Chapter 395 The Gatekeeper Uncle

According to Yang Haoran's plan, he decided to scout the target's strength alone, while Bai Xue and Luo Dui would remain on standby. If anything unexpected happened, he would notify them immediately.

Both of them possessed the ability to tear through space. As long as he maintained constant contact with them and they knew his location, even if an unforeseen event occurred, they could arrive instantly.

This was Yang Haoran's plan, but Bai Xue was unwilling. She insisted on accompanying him to scout the opponent's strength.

According to Bai Xue, she was worried it would be too dangerous for Yang Haoran to go alone to probe their strength. Having her along would provide a backup.

Yang Haoran, however, was concerned that more people would make them easier to expose, so he was reluctant to bring Bai Xue.

Nevertheless, he ultimately couldn't withstand Bai Xue's relentless pestering and agreed to take her with him to the crematorium.

As the two were about to leave, Xiujuan approached Yang Haoran.

Donning a Skin, Xiujuan now looked no different from a living person. She could do almost everything a living person could, and her daily tasks, apart from taking care of Xiao Kang, included all the household chores.

Although Yang Haoran felt a bit awkward about this, he didn't stop her. After all, the house needed tidying, and he had no time. Bai Xue often had missions and also had to focus on cultivation during her free time. As for Old Master Wu, he had to manage all the affairs of the Lecheng Underworld Division and had even less time for household chores, so this task could only fall to Xiujuan.

“Emissary, what would you like for dinner tonight? ”

It was a little past two in the afternoon, and Xiujuan had come to ask Yang Haoran, wanting to prepare dinner in advance.

“No thanks. Bai Xue and I are going out to handle something right now. Don't worry about dinner for us two. Ask Old Master Wu what he'd like to eat. ” Yang Haoran replied with a smile.

Hearing that Yang Haoran had to go out, Xiujuan didn't ask further.

“Then, Emissary, please be careful. ”

Yang Haoran nodded, then, watched by Xiujuan, he left the villa with Bai Xue.

This time, he didn't choose to tear through space to leave. Instead, he prepared to drive to their destination like an ordinary person.

Since they were going to probe the opponent's strength, it was natural to act like ordinary people to achieve their objective more easily.

“Seal your Demon Power. Don't let a single trace leak out. ”

After getting in the car, Yang Haoran reminded Bai Xue.

“Don't worry, Underworld Official Brother. Whenever I go out now, I seal my own Demon Power. I'm not as ostentatious as I used to be. ”

As her words fell, Bai Xue not only sealed her Demon Power but also took out her mask and put it on.

“Didn't your mask get broken the last time you fought that old man? ” Yang Haoran asked with a chuckle.

“If it broke, I just have Luo Dui get me another one. It's a small matter to him,” Bai Xue said, smiling.

“However, I think it’s better if you don't wear your mask this time we go out. Wearing a mask feels more conspicuous,” Yang Haoran advised.

Normally, Bai Xue only went without her mask at home. After leaving the villa, she habitually put it on, as her appearance was simply too prone to causing trouble.

Hearing Yang Haoran's words, Bai Xue couldn't help but complain, “So, should I wear it or not? ! ”

“Haven't I made myself clear? ” Yang Haoran replied with a smile.

Bai Xue pouted, mumbling to herself as she took off her mask.

“You ask me to do something, and you have so many demands. We don’t even know if we’ll come back alive from this trip, and I’m risking my life for you. Can’t you have a better attitude? ”

Yang Haoran merely chuckled, offering no response. Instead, he went about his own business.

He first forcibly absorbed all the Yin Qi swirling around his body, then sealed the Spirit Power within him. This done, he looked no different from an ordinary person.

Only after completing all this did he drive away from the villa.

The West City Crematorium was not within the city. Instead, it was on a small slope three kilometers west of the city. From Yang Haoran's villa to their destination, it would take approximately half an hour by car.

Half an hour later, Yang Haoran stopped outside the crematorium. He didn't enter but instead made a call to Luo Dui from inside the car.

The signal near the crematorium was very poor. It took several attempts before Yang Haoran finally connected Luo Dui's call.

