Chapter 437: Journey to Yang City
Yang Haoran didn't give a direct answer to Bai Xue's question, but Bai Xue already had the answer in her heart.
As Bai Xue put away her Demon Pill, Yang Haoran also chuckled and placed the scale into his independent space.
At Yang Haoran's urging, Bai Xue returned to her room. She needed to use the Demon Pill she had acquired to recover her depleted Demon Power and, within the limited time, advance her strength as much as possible.
After Bai Xue left, only Xiujuan and Yang Haoran remained in the living room.
Yang Haoran also needed to prepare for this mission, so he looked at Xiujuan, planning to give her a few instructions before getting busy with his own affairs. However, before he could speak, Xiujuan spoke first.
"Emissary of Death, may I accompany you on this mission?"
Yang Haoran hadn't expected Xiujuan to proactively make such a request, which surprised him somewhat.
However, despite his surprise, he had no intention of agreeing to her request.
"This trip is definitely fraught with danger, so you shouldn't go," Yang Haoran refused without a second thought.
Yang Haoran glanced around the clean and tidy living room, then focused his gaze on Xiujuan, smiling. "Keeping the house so clean for me is already a great help. At least I don't have to spend time tidying up anymore."
"Those are just small matters, Emissary of Death, you don't need to dwell on them. I heard your conversation clearly just now, and I believe having one more person like me should be somewhat useful," Xiujuan continued.
"If I really brought you along, what about Xiao Kang? Can you rest assured leaving him alone at home? " Yang Haoran asked.
At the mention of Xiao Kang, Xiujuan's expression immediately changed, becoming hesitant.
Seeing this, Yang Haoran smiled and stood up, then said, "You just stay home and take good care of Xiao Kang. This mission is just for Bai Xue and me. Not only will I not bring you, but I won't bring Old Master Wu either. If you truly want to help me, we can talk about it after I figure out a way to significantly increase your strength."
Here, Yang Haoran suddenly remembered something and continued, "Oh, and if you encounter something like today again in the future, remember not to confront them head-on. First, find a way to escape and preserve your life. As for the house, it doesn't matter if it's gone; a house can be rebuilt, but if your soul disperses, then you're truly dead. You've already died once; if you die again, I won't be able to save you. Thankfully, this Demon Hunter wasn't actually here for revenge today; otherwise, by the time I rushed back, I'd only be collecting your corpses."
As his voice faded, Yang Haoran looked with a smile at a corner where Xiao Kang was quietly peeking out. Seeing that Yang Haoran had discovered him, he shyly ran out.
In truth, everyone knew Xiao Kang had been secretly watching from the corner, including the dishevelled man from before who had also sensed his presence. No one had paid him any mind, naturally, so they didn't bother with him.
"Uncle Yang, are you and Sister Bai Xue going out again? New Year's is the day after tomorrow," Xiao Kang asked.
"Didn't you hear it all? If this mission goes smoothly, we should be able to return tomorrow night. If it doesn't, well, that's hard to say," Yang Haoran said with a smile.
"It will definitely go smoothly! I believe in Uncle Yang and Sister Bai Xue's strength," Xiao Kang answered without thinking, his tone full of certainty.
"Don't worry, it will definitely go smoothly. " Yang Haoran didn't want to put any pressure on the child, so he replied with an easygoing expression, as if the matter was a small one to him.
Back in his study, Yang Haoran called Xu Meijing to report his safety and briefly explained tomorrow's operation. To keep Xu Meijing from worrying, he also kept the details simple.
Xu Meijing was her usual self, directly asking if he needed help. Yang Haoran didn't want to trouble her and, as always, declined her kind offer.
Xu Meijing didn't insist but told Yang Haoran in the end that if he needed support, he should remember to contact her in time.
Yang Haoran didn't refuse this point and readily agreed.
After hanging up on Xu Meijing, Yang Haoran prepared to draw some talismans. Although his current strength only allowed him to draw low-grade Yellow Talismans, whose power was very limited, it was still better than nothing. Perhaps they could play a significant role at a critical moment.
His idea was simple: since the talismans he drew weren't of high quality, he had to make up for it in quantity. As long as the number reached a certain level, even low-grade Yellow Talismans could shine brilliantly.
It was like ants; a single ant facing a human could be easily crushed without suspense.
However, if thousands upon thousands of ants gathered together, their power would be completely different, capable of reducing a human to a pile of stark white bones in an extremely short time.
