Chapter 374: Reunion with Master Jiang
The plaza's sky was forcibly divided into four distinct regions by a powerful force. These four regions precisely corresponded to the four major continents of the New Beginning Realm: Azure Mountain Continent, Tong Continent, Jun Prefecture, and Jingling Continent.
Within each of these four regions, a high platform materialized out of thin air. Upon each platform, a black hole pulsed into existence. The black holes slowly revolved, constantly emanating an eerie aura.
Concurrently, a large number of Ghost Officials, clad in uniform attire, appeared throughout the crowded plaza. They encircled the entire plaza, preventing any further Underworld Officials from entering.
The plaza was vast, yet the number of Underworld Officials gathered there was truly immense; it was already overflowing with people. Moreover, the numbers continued to swell. If more Underworld Officials were permitted entry, the plaza would only become even more congested.
The sudden appearance of so many Ghost Officials, encircling the plaza, was not to attack the Underworld Officials within. Rather, it was to maintain order at the scene.
Yang Haoran and Xu Meijing were situated in a peripheral area of the plaza. Behind the two of them, a Ghost Official appeared.
With the Ghost Official's sudden appearance behind them, Yang Haoran and Xu Meijing instinctively turned to glance. Upon seeing him, both of them immediately froze.
Not only were the two of them stunned, but even the Ghost Official who had suddenly appeared to maintain order was taken aback.
“Temple Master Jiang! ”
Xu Meijing and Yang Haoran spoke almost simultaneously. Astonishment was etched on both their faces.
“Haoran! Xu Meijing! ”
The Ghost Official's face lit up with pleasant surprise. Their appearance made him immensely happy.
This person was none other than Master Jiang, who had first guided Yang Haoran into the fold.
During the battle at the Ghost Building, Master Jiang, with Yang Haoran's help, managed to preserve his soul. However, his physical body had lost all signs of life. Later, the Guardian Luo Yao appeared, and after appointing Yang Haoran as Lecheng's new Emissary of Death, he took Master Jiang away.
When Luo Yao left back then, he had said he would let Master Jiang become a Ghost Official. After all, Master Jiang had dedicated his entire life to the Underworld Office, to the Death God he worshipped. He had served as a Night Watcher in Lecheng his whole life, indeed making no small contribution to the Underworld Office.
At the time, Yang Haoran didn't dare be a hundred percent certain that Luo Yao would fulfill his promise. However, he believed that given Luo Yao's status, he wouldn't stoop to deceiving such a minor figure as himself. Thus, at that moment, he believed Luo Yao's words eight or nine times out of ten.
From then on, he had never seen Master Jiang again, nor had he received any news of him. Whether Master Jiang had ultimately become an Underworld Official or reincarnated, he didn't know.
He had intended to inquire with Guardian Luo Yao. But important figures like Luo Yao were like dragons whose heads one sees but never their tails — elusive beings not easily met just because one wished to.
Although he was an Emissary of Death, merely one rank below Luo Yao, the Guardian, Luo Yao commanded thousands of Emissaries of Death like himself. And among these thousands of Emissaries of Death, he, as a newcomer, was practically at the bottom in every aspect. How could Luo Yao, as a Guardian, possibly pay him any mind?
After arriving in the Underworld, he had thought about inquiring about Master Jiang. However, the Underworld was not Lecheng; it was a foreign world to him. Here, he had no friends and was completely unfamiliar with the place, making it impossible to inquire about Master Jiang.
Furthermore, the number of Ghost Officials in the Underworld was immense. Finding one Master Jiang among so many Ghost Officials was by no means an easy task.
What he hadn't expected was that, at this very moment, they would reunite in such a manner. This utterly astonished him.
Xu Meijing was equally surprised, though for her it was merely surprise. Back when she was a Lecheng Night Watcher, her relationship with Master Jiang was quite ordinary. It wasn't particularly good, but there were no conflicts either; their relationship was simply like that of regular colleagues.
Yang Haoran was different. In his eyes, Master Jiang was his benefactor. He was the guide who had opened up a whole new world for him. Thus, he had always felt grateful to Master Jiang, and even now, that sentiment had not changed.