“Luo Dui, have you found the information? ”

“I've already sent her information to your phone. Check for it. ”

Because the signal was so bad, Luo Dui's voice wasn't particularly clear. It was intermittent and filled with static, but Yang Haoran could generally understand the gist of his words.

After hanging up, Yang Haoran noticed that his phone hadn't received the information Luo Dui had sent. He wasn't anxious, though; instead, he lit a cigarette in the car and waited quietly.

A moment later, his phone chimed, signaling that Yang Haoran had received the information from Luo Dui.

This information was precisely about his current target. The details were thorough. Yang Haoran read through it carefully, then handed the phone to Bai Xue.

“You familiarize yourself with her information first. I'll go in and put on a show. ”

As his words fell, Yang Haoran immediately got out of the car. Seeing this, Bai Xue quickly lowered her voice to warn him.

“Be careful. If anything happens, just yell. I'll hear you even if you don't scream your lungs out. ”

Yang Haoran chuckled awkwardly, ignoring Bai Xue. He closed the car door and walked towards the crematorium.

Before even entering the crematorium, Yang Haoran felt a chill sweep over him. Far from finding this Yin Qi-induced coldness uncomfortable, he felt a sense of familiarity, even kinship.

The gatekeeper was an old uncle, slumped in his chair, looking half-asleep. On the table in front of him sat an extra-large mug filled with strong tea, but even this potent brew seemed unable to ward off his drowsiness.

Yang Haoran thought for a moment, then approached the old uncle's guardhouse and gently tapped on the window glass.

Yang Haoran's movements were light, and the sound of tapping on the window was naturally not loud. Still, the old uncle was startled, his body trembling as he jolted awake.

Seeing a person outside his window, the old uncle's expression soured. His brows furrowed, and his eyes held a hint of resentment; clearly, he was displeased that Yang Haoran had disturbed his sweet dreams.

“What do you want? ” the old uncle asked, his tone not particularly friendly.

Yang Haoran offered a friendly smile, not immediately answering the old uncle. Instead, he took out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, pulled out one, and smilingly handed it to him.

Seeing that Yang Haoran was rather sensible, the old uncle's expression softened. He took the cigarette Yang Haoran offered, habitually checked the brand, and then a faint smile appeared on his face.

“Heh, young man, you're quite wealthy to be smoking such good cigarettes. It truly goes to show you can't judge a book by its cover. This isn't a fake, is it? ”

The old uncle said, chuckling, as he rotated the cigarette, scrutinizing it.

Yang Haoran used to smoke common cigarettes, and that remained true even after he became an Emissary of Death.

However, ever since Old Master Wu moved in with him, he hadn't bought any cigarettes. All his cigarettes were prepared by Old Master Wu, and the ones Old Master Wu prepared for him were all high-grade.

Yang Haoran wasn't particular. Since Old Master Wu had them ready, whether they were bought by Old Master Wu himself or gifted by others, he just smoked them. It saved him the trouble of spending time buying them himself.

Facing the old uncle's skepticism, Yang Haoran's smile didn't waver. He took out a lighter and lit the cigarette for the old uncle.

“Old uncle, have a taste first. ”

The old uncle didn't stand on ceremony. After taking a deep drag, his face showed pure enjoyment.

“Mm, not bad. Very pure, doesn't burn the throat. Has a kick to it. This cigarette truly lives up to its high-grade reputation. I like it very much. ”

Whether the old uncle could tell if it was fake or real, Yang Haoran didn't know, nor did he care to. Seeing the old uncle's look of enjoyment, he took out the same pack of cigarettes he had just offered and placed it on the old uncle's table.

“I came in a bit of a hurry and didn't prepare anything. Since you like this tobacco, old uncle, if you don't mind, just take this to tide you over. ”

The old uncle took the cigarettes, opened the lid, and glanced inside, realizing only two were missing from the entire pack. His smile immediately deepened.

“Heh heh, then I won't stand on ceremony. ” The old uncle closed the cigarette pack, then placed the entire box into the drawer in front of him. After doing all this, he smiled and asked Yang Haoran, “Someone in your family died, didn't they? Do you need this old man to do something for you? ”