Currently, Yang Haoran had accumulated quite a few low-grade talismans. All of these talismans were made by him. However, since their grade was too low to fetch a good price, he wasn't planning to sell them. Instead, he wanted to make the best use of everything and let these low-grade talismans shine and contribute.
Yang Haoran didn't leave his study for the entire day. He spent the whole day drawing talismans, and he even tried to draw some higher-grade ones, though unfortunately, he didn't succeed. As for the low-grade talismans, he drew quite a lot due to his proficiency.
The appointed time with the dishevelled man arrived as expected. At noon, Old Master Wu returned to the villa with the dishevelled man.
Their return caused Bai Xue to sense a power fluctuation from her room. She stopped absorbing the Demon Pill, sealed it away into her independent space, and stepped out of her room.
Yang Haoran, inside his study, also stopped drawing talismans. He put away the talismans he had drawn and walked out of the study.
In the living room, Yang Haoran saw the dishevelled man. With the help of the Spirit Police and his own recovery methods, the dishevelled man had indeed fully recovered from his injuries.
Looking at the dishevelled man, who had returned to his peak state, an idea couldn't help but form in Yang Haoran's mind.
If he could also have a powerful medical team like the Spirit Police, then he wouldn't have to trouble others for anything in the future. However, achieving this wouldn't be easy; at least for now, he didn't have the resources for it.
Although he temporarily lacked these resources, since the idea had formed, he would definitely work hard to find them. When the time was right, he would establish his own medical team, one that would far surpass the Spirit Police's team.
He temporarily pushed this matter to the back of his mind. After all, what needed to be done now was to complete the transaction with the dishevelled man.
"Are you both ready? " Yang Haoran asked the dishevelled man and Bai Xue.
The dishevelled man nodded, saying nothing, but a hint of impatience he couldn't hide was visible in his eyes.
"I have nothing to prepare," Bai Xue said indifferently, glancing at the dishevelled man.
From her tone, it was evident that she still harbored resentment towards the dishevelled man.
Yang Haoran didn't say much about this, and he understood Bai Xue's attitude towards the dishevelled man. Bai Xue had nearly died at the dishevelled man's hands, who had chased her all the way to the Ancient Tomb. Such deep enmity could not be easily resolved.
If not for Yang Haoran wanting to make a deal, she would absolutely not risk her life to help the dishevelled man. The two would definitely have started fighting upon meeting.
Of course, if Yang Haoran hadn't wanted to take on this business, the dishevelled man would absolutely not be standing here. Yang Haoran would have eliminated him yesterday.
After all, during that battle in the Ancient Tomb, if Yang Haoran hadn't forcibly used the Death God's Law Aspect by consuming a Soul Pill at the end, he and Bai Xue would have died at the dishevelled man's hands. How could he easily let go of such a life-and-death grudge? For he never considered himself a saint who could view such profound grievances lightly.
What the dishevelled man said yesterday was absolutely correct: the battle between them back then was entirely due to differing stances. Since their stances differed, and each side viewed the problem from their own perspective, the other was an enemy. Was there anything wrong with wanting to eliminate one's enemy with full force?
In Yang Haoran's view, there was certainly nothing wrong. In fact, when he first saw the dishevelled man yesterday, he had already harbored murderous intent. The fact that the dishevelled man had escaped earlier was a lingering worry for him; upon seeing him again, there was no reason not to eliminate him.
Not just the dishevelled man, Yang Haoran held the same attitude towards any opponent. In his eyes, opponents had to die, because if the opponent didn't die, he would.
As for how to eliminate an opponent, that depended on the situation. If conditions allowed, he would consider using legitimate and transparent means to minimize any guilt on his conscience.
But if conditions didn't allow, and the opponent was someone he absolutely had to eliminate, then, when necessary, no matter the means, as long as it could kill the opponent, he considered it a good method. He would use it without hesitation, without considering whether his actions were open and aboveboard.
Regardless of what kind of person Yang Haoran was in the past, he was now a ruthless and merciless individual. Once he considered someone an opponent, he would absolutely not show any mercy.
However, Yang Haoran ultimately did not act against the dishevelled man. Instead, he agreed to help him. This change occurred not because he was magnanimous and had let go of his past grievances with the dishevelled man, but because of profit.
Without sufficient profit, he would not only refuse to risk his life with Bai Xue to help the dishevelled man, but he would even directly keep this potential threat here forever.
After confirming that both of them were ready, Yang Haoran gave some instructions to Old Master Wu, then gestured for the dishevelled man to tear open space. The three of them stepped into the spatial rift and vanished from the villa.