“Master Jiang, you truly became a Ghost Official! That's wonderful! But your body. . . ”
Yang Haoran's face was filled with joy, yet Master Jiang's build and appearance were exactly as they used to be. This struck him as rather odd.
“This skin I'm wearing was custom-made for me, fashioned to resemble my appearance when I was alive. That's why I look no different now than I did before. ”
With Master Jiang's explanation, the doubts in Yang Haoran's mind were resolved. He had intended to say a few more words to Master Jiang. However, at that very moment, a deep, resonant voice echoed through the sky above the plaza, reverberating not only across the plaza itself but throughout the entire Underworld.
“All Underworld Officials, please proceed to your respective continental zones above. Prepare to submit your souls. ”
Hearing this, Yang Haoran had no choice but to swallow the words he was about to speak. He still had much to say to Master Jiang, but it seemed now was not the time.
“You two go ahead and prepare to submit your souls. Once this is over, we can find a place to have a proper chat,” Master Jiang said with a smile.
“Alright,” Yang Haoran replied with a smile.
Under Master Jiang's gaze, Yang Haoran and Xu Meijing ascended into the air. They flew towards one of the four major regions above.
Yang Haoran and Xu Meijing belonged to the Jingling Continent, one of the four major continents. Thus, the region they flew to was naturally the Jingling Continent.
At this moment, the scene above the plaza was spectacular. Countless Underworld Officials, dense as sparrows, flew towards the four major regions. Some took flight from the plaza itself, while others soared from outside the plaza towards their respective zones.
For a moment, the air above the entire plaza was filled with continuous rushing sounds. The plaza, which had been incredibly crowded just moments before, now lay surprisingly empty.
Yang Haoran and Xu Meijing both moved at a good speed. However, the other Underworld Officials present were even faster, a disparity caused by the immense difference in power. By the time they halted, a large number of Underworld Officials were already waiting in the Jingling Continent's designated zone.
Looking around, the region was densely packed with Underworld Officials. Yang Haoran roughly estimated that the number of Underworld Officials in their Jingling Continent zone was definitely no less than twenty thousand. And this number continued to grow.
The situation in the other three continental zones was identical. The number of Underworld Officials was no less than that of the Jingling Continent. Outside these zones, large numbers of Underworld Officials were still constantly arriving at their designated areas.
While the number of Underworld Officials in all four continents was vast, it did not lead to congestion. This was because the four forcibly divided regions in the sky were far, far larger than the plaza below.
Yang Haoran and Xu Meijing stood together, their gazes sweeping across the four major regions. Their hearts were both filled with shock.
So many Underworld Officials gathered together; this scene not only delivered a powerful visual impact to the two of them, but also a profound spiritual shock. This was because, within the ranks of Emissaries of Death, they were mere newcomers. This awe-inspiring spectacle was something they were witnessing for the very first time.
It was not just these two newcomers who felt utterly overwhelmed by such a scene. Even many veteran Emissaries of Death, witnessing the sight before them, felt their blood boil with excitement.
For this represented the formidable power of their Underworld Office!
Why did no other organization dare attack the Underworld Office?
Why did other organizations all fear the Underworld Office?
It was precisely because the Underworld Office was strong enough, and its methods tough enough, that it could strike fear into the hearts of all other organizations in this world!
Yang Haoran was not a devout believer. However, not all Underworld Officials were like him.
The vast majority of Underworld Officials were devout believers. And it was precisely because of their profound devotion to their faith that they felt their blood boil with excitement, swelled with immense pride, and were genuinely moved to a sense of glory upon witnessing this scene.
Yang Haoran took a deep breath, allowing his inner emotions to settle. He ceased observing the Underworld Officials present and instead directed his gaze towards the high platform ahead.
Each of the four major regions had such a high platform. However, no one approached the platform, nor did anyone carelessly ascend it.
Yang Haoran did not know what this platform was, nor what its purpose might be. But since no Underworld Official from any of the four continents stepped onto it, he certainly wouldn't be foolish enough to be the bird that takes the lead.
Aside from the high platform, the black hole above it also greatly captured his attention. However, he likewise had no idea what this black hole was used for.
