, because that would give him enough time to use other methods to save Chu Jiu and the others.
The net indeed only stalled the black great hand for an instant, and Yang Haoran did employ other means to rescue Chu Jiu and the others from beneath it. However, the aftershock generated when the black great hand struck the ground still inflicted a certain amount of damage on Chu Jiu and the rest, and two of them, due to their severe injuries, could not survive the reverberations.
That palm strike was intended to take the lives of all the Night Watchers present. Only by Yang Haoran's timely intervention was the loss minimized.
Nevertheless, with two Night Watchers dead, Yang Haoran still felt a twinge of regret. His intention had been to save all the surviving Night Watchers, but he had failed to accomplish that.
"Quickly, get them out of here!"
Yang Haoran loudly warned Chu Jiu. Although he didn't know Chu Jiu personally, he could tell that Chu Jiu held the highest status among all the Night Watchers.
"Emissary, be careful!"
No sooner had Yang Haoran's warning fallen than Chu Jiu, her face anxious, started warning him instead.
In truth, Yang Haoran didn't need Chu Jiu's warning; he could naturally sense it. He whirled around, rapidly waving his hands, sending chains to meet the incoming spiritual energy.
The chains collided with the spiritual energy, shattering. The spiritual energy, like a cloud of black smoke, surged towards Yang Haoran. Yang Haoran's body flickered, dodging the attack.
Boom!
The black smoke violently slammed into a building. With a thunderous crash, the structure instantly collapsed, stirring up a massive cloud of dust.
"Who knows why, but I suddenly changed my mind. I think it's better to kill all these Night Watchers. Heh heh, I really am quite sorry about that."
